Airbus said it delivered 793 aircraft and booked 889 net orders; Boeing reported 600 deliveries and 1,173 net orders. The delivery comparison has an important caveat: EUROCONTROL reported 585 Boeing deliveries, not 600, and the available sources do not reconcile the difference. These figures compare annual output and orders—not market share, financial performance, safety, or aircraft quality.
How to read the 2025 comparison
The most useful comparison pairs the same calendar year and the same measurement: deliveries with deliveries, gross orders with gross orders, and net orders with net orders. Airbus published its 2025 figures on January 12, 2026; Boeing released its full-year results on January 27, 2026. EUROCONTROL’s January 23, 2026 overview offers a third-party comparison, but its Boeing delivery count differs from Boeing’s own release.

Who delivered more aircraft in 2025?
Airbus reported 793 commercial aircraft deliveries for 2025, compared with the 600 reported by Boeing. On the companies’ published figures, Airbus delivered 193 more aircraft. EUROCONTROL’s overview puts Boeing deliveries at 585, which would make the difference 208; the available sources do not explain the 15-aircraft discrepancy between EUROCONTROL and Boeing. Keep each figure attributed to its source rather than treating the counts as reconciled.

Deliveries count aircraft handed over during the year. They indicate realized output, but a single year’s total does not by itself establish market share, profitability, or how many aircraft either manufacturer can deliver in future years.
Who booked more orders—and why the basis matters
On a net-to-net basis, Boeing reported 1,173 Commercial Airplanes net orders and Airbus reported 889 net orders in 2025. Boeing’s reported net total was higher by 284. Airbus also reported 1,000 gross orders, but gross and net orders are not interchangeable: gross counts orders before cancellations and other adjustments, while net reflects those adjustments.

For a gross-to-gross comparison, EUROCONTROL reports 1,175 gross Boeing orders and Airbus reports 1,000 gross orders. The Boeing gross figure is EUROCONTROL’s, not the figure in Boeing’s results release cited above. The 1,175 gross and 1,173 net Boeing figures come from different reported bases and sources; do not use the small numerical difference to infer the number of cancellations without a source reconciliation.

Airbus said its year-end 2025 backlog reached 8,754 commercial aircraft. Boeing’s full-year results release said it had more than 6,100 commercial airplanes in backlog. These are aircraft counts. Separately, Boeing’s 2025 Form 10-K reported a Boeing Commercial Airplanes backlog value of $567.290 billion as of December 31, 2025. That dollar figure is not directly comparable with Airbus’s unit count and should not be read as the price of aircraft delivered or revenue already earned.

- Ideal for children ages 3 and up, encouraging both learning and fun through hands-on play.
- Great for space and aviation enthusiasts, helping to foster an interest in science and exploration.
Backlog represents orders awaiting delivery, not a guaranteed schedule. Timing can shift with production, certification, customer decisions, and other conditions; a larger count alone does not prove superior execution or financial results.
Aircraft mix: totals conceal different program contributions
Airbus reported 607 A320 Family deliveries in 2025. EUROCONTROL reports that narrow-body aircraft dominated both manufacturers’ deliveries and that Boeing delivered 447 737 MAX aircraft. These family figures help explain the importance of single-aisle programs to annual totals, but they are not a like-for-like comparison of every aircraft family or segment.

A company-wide delivery count combines different aircraft sizes and programs. Without a full, comparable segment breakdown, the totals cannot establish which manufacturer leads in every category or which aircraft is preferable for a particular airline.
Execution and program schedules qualify the comparison
Boeing’s 2025 Form 10-K describes recovery of 737 production during 2025, continued certification work on the 737-7 and 737-10, and a planned first 777-9 delivery in 2027. These are company-reported program conditions and plans, not guaranteed outcomes. Production stability, certification progress, and delivery schedules matter because orders and backlog translate into completed deliveries only over time.

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg characterized the company’s progress this way: “We made significant progress on our recovery in 2025 and have set the foundation to keep our momentum going in the year ahead,” according to Boeing’s results release. This is Boeing’s own assessment, not an independent evaluation of its recovery.

Boeing and Airbus remain the central competitors in the comparison of large commercial-aircraft manufacturers reflected in these figures. However, Airbus’s 2024 annual report says the historical period when the mainline commercial-aircraft market was primarily a Boeing-Airbus duopoly has ended as C919 deliveries increase. That is Airbus’s characterization of market structure; it does not mean the C919 has displaced either maker in current deliveries.
The evidence here supports a focused Boeing-versus-Airbus comparison, not a complete market-share calculation across manufacturers. Order and delivery totals are useful indicators, but they do not alone establish the position of every competitor or the performance of each aircraft program.

What the 2025 figures establish—and what they do not
- Deliveries: Airbus reported more 2025 commercial deliveries than Boeing. Boeing’s reported total differs from EUROCONTROL’s, and that difference is unresolved in these sources.
- Orders: Boeing reported more net orders than Airbus; a gross-order comparison is available using Airbus’s company figure and EUROCONTROL’s Boeing figure.
- Backlog: Airbus reported more aircraft by unit count than Boeing’s stated minimum, while Boeing separately disclosed backlog value. Counts and dollars answer different questions.
- Competitive judgment: These figures do not establish which manufacturer is safer, more profitable, or makes the better aircraft, nor do they guarantee future production or delivery performance.
Sources for company figures: Airbus’s January 2026 release, Boeing’s January 2026 results release, and Boeing’s 2025 Form 10-K filed with the SEC. Market-structure context: Airbus’s 2024 annual report.
