Bluehost Malware Protection is a security service for websites hosted on Bluehost. Bluehost describes it as scanning for malware and suspicious activity, with automatic threat removal and other security features. What happens after a detection—and whether a person will clean it up—depends on the service plan and the site’s eligibility. SiteLock Security, a separate legacy service, is no longer available through Bluehost.

What is Bluehost Malware Protection?

Bluehost describes Malware Protection as a hosted website security service that scans for malware and suspicious activity and can automatically remove threats. Its listed features include blacklist monitoring, a trust seal, ThreatShield Smart WAF, protections for WordPress login and database attack vectors, reporting, and dedicated support. These are Bluehost’s descriptions of the service, not an independent assessment of its effectiveness. The domain or website must be hosted on Bluehost to activate it. Bluehost Malware Protection FAQ

Which Malware Protection options does Bluehost offer?

Bluehost’s purchase guide describes three categories. It does not provide a current price schedule, renewal prices, or a detailed comparison of contractual limits or performance. Check the Bluehost portal and checkout terms for current pricing and terms rather than relying on older SiteLock information. Bluehost’s purchase guide

Option How Bluehost describes it
Malware Scan and Clean Regular scanning to detect malware and prompt cleanup.
AI Malware Defense AI-based detection and blocking of threats in real time.
Bluehost Complete Security Includes features from the other two offerings, plus additional security tools. Bluehost also associates this plan with expert cleanup when automated remediation cannot resolve an issue.

Why am I seeing a malware warning on my website?

Bluehost says its security system may display a warning banner after detecting suspicious or potentially malicious activity. Review the scan results and alerts in the protection dashboard to see what was detected. A warning is a reason to investigate the reported files and activity; it is not, by itself, a detailed diagnosis of how the site was compromised. Bluehost Malware Protection FAQ

What happens if automatic malware removal cannot fix the issue?

Bluehost says expert cleanup is included for Complete Security customers when automated remediation cannot resolve an issue. Customers on other plan levels may be offered manual cleanup for an additional charge. Full restoration is a separate fee-based action, so confirm the scope and cost with Bluehost before authorizing it. Bluehost Malware Protection FAQ

#1 Best Overall

Eligibility limits apply to Bluehost’s stated manual intervention. The site must be online and reachable, its DNS must resolve to Bluehost, and it must run WordPress. Bluehost lists plugin and theme upgrades, non-WordPress or custom applications, and delisting from Google or other blocklists as exclusions. Bluehost Malware Protection Awareness

Does Bluehost support remove malware for every customer?

No. Bluehost’s general malware-removal guidance says support does not directly remove website malware in the general case, although it may scan the site and provide a report identifying infected files. That report is not a promise of hands-on cleanup for every account. Plan-specific automatic removal and expert cleanup are separate services, subject to their terms and eligibility. What should I do after a scan finds infected files?

  1. Open the protection dashboard. Review the scan results and alerts, including any files marked malicious, suspicious, or under review.
  2. Check the plan’s available remediation. Determine whether automatic removal is available and whether your plan includes expert cleanup if automation fails.
  3. Confirm eligibility before requesting manual intervention. Bluehost’s stated manual-cleanup requirements include an online, reachable WordPress site with DNS resolving to Bluehost.
  4. Clarify the requested work and any charge. Plugin or theme upgrades and blocklist delisting are outside the stated cleanup scope; full restoration may also incur a separate fee.

Bluehost’s SiteLock post-malware guide discusses scan queues and cleanup steps for that workflow. Its instructions may be relevant to existing SiteLock customers, but do not mean SiteLock is available for new purchase. Bluehost’s SiteLock post-malware cleanup steps

Is SiteLock Security still available through Bluehost?

No. In a notice updated September 29, 2026, Bluehost said SiteLock Security is no longer available as a service and existing plans will not automatically renew at their next renewal date. The date is specific to each account: check billing history and upcoming renewals in your Bluehost account to find yours. Do not assume a particular end date from the notice. Bluehost points customers toward newer hosting plans with hosting-wide malware protection or a third-party security solution. Bluehost’s SiteLock service-change notice

Some Bluehost help pages still describe SiteLock plans, scans, or cleanup. The newer discontinuation notice controls current availability; legacy instructions should not be read as an invitation to buy SiteLock through Bluehost. Bluehost’s SiteLock service-change notice

How should I choose a protection route?

What to check Why it matters
Hosting Bluehost Malware Protection requires Bluehost hosting; a third-party service may have different requirements.
Automated versus expert cleanup Scanning and automated removal are not the same as human intervention. Check whether your plan includes expert cleanup or whether manual cleanup may cost extra.
Site eligibility and cleanup scope Bluehost’s stated manual intervention is limited to qualifying WordPress sites that are reachable and resolve to Bluehost DNS, with published exclusions.
Availability and renewal SiteLock is no longer available through Bluehost, and existing plans do not auto-renew. Verify your account’s renewal details.
Price and terms The reviewed Bluehost purchase information does not establish current prices or renewal costs; confirm them in the portal and at checkout.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
