Under the intended flow, neither participant sees the other’s individual selections by default; a detected incompatibility’s topic is shown only after both click to reveal. That mutual-reveal step is a consent feature: it gives both people a say in whether the sensitive topic is named in the interface.

It is not a guarantee against a participant deliberately modifying their own browser. The creator describes the threat model as “semi-honest” and warns that a technically sophisticated user who changes their browser runtime could bypass the mutual-reveal gate or expand their input set to infer answers. The author says an 80-item server payload cap is intended to limit full-dictionary scraping, but that is a mitigation claim, not proof that inference is impossible. The creator explicitly treats partner integrity as a social constraint rather than a mathematically perfect zero-knowledge guarantee.

Is BlindFlag a real compatibility test?
It is better understood as a structured conversation prompt than as a validated test. A matching dealbreaker can identify something worth discussing, but it does not establish whether a couple is compatible overall, whether the relationship should continue, or how either person will behave. The meaning of a preference depends on context, priorities, and the people involved.

In a U.S. sample of 5,541 single adults, using data collected in 2011 for the Singles in America study, long-term relationship dealbreakers included disheveled or unclean appearance (67%), laziness (66%), and being too needy (63%). Those percentages describe that sample and those measures; they are not universal rates or a recommendation for any particular couple. In a separate study of 92 undergraduates, participants listed a mean of 4.85 dealbreakers for long-term relationships and 3.08 for short-term relationships. Why relationship goals matter when choosing prompts
The same trait or circumstance may matter differently to people seeking a committed long-term partnership than to people approaching dating with another goal. The published study reports differences across relationship contexts, and its U.S. sample includes issues such as distance, children, lifestyle, and sexual compatibility alongside personal traits. Its findings should not be treated as a checklist that fits every culture, orientation, or relationship.
Before answering, each person can clarify what they mean by a dealbreaker and which relationship context they have in mind. Topics such as anger or abuse, substance use, existing partners, trust, health, or lifestyle can carry very different meanings and stakes. A useful conversation asks what a selection means to the person who chose it, rather than assuming the label explains their reasons.
