Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
Beyond Cosmo is a large action-focused science-fiction pack. Its CurseForge listing describes more than 400 mods, new dimensions and structures, high-tech weapons, automation, space exploration, FTB Teams multiplayer, and quests. The listing showed 522,473 downloads in 2026; the project description advertises 400-plus mods, more than 100 new mobs, and more than 300 new structures. Those figures and the current file can change as the project is updated.

What you need before installing
Prepare the following before running the installer:
- A computer that can remain online while players connect, or a rented Minecraft host.
- The exact Beyond Cosmo client release you intend to run. The current main file identified by the project is Beyond Cosmo-Ver2.9.1, updated October 11, 2026.
- Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge 47.4.22. A different Minecraft or Forge version can produce missing-mod, registry, or network-handshake errors.
- Java 17 installed and available to the command line. Do not rely on an older Java installation left over from another Minecraft instance.
- Sufficient storage for the Forge installation, the mod files, generated dimensions, player data, backups, and future world growth.
- Permission to create firewall rules and, for an internet server, to configure your router or upstream network.
The pack page recommends allocating 8 GB of RAM to the client, or 10–12 GB when using shaders. That is not a universal dedicated-server minimum. Server memory depends on player count, view distance, chunk generation, automation, dimensions, and JVM settings; no independent test establishes a guaranteed capacity or minimum for every Beyond Cosmo world.

Install Java 17 and Forge
1. Confirm Java 17
Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime or development kit, then open a new terminal or Command Prompt and run:
java -version
The output should identify Java 17. If it reports another major version, correct the system PATH or use the full path to the Java 17 executable when launching Forge. A server that silently starts with the wrong Java can fail before the first world-load message.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2. Create a dedicated server directory
Make a new, writable folder used only for this server. Avoid placing it inside the client’s installation directory: separating the two makes backups, reinstalls, and version rollbacks safer. Download the Forge installer for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge 47.4.22, place it in that folder, and run it.
3. Select “Install server”
In the Forge installer, choose Install server and select the dedicated server folder. Let the installer download the required libraries. Do not choose the client-install option for this directory. When installation completes, Forge creates the launch files and libraries needed by the server.
4. Accept the first-run agreement
If Forge creates an eula.txt file, open it, read Mojang’s license, and change eula=false to eula=true only if you agree. The server will stop on its first run until this file is accepted.
Copy the Beyond Cosmo files from a matching client
The project’s setup sequence uses the client as the source for pack files. Close the game and launcher first so files are not being changed while you copy them. From the same Beyond Cosmo release, copy these folders into the Forge server directory:

configkubejsdefaultconfigsTaczmods
Merge or replace the destination folders as appropriate for a new server. Copying only mods is insufficient: configuration files, KubeJS scripts, default world settings, and the Tacz data can all affect recipes, gameplay rules, and startup compatibility. Keep the folder names and capitalization intact.
The official pack’s server-pack download, when supplied for the release you are using, is another source for these files. Do not combine files from different Beyond Cosmo versions. Updating one mod independently, even when a newer build exists, can break the pack’s scripts or cause clients and the server to disagree about registries.
Remove client-only and problematic mods
Before starting the server, remove the client-side or problematic entries identified by project owner blueversal. The documented list is release-sensitive and includes:
BetterF3BadOptimizationsentity-culling-forgefancymenuOculusRubidium ExtraSodium ExtrasVisuality
Delete the corresponding mod files from the server’s mods folder, not from the client installation. The names above may appear with version suffixes in their filenames. Remove only the entries named by the project for your release; do not broadly delete unfamiliar files, because a mod that looks cosmetic may provide server-side content or scripts.
Mac-specific note
The project also documents a Mac-specific workaround: remove Spark and downgrade Cosmic Horizon to version 0.0.7.2. Treat this as a release-specific troubleshooting instruction, not a universal requirement for every operating system. If your release notes change, follow the newer project guidance.
Do not add OptiFine
The project warns against adding OptiFine. Beyond Cosmo already depends on a large, coordinated mod set; inserting a separate rendering or optimization layer can create mixin conflicts, duplicate functionality, or client/server mismatch. Keep optional visual enhancements on the client only when the project explicitly supports them.

