Select the mesh you intend to print
Work on the object or selection you plan to export. The toolbox can export selected geometry, so confirm the selection before relying on it as the final print model.

Run geometry checks
Use the toolbox checks to look for potential issues such as holes and non-manifold geometry. A watertight mesh has a surface that is closed everywhere. An edge connected to only one face indicates a hole; non-manifold edges can make a mesh unsuitable for reliable slicing. Blender’s 3D Print Toolbox manual explains these checks and the general mesh-to-slicer workflow.

Inspect flagged geometry before repairing it
Use the reported problem areas to guide inspection. The toolbox includes Make Manifold, but an automated repair is not proof that the resulting shape matches your design or is printable in every respect. Review the repaired mesh and run checks again rather than treating a cleanup action as a guarantee.

Apply only the preparation tools the object needs
Hollowing and consistent thickness are useful for different model requirements; face alignment helps orient a model to the print bed; scaling can fit a boundary or target volume. These operations change different aspects of the model, so choose them deliberately and verify the result instead of applying every tool by default.

Export the selection
Export the prepared geometry in a format accepted by your next step. The extension lists STL, PLY, and OBJ export. Blender Extensions says v1.4.0 added an Export Units option intended to ensure correct unit scale. Check units and scale in the export settings and again after import to the slicer.

Validate it in a slicer
A slicer converts the mesh into paths a printer can execute. Open the exported file in your slicer, inspect the sliced preview, and confirm the model’s scale and orientation there. Exporting successfully from Blender does not establish that the sliced result is ready to print.
Check export behavior in Blender 5.2
The 3D Print Toolbox v1.4.1 notes call out export behavior in Blender 5.2. The listing says STL export defaults to render settings and describes a reversion to viewport settings; it separately warns that PLY export uses render settings, so modifier render options and object render visibility may affect the exported PLY. If you use Blender 5.2, verify the relevant settings for the format you choose and inspect the exported file in your slicer. See the version history for the maintainers’ dated notes.

Installing the extension and understanding its permissions
Get 3D Print Toolbox from the Blender Extensions listing. It is listed under GPL-3.0-or-later and requests file permission for exporting STL, PLY, and OBJ. The permission description is tied to those export functions; it should not be read as evidence of broader file access than the listing states.
Is this the right Blender add-on?
The title does not name an add-on, and 3D Print Toolbox is the closest fit when the task is checking mesh geometry, fixing manifold issues, adjusting thickness or orientation, scaling, and exporting. A separate extension, Print Prep, describes a different focus: preparing and rendering print objects, including tools aimed at FDM multicolor workflows such as cutting and keying objects, layer-line shaders, vertex-color painting, printer placement, and an animated printer rig. Its listing states compatibility with Blender 5.1.1 and newer. These descriptions distinguish their intended use; they do not establish which add-on performs better.
