Blue Origin’s TeraWave: What We Know About Its Leader, Network and Launch Plans

Blue Origin’s TeraWave is a planned enterprise, data center and government satellite network. Its leader is identified as Lindo St. Angel, but the reported evidence does not verify a Ring executive connection.

Blue Origin says its planned TeraWave satellite network will serve enterprise, data center and government customers, with deployment due to begin in Q4 2027. The headline’s description of a leader as an “Amazon Ring exec” is not verified by the available reporting: Via Satellite identifies Lindo St. Angel as TeraWave’s leader and reports his Amazon experience at Lab126, but does not connect him to Ring.

Who is leading Blue Origin’s TeraWave?

Via Satellite identifies Lindo St. Angel as TeraWave’s leader and describes his Amazon career as 15 years, including work as vice president of hardware at Amazon Lab126, where he contributed to consumer devices. Its report does not say that he was a Ring executive. The connection implied by the headline therefore remains unconfirmed; it should not be treated as an established part of his background. What is TeraWave?

TeraWave is Blue Origin’s announced plan for a satellite communications network aimed at organizations, not a currently available consumer internet service. Blue Origin says it is intended to provide point-to-point connectivity and enterprise-grade internet access, adding a space-based option to existing network infrastructure. The company highlights customers that need high capacity, symmetrical upload and download, redundancy, or connectivity in places where diverse fiber routes are costly, impractical or slow to build. Blue Origin’s announcement and its TeraWave service page describe those goals.

Blue Origin says the network is designed to scale or relocate service as customers’ needs change and to provide redundancy alongside other infrastructure. Those are stated capabilities and goals, not independently measured results from a deployed service. As the company put it in its announcement, “TeraWave addresses the unmet needs of customers who are seeking higher throughput, symmetrical upload/download speeds, more redundancy, and rapid scalability.”

How is the planned network designed?

Blue Origin’s January 2026 announcement describes a 5,408-satellite system combining low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO) spacecraft. It pairs radio-frequency links in LEO with optical links in MEO:

Planned element Blue Origin’s announced figure Role or qualification
LEO satellites 5,280 Q/V-band radio-frequency connections
MEO satellites 128 Optical links
Total constellation 5,408 Blue Origin’s planned combined system
LEO link capacity Up to 144 Gbps Company-stated figure for planned Q/V-band links to distributed customers
MEO link capacity Up to 6 Tbps Company-stated figure for planned optical links

These are Blue Origin’s specifications for a planned system, announced in 2026. They are not independently verified customer throughput, and they do not establish the speed an individual customer would receive. Actual service performance and availability will depend on the network as deployed and the service offered.

When will TeraWave launch?

Blue Origin says deployment is scheduled to begin in Q4 2027. That is a planned deployment start, not confirmation that service will be available to customers everywhere—or at all—on that date. The company’s service page invites business inquiries, but the available information does not establish current service availability, pricing, geographic eligibility, or retail equipment sales. How does TeraWave differ from Amazon Leo?

Amazon Leo is a separate Amazon satellite network. Amazon describes Leo as a LEO constellation of more than 3,000 satellites connected through optical links and ground gateway infrastructure. Its customer antennas are named Leo Nano, Leo Pro and Leo Ultra, and Amazon says full-scale deployment began in April 2025. Those details describe Amazon’s network; its antennas are not TeraWave equipment. Amazon’s Leo overview

Comparison Blue Origin TeraWave Amazon Leo
Announced audience Enterprise, data center and government customers Amazon describes a satellite network and customer antennas; the cited overview does not specify an equivalent target-customer list
Architecture Planned LEO and MEO system: 5,280 LEO satellites with Q/V-band links and 128 MEO satellites with optical links More than 3,000 LEO satellites, optical links and ground gateway infrastructure
Published capacity figures Blue Origin says planned links could provide up to 144 Gbps in LEO and up to 6 Tbps in MEO The cited Amazon overview does not provide a comparable capacity figure
Deployment timing Blue Origin says deployment will begin in Q4 2027 Amazon says full-scale deployment began in April 2025
Named customer antennas The reviewed Blue Origin information does not identify a retail antenna model Leo Nano, Leo Pro and Leo Ultra

The networks may compete for some enterprise customers, as Via Satellite reports, but their announced plans do not establish identical customers, prices, coverage, performance or availability. The specifications above are company descriptions of different systems, not results from a head-to-head test. TeraWave’s proposed combination of LEO and MEO orbits is a clear architectural distinction in Blue Origin’s announcement; it does not by itself prove that one service will be faster or more reliable for a particular organization.

What organizations should take from the announcement

TeraWave is a planned business connectivity network with a substantial announced constellation and ambitious link-capacity figures. For organizations evaluating future options, the practical questions remain whether and where the service will be offered, what it will cost, what customer equipment it will require, and what performance and resilience it can demonstrate in operation. Blue Origin’s announcement provides planned architecture and a deployment target, not those customer-specific answers.