Configure server.properties and ServerCore
After the first Forge run creates configuration files, stop the server before editing them. Open server.properties in a plain-text editor and apply the project’s documented optional settings where they fit your network:
allow-flight=true
max-tick-time=-1
allow-flight=true prevents the server from kicking players for flight-like movement that a mod may legitimately produce. Setting max-tick-time=-1 disables the watchdog timeout. That can prevent a long world-generation task from triggering a watchdog shutdown, but it also removes an automatic recovery mechanism: a genuinely hung process may remain stuck instead of stopping. Use the setting deliberately and monitor the console.
Coordinate render distance
Render distance affects chunk work and memory. Set the desired value in server.properties, then set the corresponding distance in the ServerCore configuration. The two settings should agree with the performance level you intend to support. Raising distance increases the number of chunks that must be loaded, generated, and ticked; lowering it can reduce exploration lag and CPU pressure at the cost of a smaller visible world.
Do not copy a value from a different pack or assume that a client’s render-distance slider controls the server’s workload. The server-side value is the limit that matters for shared world simulation.
Start the server with run.bat
Windows launch
In the server folder, double-click run.bat or execute it from Command Prompt. The console should progress through Forge loading, mod discovery, world preparation, and a message indicating that the server is ready for connections. Keep the window open while the server is running.
First startup expectations
The first launch can take substantially longer than later starts because Forge builds caches and the pack initializes scripts and registries. Wait for a ready-state message before attempting to connect. If the window closes immediately, launch run.bat from an open Command Prompt so the error remains visible, then inspect the last lines of the log.

