An 11-pin-to-5-pin adapter connects specific 11-contact and 5-contact connectors, but the phrase alone does not tell you what equipment it fits or what it does. It can refer to a Samsung Micro-USB/MHL adapter for a phone-to-display connection or to a vehicle wiring harness for snowplow lights. Those are unrelated products, not interchangeable adapters.
What “11-pin to 5-pin” tells you—and what it doesn’t
The numbers describe the contacts on the connector ends; they do not define a universal wiring standard. The phrase does not identify the device family, connector genders, pin mapping, or intended function. For that reason, an adapter described this way is not automatically compatible with any other 11-pin connector or 5-pin accessory.

StarTech’s S3MHADAP adapts a Samsung 11-pin connector for a standard 5-pin Micro-USB MHL connection. Its datasheet lists an 11-pin MHL male end and a 5-pin Micro-USB-B female end. StarTech describes the product as converting “an 11-pin Micro USB Samsung female connector to a Micro USB-B 5-pin female connector” (StarTech S3MHADAP datasheet).

The documented use is to connect specified Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, and Note 2, to an MHL-enabled display through a 5-pin MHL cable or adapter. Check that the phone and the rest of the cable-and-display path support the relevant MHL function; matching connector shape or pin count alone does not establish that they will work.
Western/Fisher/SnowEx 11-pin-to-5-pin plow-light harness
Buyers Products lists SAM model 1311820 as a Western/Fisher 11-pin-to-5-pin plow-light adapter harness on its SAM Plug and Play OEM adapters page. The product-family page describes adapters for aftermarket plow lights and names compatible lamp models. Custom Truck Equipment identifies the 1311820’s ends as a Western/Fisher/SnowEx overmolded 11-pin connector and a SAM 5-pin GT150 (product listing).

This is vehicle-lighting wiring, not a phone or MHL adapter. For a plow installation, match the harness family and lamp model against the manufacturer’s compatibility information rather than relying on the “11-pin to 5-pin” wording.

How to identify the right adapter
- Name the application. Determine whether you need a Samsung MHL phone connection, a plow-light harness, or another specifically documented system.
- Check both connector ends. Compare the physical connector and its gender with the device port and accessory plug. The Samsung S3MHADAP, for example, has an 11-pin male end and a 5-pin female end.
- Match the exact product and equipment. Use the adapter part number and the manufacturer’s compatibility list for the phone, lamp, or other equipment.
- Confirm the function and wiring. Look for documentation that supports the intended use, including MHL support for a phone-to-display path or the correct lamp and harness family for a plow. Do not infer a pin mapping from the contact counts.
Why the phrase can be misleading
“11-pin to 5-pin” sounds like a complete specification, but it supplies only contact counts. Connector genders and physical forms can differ, and products with the same counts can serve entirely different systems. No universal cross-system pinout is established by the product documentation cited here.
