PC offers more control over graphics and supports DLSS and full ray tracing, but results depend on your exact hardware and settings. PS5 gives you a fixed console setup, and its current Performance Mode differs from the launch version reviewers tested. Choose PC if your system and the game’s benchmark meet your resolution and frame-rate goals; choose PS5 if you want a console experience without tuning PC hardware.
What differs between PC and PS5?
Both versions released on August 20, 2024. PlayStation describes Black Myth: Wukong as “an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and based on Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature.” The PS5 edition is marked PS5 Pro Enhanced on PlayStation’s US product page, though that label alone does not establish a particular performance result.

The practical difference is flexibility. On PC, available options depend on your graphics card and settings, including DLSS and full ray tracing, also called path tracing. PS5 uses a defined console configuration with selectable modes. That makes the console experience simpler to assess, but does not make one platform automatically faster or better-looking in every situation.
How does PS5 performance compare now?
Do not use launch-era PS5 mode impressions as a description of the current build without qualification. Digital Foundry’s August 21, 2024 analysis examined the launch versions of Quality, Balance, and Performance modes. It predates subsequent patches, so it is evidence about launch performance rather than a test of the current version.

Game Science’s October 13, 2025 patch notes say the PS5 Performance Mode was adjusted back to 60Hz to reduce input latency and achieve higher resolution, with lighting quality also adjusted to improve performance. The original version remains available as “Performance Mode (Legacy).” The same notes list other technical improvements, including faster loading and changes to texture clarity, CPU and rendering performance, and memory use.
Those patch notes describe changes, not measured results across different scenes, displays, or current hardware configurations. They do not establish a precise frame rate or image-quality comparison against PC.

How does PC performance compare?
PC performance depends on the particular CPU, GPU, memory, resolution, graphics settings, and upscaling choices. Game Science’s Steam announcement links to the PC system requirements and says the listed specifications were tested with DLSS, FSR, or XeSS enabled. Check your components against those requirements, but treat them as a compatibility reference—not a guarantee of a particular frame rate.
NVIDIA documents support for DLSS and full ray tracing. Its article says DLSS 3 Frame Generation is available on RTX 40-series graphics cards. NVIDIA also provides a standalone benchmark intended to help owners assess their PCs before buying. Its published frame-rate figures are NVIDIA’s own results for the specific graphics cards and settings named in the article; they should not be generalized to other configurations.

Digital Foundry’s August 23, 2024 PC analysis discusses optimized settings, mid-range GPU performance, traversal stutter on mid-range CPUs, shader compilation issues, and PS5-equivalent comparisons. That is launch-era analysis, not a current matched test of patched PC and PS5 versions. The October 2025 patch notes document PC changes—including FSR4 integration for compatible hardware, updated default settings for some cards, and CPU, rendering, and memory improvements—but do not quantify performance gains for every PC.
Which version should you buy?

Before deciding, consider the total cost of the platform you do not already own, the resolution and refresh rate of your display, and whether you prefer adjusting settings or using a fixed configuration. A useful PC recommendation requires the specific CPU and GPU, display resolution, and desired frame rate; without those details, a firm platform performance verdict would be guesswork.

Price and edition details
PlayStation’s US listing showed the standard PS5 edition at $59.99 when accessed on October 7, 2026. Store prices vary by region and can change, so check the listing for your country before buying. The developer’s June 7, 2024 announcement described digital Standard and Deluxe editions and said physical Deluxe and Collector’s edition details had been revealed. It does not establish current retailer stock or the contents of a specific available listing.
