What’s actually slowing this PC down?

First check whether Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and your platform’s online services are working. Then identify where the failure occurs: signing in to PlayStation, Xbox, Battle.net, or another platform is different from connecting to Cold War after you are already signed in. If the game loads but your progress or Activision account is wrong, check which Activision account is linked before changing anything.
Start by checking game and platform status
A service outage can look like a login or connection error. Activision’s Black Ops Cold War online services page advises checking the game’s status first. Check your console or PC platform’s service status as well. Status changes over time, so check while the error is happening rather than assuming a past outage explains it.

If either service reports an issue, wait for it to recover before changing account links or router settings. Those changes will not resolve an outage.

Work out which sign-in is failing
You cannot sign in to your console or PC platform
This is a platform sign-in or internet-connection problem, not necessarily a Cold War account problem. Activision directs players who cannot sign in to their system account to the relevant platform’s connection help. Check that platform’s service status and run its available internet connection test. Activision’s Cold War connection guidance is dated October 7, 2020; platform menus and instructions may have changed, so use current platform support steps.

You are signed in, but Cold War will not connect online
Check Activision’s game-service status and your platform status. If neither reports an outage, run the platform’s connection test. If the test indicates poor or unstable connectivity, follow the network steps below. If your connection is otherwise working, consider whether the issue is instead Activision account access, account linking, or enforcement.
Check the Activision account linked to your progress
Cold War progression is stored on the Activision account. Progress carries across platforms linked to that account, but linking a platform account to a different Activision account does not transfer the progress. Before unlinking or relinking anything, confirm which Activision account holds the progress you want to use.
Rank #2
Activision’s account-registration and linking guidance explains account management. If you cannot link accounts, use the account-linking support option rather than treating it as a network fault.

Choose the right Activision account recovery route
You forgot your password or did not receive a reset email
Use Activision’s official password-reset workflow for a forgotten password. If the reset email does not arrive, check the email address associated with the account and your spam or junk folder, then follow Activision’s support options for “I didn’t get a password reset email.” Do not give your password or verification codes to anyone offering unofficial recovery help.

You cannot complete two-factor authentication or no longer have the account email
Use Activision’s support options for two-factor authentication problems or lack of access to the account email. These are account-access issues; changing router settings will not restore access.
You think someone took over your account
Use Activision’s hacked-account recovery process. It is the appropriate route for suspected compromise and is separate from ordinary account linking or ban appeals. Avoid sharing passwords or verification codes with third parties.

Check ban status separately from account recovery
If you suspect enforcement is preventing access, check Activision’s ban-status and appeal page. Activision says temporary bans are not eligible for appeal; its page provides an appeal flow for active bans. If you believe a compromised account caused the issue, use hacked-account recovery instead. The available process does not guarantee an appeal outcome or a review time.
Troubleshoot connection quality only after status and account checks
These steps target an unstable or poor-quality connection. They do not fix incorrect credentials, account-linking mistakes, bans, or service outages. Activision’s Cold War connection guide strongly recommends a wired Ethernet connection for gameplay.
Quick Recap
- Test the connection. Run your platform’s internet connection test and note whether it reports a connection problem.
- Try Ethernet if practical. Connect the console or PC to the router with an Ethernet cable, then test the game again. This is an optional connection-quality measure, not an account fix.
- Restart the router and reduce competing traffic. Restart the router, then pause downloads or other bandwidth-heavy activity on the network and test again.
- Change router settings incrementally, if needed. Activision’s guide discusses UPnP, port forwarding, and testing a console-only DMZ as later steps. Test after each change rather than applying several at once. DMZ testing should be limited to the console’s static IP; remove that IP from the DMZ afterward.
- Ask the network provider or administrator for help if the issue persists. Activision advises contacting your ISP if its steps do not resolve the problem. On a school, workplace, or other shared institutional network, contact the network administrator.
Match the symptom to the next step
- Platform sign-in fails: Check platform status and platform-specific connection help.
- Signed in, but Cold War cannot connect: Check Activision and platform service status, then run a connection test.
- Progress or linked account is wrong: Confirm the Activision account that owns the progress before changing links.
- Password, email, or verification access fails: Use Activision’s account-access support options.
- Account may be compromised: Start the hacked-account recovery process.
- You suspect a ban: Check ban status and the applicable appeal route.
- Connection test or gameplay indicates unstable networking: Follow the network troubleshooting steps, not account recovery.