Back up before creating a public address
Stop the process with the console’s stop command, wait for a clean shutdown, and copy the world and configuration folders to a separate backup location. Never back up by copying files while the server is actively writing region data unless your backup method is designed for a running process.
Make the server reachable
LAN play
Players on the same local network can usually connect using the host computer’s private IP address and the configured Minecraft port. The exact address varies by operating system and network; check the host’s network settings rather than guessing.
Internet play and port forwarding
Internet access normally requires forwarding the Minecraft server port from the router to the host computer and allowing the Java process through the operating system firewall. The project intentionally leaves port-forwarding instructions to the operator because router interfaces, carrier-grade NAT, and internet providers differ. If your provider does not give you a reachable public address, conventional forwarding may not work; a managed host or a private networking solution may be simpler.
Recommended Free Tools
Expose only the port you need, keep the operating system patched, use a strong operator password, and do not share administrative credentials with ordinary players. Port forwarding makes the machine part of the public attack surface, so backups and basic host security are essential.
RAM and performance planning
Use the project’s numbers as planning guidance, not a performance guarantee:
| Use case | Published figure | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Beyond Cosmo client | 8 GB recommended allocation | Project guidance for running the client without shaders |
| Beyond Cosmo client with shaders | 10–12 GB allocation | Project guidance when shaders are enabled |
| Hosted-server examples | 8 GB recommended starting plan | Vendor recommendations, not independent benchmarks |
A dedicated server may need less or more than the client. Large bases, many machines, frequent chunk exploration, multiple dimensions, and several simultaneous players increase load. Allocating every available gigabyte is not automatically better: the operating system and Java process need headroom, and excessive heap sizes can make garbage-collection pauses more noticeable.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Practical tuning order
- Start with the pack’s matching files and an 8 GB server plan or allocation as a baseline, while leaving memory for the operating system.
- Observe startup, garbage-collection behavior, tick warnings, and memory usage during normal play rather than judging from the title-screen load.
- Reduce server and ServerCore render distance if exploration causes lag before increasing memory.
- Pre-generate areas when your hosting environment supports it; generating terrain during active exploration is a common source of spikes.
- Increase CPU or RAM only when logs and monitoring show that the existing resources are the bottleneck. No published test establishes a player-count promise for Beyond Cosmo.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
Self-hosting costs no monthly server fee, but you provide the hardware, Java and Forge installation, file synchronization, firewall and networking, updates, backups, and recovery. A managed host charges recurring fees in exchange for a control panel, automated installation, support, backups, and easier scaling. The trade-off is less direct access to the underlying machine and dependence on the host’s pricing, region, policies, and available pack version.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Consideration | Self-hosted server | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | Install Java 17 and Forge, copy and clean the pack, configure the network, and test | Often one-click Forge deployment with a supplied server pack |
| File and mod control | Direct access to every file and script | Usually available through a panel or file manager, subject to provider limits |
| Maintenance | You perform updates, backups, troubleshooting, and recovery | Provider automates some maintenance and offers support |
| Network exposure | You handle firewall rules, port forwarding, and public reachability | Network endpoint is supplied by the provider |
| Scaling | Limited by your hardware and connection | Often easier to move to a larger RAM or CPU plan |
| Cost | No hosting subscription, but electricity, hardware, and bandwidth are yours | Recurring monthly charge |
| Recovery | Depends on the backups you create and store | May include scheduled backups and restore tools |
Hosted Beyond Cosmo examples
The following figures are vendor advertisements from 2026, not independent tests. Confirm the current price, region, supported pack release, cancellation terms, and backup policy before paying.
| Provider | Advertised details | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Game Host Bros | 8 GB recommended starting plan; one-click Forge 1.20.1 deployment; included server pack; daily backups; DDoS protection; 12 GB and 16 GB plans | Claims and availability can change; pre-generation is advertised as a way to reduce exploration lag |
| WinterNode | 8 GB recommended; automatic installation; starting price listed as $15.92 per month | Price and pack availability are time-sensitive vendor listings |
Neither listing establishes a universal player capacity or a measured tick-performance result. A host’s “8 GB recommended” label should be read as a starting configuration, not proof that every group will receive the same performance.
Troubleshoot common failures
Forge refuses to start or reports a Java error
- Run
java -versionand verify Java 17. - Confirm that the Forge installer was run in Install server mode for Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Launch from an open command window to capture the complete error instead of relying on a closed batch window.
Clients get a mod-list or registry mismatch
- Check that every player uses the same Beyond Cosmo release and Forge 47.4.22.
- Re-copy
config, kubejs, defaultconfigs,Tacz, andmodsfrom that exact client release. - Remove the documented client-only entries from the server, and do not update individual mods.
The server crashes while loading a visual mod
Compare the server’s mods folder with the project’s removal list. BetterF3, BadOptimizations, entity-culling-forge, fancymenu, Oculus, Rubidium Extra, Sodium Extras, and Visuality are specifically identified for removal. On Mac, also apply the project’s Spark removal and Cosmic Horizon 0.0.7.2 downgrade instruction when relevant to your release.
Players cannot connect from outside the home
- Verify that the server is running and listening on the configured port.
- Allow Java through the host firewall.
- Forward the same port from the router to the server computer’s private IP.
- Check whether the internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT or blocks inbound connections.
Exploration causes severe lag
- Lower and synchronize render-distance settings in
server.propertiesand ServerCore. - Pre-generate terrain if your host or tooling supports it.
- Check CPU, memory, and console tick warnings before changing heap size.
Keeping the installation maintainable
Record the Beyond Cosmo version, Minecraft version, Forge version, Java version, memory allocation, render-distance values, and every manual change. Keep a clean copy of the server pack so you can rebuild instead of guessing which file changed.
- Stop the server cleanly before copying world or configuration data.
- Take dated backups before changing mods, scripts, configs, or Forge.
- Test updates on a duplicate world first; never update one mod in isolation unless the project explicitly instructs you to.
- Keep at least one known-good backup and, if possible, store a copy off the host machine.
- Recheck the project page for release-specific removal lists and version changes before upgrading clients or servers.
Which setup should you choose?
Choose self-hosting when you already have a reliable always-on computer, can configure networking, and want unrestricted access to files and scripts. Choose managed hosting when you value one-click deployment, provider-side backups, support, and simpler scaling more than eliminating a monthly bill. In either case, begin with the exact 1.20.1 and Forge 47.4.22 combination, synchronize the complete pack folders, remove the listed client-only mods, and validate a backup before opening the server to friends.
