Bluehost Can Host Django on VPS—If You Can Manage the Server

Bluehost offers a documented Django path on VPS and Dedicated servers—not a managed Django service. Here’s what the setup involves, what the published plans include, and what the review evidence can and cannot establish.

Bluehost documents Django deployment on VPS and Dedicated servers, but the evidence does not establish shared hosting as a generally supported Django platform or Bluehost as a managed Django service. Choose a Bluehost VPS if you want root access and allocated server resources and can handle server setup and maintenance; look at a managed application platform if you want less infrastructure work.

What Bluehost’s Django support actually covers

Bluehost’s VPS and Dedicated third-party applications guidance explicitly names Python and Django and points to cPanel’s Python WSGI application instructions. That is evidence of a documented deployment route on VPS and Dedicated hosting—not a promise that Bluehost will install, configure, or manage a Django application for you.

The same guidance says third-party applications are generally supported as-is and that Bluehost engineers do not handle their installation, configuration, and management on a self-managed server. The scope matters: a server that can run Django is not the same thing as a managed Django runtime.

Bluehost’s VPS overview, updated June 30, 2026, contrasts shared hosting with allocated VPS resources. It states: “On Shared hosting, your website uses resources that are distributed among many customers.” The reviewed sources do not establish shared hosting as a generally supported option for deploying Django.

What a Django deployment would involve

Bluehost’s Django VPS guide describes a conventional self-managed stack: Python and pip, Django, a virtual environment, a database, Gunicorn to run the application, Nginx in front, and SSL for secure connections. It names PostgreSQL and MySQL as database choices.

This is vendor guidance, not a verified deployment test. Expect to configure and maintain the components yourself, and confirm that the operating system and instructions you plan to use are currently supported before building around them.

Bluehost VPS plans: published allocations

Bluehost’s plan table, updated June 30, 2026, lists the following specifications. They are published resource allocations, not independent benchmarks or evidence of how a particular Django app will perform.

Plan CPU Memory Storage
Standard NVMe 4 2 AMD EPYC cores 4 GB DDR5 100 GB NVMe
Enhanced NVMe 8 4 AMD EPYC cores 8 GB DDR5 200 GB NVMe
Ultimate NVMe 16 8 AMD EPYC cores 16 GB DDR5 450 GB NVMe

All three plans list unmetered bandwidth, one dedicated IP, and root access; cPanel/WHM is optional. The same table lists Alma 9, Ubuntu 22.04, and Debian 8, 9, and 10 as operating-system options. Verify current OS support and plan details with Bluehost before committing, particularly if your app depends on a specific runtime or package version.

  • 16TB (4 x 4TB) 7.2K 6Gb/s SATA 3.5" HDDs in RAID
  • Hard drives and memory upgrades included separately NOT installed, installation required.

The cited plan information does not establish a stable monthly price. Check the current checkout for your region and term, and compare the introductory rate with renewal pricing and the cost of anything you need in addition, such as backups or database services.

How much server work remains yours

Root access gives you control, but it also makes you responsible for important operations. Bluehost says VPS customers manage their own backups and update most installed software; its overview says automatic backups are no longer provided on NVMe VPS. The User Agreement also assigns VPS and Dedicated customers responsibility for backing up their content.

Do not assume standard hosting support will deploy or debug your Django app. Under the User Agreement’s support description for changes made with super-user access, Bluehost lists baseline OS and control-panel restoration and basic diagnostics, while saying it will not configure DNS, firewalls, or web servers. Bluehost describes self-managed VPS as requiring technical knowledge, especially Linux administration. Its chat and phone support availability does not amount to application-level Django administration.

  • Consider VPS if you can configure the runtime and web server, manage updates and backups, and troubleshoot the host as well as the application.
  • Consider managed hosting if you want the provider to take on more of the deployment and ongoing infrastructure work; confirm exactly what is included for databases, background jobs, scaling, and backups.

How to compare a VPS with managed Django hosting

Compare operational responsibility, not just the advertised compute or entry price. A provider-authored Fly.io comparison of Django hosting options, published September 28, 2026, names Fly.io, Render, Railway, Heroku, DigitalOcean App Platform, and PythonAnywhere as options. It is useful as category context, not neutral consensus; verify each provider’s current capabilities and pricing directly.

  • Operations: Who installs and updates the runtime, configures the web server, and handles TLS?
  • Database and background work: Who provisions, backs up, monitors, and scales the database, workers, and scheduled jobs?
  • Control: Do you need root-level infrastructure control, or are provider-managed abstractions a better fit?
  • Resources and cost: Compare the published compute and usage model, then calculate the total for the same region, term, database, backups, support, and expected traffic. Do not compare a VPS introductory price with an all-in managed-platform bill.

What expert and user evidence supports

TechRadar’s Bluehost VPS review, published February 26, 2026, says it evaluated plans, pricing, infrastructure, features, and benchmark performance. It provides third-party review context for Bluehost VPS generally, but the evidence available here gives no specific benchmark figures and does not establish that TechRadar tested a Django deployment. TechRadar also discloses that purchases through its links may earn an affiliate commission.

For user sentiment, the available example is a single Django community discussion asking whether there is a simple way to host Django and PostgreSQL without turning it into a DevOps project. It illustrates the trade-off between convenience and control; it is not a representative sample of Bluehost customers or verified Bluehost Django users. There is not enough evidence here to produce a meaningful Bluehost user rating.

Refund terms to check before signing up

Bluehost’s User Agreement describes a conditional 30-day money-back window for eligible shared, VPS, and Dedicated hosting when canceled through support within the first 30 days of the initial term. The terms include exclusions and payment conditions; listed exclusions include monthly-term products, domain registration fees, and other add-ons. Read the current agreement to confirm eligibility for the exact service and payment you plan to buy.
