Best WordPress Analytics and Stats Plugins for 2026

A practical 2026 comparison of WordPress analytics plugins, covering Google integrations, GA4 ecommerce and forms, self-hosted and cookieless statistics, privacy, setup, troubleshooting and dated price figures.

For most WordPress sites, Site Kit by Google is the best free starting point. It is Google’s official, open-source connector for Analytics, Search Console, AdSense, PageSpeed Insights and Tag Manager. A WooCommerce store, membership site or agency that needs guided GA4 reports for sales, forms, campaigns and affiliate links will usually get more usable detail from MonsterInsights or ExactMetrics. If keeping visitor data inside WordPress, avoiding Google Analytics or using cookieless measurement is the priority, choose Independent Analytics or WP Statistics instead.

The right plugin depends less on a feature checklist than on four decisions: where data is stored, whether consent is required for your measurement method, how deeply you need to measure events and revenue, and whether your team wants reports in WordPress or in an external analytics service. This guide compares the leading options, explains their limits and costs, and gives setup paths for common site types.

What a WordPress analytics plugin actually does

A WordPress analytics plugin is a measurement layer between your site and a reporting system. It may insert a tracking tag, authenticate an existing analytics property, collect visits in your own database, or present reports that would otherwise require a separate analytics login. Some plugins do several of these jobs; none automatically makes an analytics plan, consent notice or event taxonomy correct.

Basic statistics normally include sessions, visitors, page views, landing pages, referrers, devices and geography. More advanced implementations add events such as file downloads, outbound-link clicks, video plays, form submissions, internal searches and scroll depth. Ecommerce tracking connects visits to products, carts, transactions, revenue and average order value. Campaign and affiliate reports preserve the source and medium that brought a visitor to a page or sale.

Those capabilities are not interchangeable. A local page-view counter cannot, by itself, explain which paid campaign produced a purchase. A Google-hosted property can provide sophisticated attribution but places data processing in Google’s ecosystem. A self-hosted, cookieless tool can reduce third-party dependence while offering less cross-site and advertising analysis.

Quick comparison of the leading plugins

Plugin Where data and reports live Notable integrations or reports Best fit Price evidence
Site Kit by Google Google services, summarized in WordPress Analytics, Search Console, AdSense, PageSpeed Insights, Tag Manager, Sign in with Google, Reader Revenue Manager and Google Ads Publishers and site owners wanting an official, no-cost Google connection Free and open source
MonsterInsights Google Analytics 4 with guided WordPress reports Ecommerce conversion, average order value, products, referrals, forms, PPC ads, campaigns, source/medium, landing pages, technology, speed, search keywords and affiliate links Beginners, agencies, WooCommerce stores and publishers needing actionable reports without code Plus introductory price of $99.50 per year on a 2026 pricing-page capture; renewals are stated to be at full price
ExactMetrics Google Analytics 4 summarized in WordPress Real-time behavior, acquisition sources and ecommerce reporting for WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, MemberPress, MemberMouse, Restrict Content Pro, GiveWP and LifterLMS Site owners wanting guided setup, real-time views and broad store or membership integrations Current tier prices were not stated in the supplied material
Independent Analytics Statistics collected and displayed in WordPress Privacy-oriented, Google Analytics alternative focused on native WordPress reporting Owners who want local, privacy-friendly statistics and less third-party dependence $48 per year was listed in a 2026 Liquid Web comparison table; verify the current offer
WP Statistics Self-hosted WordPress database, with a cookieless mode Dashboard and historical reports; partial GA4 support according to a comparison table Sites prioritizing local storage and established WordPress statistics Free version listed; ecommerce tracking was not listed in the comparison
Analytify Google Analytics reports in WordPress Dashboard, GA4, events, ecommerce and GDPR support Users seeking a lighter GA4 dashboard with a free entry tier $59 per year was a dated comparison-table starting price; verify before purchase

Active-install counts indicate reach, not quality or speed. A 2026 WordPress.org directory capture listed more than 2 million active installations for MonsterInsights and more than 100,000 for Independent Analytics. An ExactMetrics 2026 page capture claimed over 1,000,000 active installs. No independent controlled test established that any of these plugins is objectively fastest or produces higher conversion rates, so treat performance and conversion claims as unproven without testing your own site.

