On macOS 26, block someone from Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Blocked Contacts: click Add, choose the person, scroll down, then click Block Contact. To block directly from a call or conversation, you can also use FaceTime or Messages. Apple’s blocking tools can apply across its listed apps and devices signed in to the same Apple Account.

In FaceTime, choose FaceTime > Settings > Blocked, select the blocked number or email address, and click Remove. What blocking does—and does not do
- It can apply across Apple devices: Apple says a person blocked on one device is blocked on all Apple devices signed in to the same Apple Account.
- It does not remove you from a group conversation: You will not see the blocked person’s messages in the group, but they can still see yours. Apple explains group-conversation behavior
- A person may have multiple contact details: If calls or messages from a number or address still get through, add that specific number or email address to the blocked list if it is not already covered by the contact information you blocked. Apple cautions that a person can have more than one contact detail. Apple’s guidance on blocking contact details
If the settings names do not match
Check which macOS version your Mac is running. Apple’s current instructions use the central Blocked Contacts panel in macOS 26; macOS 15 and earlier use separate FaceTime and Messages settings. In older versions, the labels may say Preferences instead of Settings. Apple’s instructions by macOS version
