What the Blackview BV8900 Pro actually is
Blackview announced the BV8900 Pro on December 4, 2023. Some Blackview pages and regional listings shorten the name to BV8900, so camera specifications, accessories and regional network support should be checked against the exact listing and model number. The launch announcement describes an upgraded rugged phone with UWB positioning, ArcSoft 4.0 image processing, a 10,000mAh battery, Android 13 with DokeOS 3.1, 256GB storage and integrated FLIR thermal imaging. Blackview’s launch announcement is the clearest source for the Pro branding.
It is a 4G/LTE device, not a 5G phone. That makes it most relevant to maintenance workers, electricians, mechanics, HVAC technicians, farmers, outdoor users and anyone who values endurance and a built-in heat camera more than pocketability or modern software.

Thermal imaging: useful, but limited
The integrated FLIR Lepton camera is the BV8900 Pro’s main differentiator. Blackview lists 80×60 thermal resolution, a 27.5-degree horizontal field of view, sensitivity above 75mK NEdT, an approximate scene range of −10°C to 140°C, nine colour palettes and 4× digital space zoom. Those specifications appear on the official product page.
Good uses
- Finding unusually warm electrical components during a preliminary check.
- Spotting HVAC, plumbing and insulation temperature differences.
- Checking bearings, motors and machinery for heat anomalies.
- Comparing exposed surfaces outdoors or locating warm objects in darkness.
What it cannot do
- It does not see through walls; it measures infrared radiation from visible surfaces.
- An 80×60 image is suitable for broad patterns, but small or distant targets may occupy too few pixels.
- Temperature readings are estimates affected by emissivity, reflections, distance, wind, humidity and material.
- Reflective metal can produce misleading values, so a hot colour does not prove the cause of a fault.
The normal camera’s night mode is not the same as infrared night vision. The thermal sensor may also require a dedicated application. Owners have reported confusion about FLIR Lite, missing controls and inconsistent thermal-app access in discussions such as this thermal issue thread and this BV8900 FLIR discussion. These are individual reports, not a measured defect rate.
Do not confuse this sensor with the newer FLIR Lepton 3.5 system in the Blackview BL9000 Pro, which offers 160×120 resolution, broader capabilities and MyFLIR Pro support.

Battery life versus size
The advertised 10,000mAh capacity is excellent for multi-day field work, camping, travel and emergency backup. Blackview’s launch material claims up to 45.5 days of standby under its own test conditions; that is not an everyday-use prediction. Navigation, hotspot use, thermal scanning, gaming, mobile data and high brightness can reduce runtime sharply.

It is closer to carrying a compact battery pack than a conventional phone. The 33W charging rate is reasonable for such a large battery, but newer rugged phones advertise 55W to 120W charging.
Performance and Android software
The Helio P90 handles calls, messaging, maps, email, streaming, browsing and ordinary work applications. It is not a strong choice for demanding games, intensive image processing or buyers who want several years of headroom. UL’s database lists a 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme score of 1,131 for this model; the figures are aggregated user submissions rather than a controlled laboratory review. See the UL listing.

Before buying, confirm whether your banking, enterprise, authentication and digital-rights apps still support the installed software, and ask the seller how thermal-camera applications are restored after a reset or update.
Cameras and everyday documentation
The launch announcement specifies a 64MP Samsung ISOCELL GW3 main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide/ultra-macro camera and a 16MP front camera. Blackview’s product page instead lists a 5MP secondary rear camera, while some listings show 0.3MP. Because the official pages disagree, verify the exact unit rather than assuming every BV8900-branded phone has the same camera array.
The main camera should be adequate for daylight records, job-site photos and documentation. Independent coverage notes weaker low-light results; it is not a replacement for a modern camera phone. Thermal imaging is a separate sensing system and should not be counted as an additional ordinary night camera.

Rugged protection has boundaries
IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H are claimed protection ratings, not a promise that the phone cannot break. A cracked screen, damaged port, aging seal or previous repair can reduce water resistance. Salt water, solvents, mud and high-pressure cleaning are especially risky, and liquid damage is generally not covered simply because an IP rating exists.
- Never charge it while wet.
- After water exposure, inspect and dry the USB-C port completely.
- A drop can damage the battery, camera module or internal connectors without obvious external damage.
- The screen can still crack despite the rugged housing.
UWB and network compatibility
Blackview advertises UWB positioning with approximately 50cm precision when used with a compatible tag. UWB is a short-range precision radio, not a replacement for GPS. Accuracy depends on the tag, software, line of sight and surroundings. It does not automatically guarantee compatibility with Apple AirTag, Google Find My Device or every Samsung SmartTag feature.

- Identify the exact model and regional SKU.
- Compare its LTE bands with the intended carrier.
- Confirm VoLTE support and activation of imported devices.
- Check return rights if calls, texts or data fail.
- Do not infer compatibility merely from a “4G” label.
Reliability, updates and support risk
Owner discussions mention fingerprint failures, charging problems, OTA-related bricks, unclear thermal software and difficulty obtaining firmware. Examples include fingerprint reports and an OTA failure discussion. These anecdotes identify possible failure modes but cannot establish how common they are. Warranty location, replacement policy and access to factory firmware matter more for a work phone than a rugged label alone.
Is it worth buying in 2026?
The only clearly documented price is Blackview’s historical $189.99 AliExpress launch promotion for December 11–15, 2023. It is not a current price, and no verified current US official-store price or stock status is established. Treat marketplace listings, taxes, shipping, warranty and return costs as part of the purchase price.
Buy when
- You genuinely need an integrated thermal camera and very large battery.
- The phone is heavily discounted and comes from a seller with dependable returns.
- 4G is sufficient and you accept Android 13’s uncertain support horizon.
Avoid when
- You need 5G, a light phone, high-end gaming or flagship photography.
- Thermal work requires calibrated measurements, high resolution or professional reporting.
- The price approaches a newer thermal rugged phone.
- You cannot verify LTE bands, the thermal app, warranty coverage or accessories.

Compare thermal resolution and temperature features first, then software age, 4G/5G support, battery, weight, warranty, LTE bands, total landed cost and whether the required thermal application and accessories are available.