Site Kit by Google: best free official connector

What it includes

Google’s WordPress.org listing calls Site Kit “the official WordPress plugin from Google for insights about how people find and use your site.” It is free and open source. A central dashboard can connect Analytics, Search Console, AdSense, PageSpeed Insights and Tag Manager, with additional connections for Sign in with Google, Reader Revenue Manager and Google Ads. Reports cover the whole site and can show metrics for an individual post or page.

Requirements and setup

Your site must be publicly reachable and running WordPress 5.2 or newer, PHP 7.4 or newer, a modern browser and an available WordPress REST API. A site blocked by basic authentication, a maintenance screen or a firewall that disables REST requests may fail during setup.

  1. In WordPress, open Plugins > Add New, search for Site Kit by Google, install it and activate it.
  2. Open Site Kit > Dashboard and start setup. Sign in with the Google account that has access to the relevant properties, then complete site ownership verification.
  3. Connect Search Console first if the site is new. Add Analytics and select an existing GA4 property or create one through the setup flow.
  4. Connect AdSense, PageSpeed Insights or Tag Manager only when those services are actually used. Extra connections do not improve measurement by themselves.
  5. Open the dashboard after data begins arriving. Use the page-level panel on a post or page to inspect its search, traffic and engagement metrics.

Trade-offs

  • Strength: no plugin license is required for the core dashboard, and the integrations come from the services that own the underlying data.
  • Limitation: detailed ecommerce funnels, form attribution and custom event analysis still belong in GA4 or a specialized reporting plugin.
  • Privacy duty: connecting Analytics does not decide whether your site needs consent, a cookie banner, a regional configuration or a retention policy. Configure those separately for your audience and legal obligations.
  • Dependency: reports rely on Google accounts and services. A disconnected property, blocked script or changed Google permission can remove data from the WordPress dashboard.

MonsterInsights: guided GA4 reports for stores and publishers

Why teams choose it

MonsterInsights is aimed at people who want useful GA4 questions answered inside wp-admin rather than building every exploration themselves. Its documented reports include ecommerce conversion, average order value, top products, referral sources, form conversion, PPC ad tracking, campaign and source/medium performance, landing pages, technology, speed, search keywords and affiliate-link activity.

That breadth makes it a practical fit for a WooCommerce store, a lead-generation site with several forms, an agency managing multiple clients, or a publisher monetizing affiliate links. The plugin is documented as requiring at least WordPress 4.9 and working on standard WordPress installations and WordPress.com Business plans.

Cost and renewal details

A 2026 capture of the official pricing page showed a Plus introductory price of $99.50 per year and stated that renewals are charged at the full price. Introductory pricing is not a perpetual rate; check the checkout screen for the renewal amount, included sites and any feature limits before committing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Typical setup path

  1. Install and activate the plugin from Plugins > Add New.
  2. Choose Connect MonsterInsights, authorize the Google account that owns the GA4 property and select the correct website.
  3. Confirm that the tracking profile, website URL and reporting time zone match the property you intend to use.
  4. Enable only the modules you need, such as ecommerce, forms, campaigns or affiliate links. Add the corresponding extension or plan when a module is not included in your tier.
  5. Place test orders, submit a test form and click a tagged affiliate or campaign link. Check the real-time report first, then allow processing time before judging historical reports.

Important limitations

MonsterInsights presents Google Analytics data; it does not turn GA4 into a self-hosted system. Consent and regional privacy configuration remain your responsibility. A report that says a form converted does not prove that every lead is valid, and affiliate-link reports depend on consistent link tagging and event implementation.

ExactMetrics: no-code GA4 and real-time reporting

Where it stands out

ExactMetrics describes a no-code setup with a dashboard for Google Analytics reports, real-time visitor behavior, acquisition sources and ecommerce tracking. Its documented integrations cover WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, MemberPress, MemberMouse, Restrict Content Pro, GiveWP and LifterLMS, making it relevant to stores, memberships, donations and online courses.

An ExactMetrics page capture from 2026 claimed over 1,000,000 active installs. That is a vendor-published reach figure, not an independent quality score. A customer statement on the same material described configuration as simple and results as clearly displayed; it is a testimonial, not controlled testing.

