Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWhen a Blizzard game download stays on “Initializing,” the Battle.net launcher is showing a status—not necessarily a failed download. Blizzard treats this state separately from “Updating Battle.net Agent,” slow downloads, and failed-download errors, so fixes for those issues are useful first checks, not a guaranteed solution for Initializing.
What “Initializing” means—and what it does not
“Initializing” is a Battle.net launcher status. A download paused at that label is not automatically the same problem as a download stuck at “Updating Battle.net Agent” or one that displays a failed-download error. Blizzard lists these as distinct support topics: slow downloads, downloads stuck while updating the Battle.net Agent, and failed downloads.

The available guidance does not establish a definitive cause or a symptom-specific fix for an Initializing status. Start by checking whether the launcher is genuinely making no progress, then try low-risk troubleshooting that Blizzard also surfaces for related download and Agent issues.
Check whether the download has stopped progressing
- Note how long the launcher has shown “Initializing” and whether the displayed progress or download rate changes. There is no established wait-time threshold for this particular status.
- Check whether other downloads or online services work on the same connection.
- Look for an error code or a change in the status text. An error code or “Updating Battle.net Agent” points to a different troubleshooting path than an unchanged Initializing label.
Try low-risk troubleshooting first
Restart Battle.net, then the computer
Close and reopen the Battle.net launcher. If that does not change the status, restart the computer and check the download again. Blizzard includes restart guidance for related Agent problems; this is a reasonable first check, not a fix Blizzard guarantees for Initializing. See its download troubleshooting.

Check connection stability
If you are using Wi-Fi, check whether the connection is stable and whether other downloads are affected. Testing a more stable connection or optimizing the existing one may help distinguish a connection issue from a launcher issue. Blizzard lists wireless-connection checks among its guidance for related download and Agent problems (Agent troubleshooting; slow-download troubleshooting). These symptoms alone do not establish that you need new networking hardware.
Close conflicting applications and check security settings
Close other applications that may be competing for network or system resources. Check your security software’s settings to make sure Blizzard applications are allowed. Do not turn off protection as a default troubleshooting step. Blizzard’s related download guidance includes closing other applications and allowing Blizzard applications through security software (download troubleshooting; slow-download troubleshooting).

Use file deletion or reinstall options cautiously
More disruptive recovery steps, such as rebuilding launcher files or reinstalling Battle.net, are better left until the simpler checks have failed. Blizzard warns that deleting Battle.net folders can make the app forget game installation locations. If you consider that route, first note the paths where your games are installed so you can locate them again if they disappear from the launcher. See Blizzard’s related download troubleshooting.
The surfaced Agent guidance is on Blizzard’s French support site, which warns that the article is machine translated and may contain errors. Treat its suggestions as general guidance for a related Agent problem, not as a precise procedure for an Initializing status: Stuck at Updating Battle.net Agent.

When to contact Blizzard Support
If the status remains unchanged after the low-risk checks, contact Blizzard Support rather than assuming the cause or buying hardware or repair software. Include the game, your operating system, the exact status shown, how long it has remained there, any error code, and the steps you have tried. That information helps distinguish an Initializing status from an Agent update or failed download. The exact support contact workflow is not established here.
