Blackjaw is Tsuchioto Works’ plier-based multitool, designed to keep its implements attached to the tool instead of relying on loose interchangeable bits. That makes it a fixed-kit alternative to bit-based multitools—not a direct performance upgrade over Leatherman. New Atlas reported it at 4.2 inches (107 mm) closed and 7.8 oz (220 g), with a Kickstarter campaign and planned March 2027 deliveries reported in September 2026.
What is the Blackjaw multitool?
Blackjaw is a multitool from Tsuchioto Works, a Tokyo design workshop focused on handheld tools. The company’s stated design response to misplaced or missing multitool bits is to attach every implement to the chassis. New Atlas described that approach in its September 29, 2026 report.

It is therefore a plier-based tool with a set selection of implements, rather than a driver system that accepts replacement bits. The design prioritizes keeping the included tools together; it does not offer the same flexibility as a multitool that lets its owner swap in task-specific driver bits.

New Atlas describes the pliers as a single-pivot design with long-nose tips, a rounded gripping area and a wire cutter at the inner crease. The implements sit on the outside of the split handles and can be accessed without opening the whole body.

| Grouping | Reported implements |
|---|---|
| Camp | Double-sided saw, blade, can opener and bottle opener |
| Work | Wire cutter, wire stripper and long-nose pliers |
| DIY | Screwdrivers and standard pliers; Phillips and flathead drivers are specifically reported |
The fixed driver selection is a meaningful limitation for some users: New Atlas reports no option to substitute other bit sizes or styles. Those jobs may call for a separate driver or another multitool.
Why is it called both 10-in-1 and 11-in-1?
The difference is how the carabiner is counted, not a reported hardware discrepancy. New Atlas says Tsuchioto claims 11 tools, while its author counts ten functions and treats the carabiner as a carry feature rather than a tool. The Kickstarter campaign page title also describes it as an 11-in-1 tool with pliers and a carabiner.

How large and heavy is it?
New Atlas reports a closed length of 4.2 inches (107 mm) and a weight of 7.8 oz (220 g). Those are reported specifications, not independent measurements. The article describes an aluminum and stainless-steel construction with a matte black finish.
Tsuchioto reportedly expects the finish to look “used rather than ruined” after six months of regular use. That is the maker’s stated expectation as reported by New Atlas, not a verified durability result; no hands-on testing or independently established wear performance is available here.

How does Blackjaw compare with a Leatherman-style multitool?
The clearest distinction supported by the product reporting is the tool system: Blackjaw keeps its implements attached to its chassis, while interchangeable-bit designs allow users to select other driver bits. The trade-off is straightforward: a fixed set can keep the included implements together, but cannot adapt to a job that needs a different driver style or size.
Beyond that design distinction, the available reporting does not establish a tested performance comparison with Leatherman or Gerber tools. It provides no comparative results for grip, cutting, wire stripping, durability, ergonomics, warranty or value, so those factors should not be inferred from the product description.
