St. Louis Blues defenseman Brandon Carlo was ejected after a knee-on-knee collision with Dallas Stars forward Roope Hintz on Oct. 2, 2026. Officials assessed Carlo a five-minute major for kneeing and a game misconduct. A Reddit discussion afterward showed fans disagreeing over whether Hintz’s movement left Carlo little time to react or whether the contact warranted the major—but the available reports do not settle that debate.

The reporting establishes what officials called during the game; it does not include an attributable explanation from an official or a detailed rules analysis of the video. It therefore does not establish whether the hit was intentional or resolve whether the call was technically correct.
Why did fans call it both “soft” and “suspension worthy”?
Comments in a postgame Reddit discussion reflected competing interpretations, not a poll of fans or an official ruling. Some commenters argued that Hintz changed direction and that Carlo had limited time to adjust. Others viewed the knee contact as serious enough to merit a major penalty.