Setup and validation

  1. Install ExactMetrics and launch its setup wizard from the new dashboard menu.
  2. Authorize the Google account with access to the intended GA4 property, then select the property and data stream.
  3. Choose the site type and enable ecommerce, membership or donation tracking only if the corresponding plugin is active.
  4. Use the real-time report while visiting the site in a private browser window. Complete one representative transaction or form submission and confirm that the event appears.
  5. Document the selected property and stream in your site’s handover notes so another administrator does not connect a duplicate property later.

ExactMetrics is a reporting convenience layer over GA4. It is not the right choice when your main requirement is keeping all raw analytics data in WordPress or eliminating Google processing.

Independent Analytics: a privacy-oriented WordPress alternative

Independent Analytics is described in the official WordPress.org analytics category as “a simple, yet powerful WordPress analytics plugin that gives you privacy-friendly stats to grow your website.” The directory’s 2026 capture listed more than 100,000 active installations. Its core appeal is that reporting is designed to live in WordPress rather than requiring a Google Analytics account.

Use it when

  • You need page and post traffic reports in the WordPress admin.
  • You want to reduce dependence on a third-party analytics ecosystem.
  • Your privacy policy favors a first-party or local reporting approach.
  • You do not need Google Ads audiences, Search Console queries or Google’s cross-property attribution.

Implementation checklist

  1. Install the plugin and open its analytics screen after activation.
  2. Review the tracking and data-retention settings before collecting production traffic.
  3. Exclude administrator or staging traffic if the plugin provides those filters, and record the exclusions for future troubleshooting.
  4. Load several public pages from a logged-out browser, then verify that page views appear without adding a second tracking script from another plugin.
  5. Export or back up reports according to your site’s retention policy; local storage is still personal data if the collected fields can identify people.

A local dashboard can simplify data ownership, but it does not automatically make a site legally exempt from privacy obligations. IP handling, consent, retention and access controls still need a documented policy.

WP Statistics: self-hosted and cookieless reporting

WP Statistics is presented as a self-hosted option with a cookieless mode and historical reporting. A comparison table from Liquid Web lists dashboard reports, partial GA4 support and a free version, while listing no ecommerce tracking. The same comparison cautions that bot counts may require filtering.

When it is a good fit

  • A publisher wants long-running historical trends stored with the WordPress installation.
  • An organization prefers not to send ordinary page-view data to Google.
  • Cookie reduction is important and the site can accept less advertising-oriented attribution.

Operational cautions

Self-hosting transfers responsibility to you. Large historical tables can consume database space, and inaccurate bot filtering can inflate visits. Establish a retention period, monitor database growth and inspect unusual spikes before treating them as audience growth. If you need product revenue, cart funnels or campaign return on ad spend, plan on a separate ecommerce-capable system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Analytify and other lightweight choices

Liquid Web’s comparison lists Analytify with dashboard reports, GA4, event tracking, ecommerce tracking, GDPR support and a free version. It showed a Pro starting price of $59 per year; that was a dated comparison figure, so verify the current price, renewal terms and extension limits before buying.

Analytify can suit a site that wants a smaller GA4 dashboard than a full reporting suite. Confirm that its current integrations cover your form, store or membership stack, and test events before relying on a report for financial decisions. A plugin’s “GA4 support” label can mean anything from basic page views to complete purchase and refund events.

How to avoid duplicate or misleading statistics

Install one primary page-view method

Running Site Kit, a GA4 reporting plugin and a second analytics snippet at the same time can send duplicate page views. Choose one method to insert the Google tag. If you use a reporting plugin with a connection wizard, disable tag insertion in other plugins unless the documentation explicitly says the modes are compatible.

Separate staging from production

Exclude staging domains, developer IP addresses and automated uptime checks. Otherwise a redesign, migration or test suite can appear as a sudden audience surge. Verify the production hostname in the analytics property before launch.

Use a consistent campaign convention

Pick lowercase names and a fixed structure for source, medium and campaign parameters. For example, decide whether every newsletter uses email as the medium and apply that rule to every send. Inconsistent labels split one campaign across several rows and make plugin reports look incomplete.

