Best choice for an X-Men team: X-Men Legends II
X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is the most direct fit if you want the X-Men at the center rather than as part of a broader Marvel roster. Activision describes an action RPG in which X-Men and Brotherhood characters unite against Apocalypse. Nintendo’s listing says 16 characters are playable from the outset, with additional characters unlocking as the story unfolds, and notes four-player co-op.

The main caveat is age and access: the documented releases are for PS2, Xbox, GameCube, PSP and Windows. That makes it a legacy option, not a game to assume will run on a current console or be available from a current digital store. Check the exact platform, region, edition and condition before buying a physical copy.

Its story draws on the Civil War era, making it a fit if you want a Marvel team game organized around opposing sides rather than an X-Men-only conflict. Xbox lists it for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S; regional catalog availability can vary.

What to check before choosing
- Want mutants at the center? Start with X-Men Legends II, but first confirm you can source a compatible legacy copy.
- Want Wolverine in a larger hero team? The Xbox listing for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance explicitly includes him.
- Want co-op? The cited listings describe four-player co-op for X-Men Legends II and up to four players for both Ultimate Alliance games. Check the specific game and platform for the mode you intend to use.
- Unsure about access? The Xbox store listings cover Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S for the two Ultimate Alliance games. The X-Men title’s cited releases are older platforms, so don’t assume modern compatibility.
Sony’s official Marvel’s Wolverine page describes an original story in which Wolverine returns to mutant task force Team X after leaving it three years earlier. The worldwide PS5 launch date was September 15, 2026, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s announcement.