Test events, not just the dashboard connection

  1. Open the site in a private browser and confirm a real-time page view.
  2. Submit a form with a disposable address and verify the form event.
  3. Complete a test order, including a coupon if your store uses one, and verify product, value and transaction identifiers.
  4. Click an outbound or affiliate link and confirm the event name and destination.
  5. Check that consent withdrawal stops optional tags where your configuration requires it.

Privacy, consent and data ownership

“Privacy-friendly” is not a single technical setting. Google-hosted GA4, a self-hosted database and cookieless counting create different data flows, but each can still involve personal data. Document what is collected, why it is collected, how long it is retained and who can access it.

  • Google-hosted measurement: review your regional consent mode, cookie behavior, retention settings and disclosure language. Do not assume that a plugin’s default is suitable for every jurisdiction.
  • Self-hosted measurement: secure the WordPress database, restrict dashboard access, update the plugin and set a retention schedule. Local storage does not remove security obligations.
  • Cookieless measurement: understand what the plugin counts, how it handles repeat visits and how bot traffic is filtered. Fewer cookies can mean less identity and attribution detail.
  • Agency and staff access: give each person the least privilege needed, and remove access when a contract or role ends.

Common problems and fixes

No data appears after installation

  • Confirm the plugin is connected to the intended property and data stream.
  • Check that caching or optimization has not removed the tracking script.
  • Visit the production URL in a private window and look at the real-time report.
  • Inspect consent settings: a tag may correctly wait until a visitor grants permission.
  • For Site Kit, confirm the site is public, meets the WordPress and PHP requirements and has a working REST API.

Numbers are higher than expected

  • Look for duplicate tags inserted by two plugins or by a theme.
  • Exclude staging, localhost, staff and monitoring traffic.
  • Review bot filtering, especially with WP Statistics.
  • Compare the same date range and time zone; GA4 and local counters may define sessions differently.

Ecommerce revenue is missing

  • Confirm the ecommerce module and the correct store integration are enabled.
  • Test a completed order, not only a product-page view.
  • Check that checkout, payment return and thank-you pages are not blocked by consent or redirects.
  • Verify currency, transaction ID, tax, shipping and refund handling in the underlying analytics property.

Reports disagree between plugins

Different systems use different session windows, bot rules, consent behavior, time zones and attribution models. Compare raw events for one test visit before comparing totals. Choose one system as the financial source of truth and use other dashboards for operational convenience.

Cost planning beyond the advertised price

Free core plugins can still require time for consent configuration, event design, QA and ongoing maintenance. Paid plans commonly gate ecommerce, forms, campaign, affiliate or membership reports behind a tier or extension. Record four amounts before purchase: the introductory price, the renewal price, the number of licensed sites and the cost of any integration add-ons.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The documented figures available for comparison are not all current vendor quotes: MonsterInsights shows a $99.50 annual introductory Plus price with full-price renewals stated; Liquid Web’s 2026 comparison lists $99.50 for MonsterInsights, $59 for Analytify and $48 for Independent Analytics. Treat the latter as dated comparison figures, not guarantees. ExactMetrics pricing was not stated in the supplied material.

A practical selection checklist

  • Do you need Google Search Console, AdSense, PageSpeed Insights or Tag Manager in the same dashboard?
  • Must raw or summarized data remain in WordPress?
  • Will you measure only page views, or also forms, downloads, campaigns, affiliate clicks and purchases?
  • Which ecommerce, membership, donation or course plugin must be supported?
  • Does your consent system block analytics until permission is granted?
  • Who will maintain tags, troubleshoot discrepancies and pay annual renewals?
  • How much database growth can a self-hosted option handle?
  • What report will be the official source for revenue and conversion decisions?

Bottom line

Choose Site Kit by Google for a free, official bridge to Google’s main site services. Choose MonsterInsights or ExactMetrics when a team needs guided GA4 ecommerce, form, campaign or membership reporting inside WordPress. Choose Independent Analytics when local, privacy-oriented statistics matter more than Google’s ecosystem. Choose WP Statistics when self-hosting and cookieless historical reporting are priorities and you can manage bot filtering and database growth. Whichever plugin you install, use one primary tracking method, test the events that matter to your business and treat consent, retention and access control as part of the analytics implementation rather than as plugin defaults.
