It cannot add Android Auto to a car that does not already support wired Android Auto. The official product information available for Motorola MA1, AAWireless and Carsifi describes features and compatibility claims, but does not establish an independently tested performance winner.
Check whether your car is eligible before buying
Connect your Android phone directly to the vehicle’s USB port and confirm that wired Android Auto starts. That is the key compatibility check: these adapters bridge a phone to the car’s existing wired Android Auto system; they do not add Android Auto to a car without it. AAWireless recommends this same check, and Carsifi says a wired Android Auto-capable head unit is required.

Cars that already have built-in wireless Android Auto are not compatible with the AAWireless dongle, according to its product FAQ. For other vehicles, compatibility still depends on the vehicle’s implementation and the specific adapter. Motorola, for example, identifies Mitsubishi Motors as a known MA1 incompatibility and cautions that automaker implementations vary.

These are manufacturer-published specifications and claims, not results from an apples-to-apples independent test. The available sources do not establish a comparative winner for connection speed, latency or reliability.

| Adapter | Published details | Best fit to consider | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motorola MA1 | Motorola lists 5 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and a weight of 31 g. It describes broad compatibility with factory USB-only Android Auto. | A straightforward option if the car has factory wired Android Auto and the phone meets Motorola’s requirements. | Motorola names Mitsubishi Motors as a known incompatibility. It also says wireless projection using 5 GHz can disconnect around some e-toll gates. Purchases from unauthorized third-party sellers may not qualify for the manufacturer’s warranty; see Motorola support. |
| AAWireless | The product FAQ describes Bluetooth credential exchange followed by Wi-Fi operation. It states a two-year warranty for purchases from Amazon or the official webshop. | Consider it if you want a clearly documented wired-connection eligibility check and your car does not already use built-in wireless Android Auto. | The dongle is not compatible with cars already using built-in wireless Android Auto. The stated warranty applies to the specified purchase channels. |
| Carsifi | Carsifi lists 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, USB-C power and a Magic Button for switching between multiple phones and controlling sessions. | Worth considering if its published phone-switching controls matter to you. | Carsifi requires wired Android Auto support. Its compatibility statements are manufacturer claims, not independently confirmed universal compatibility. |
Compare the adapters against your actual needs: wired Android Auto eligibility, your phone’s Android version, vehicle-specific exceptions, multi-phone controls, radio specifications, and the warranty terms for the seller you plan to use. A radio specification alone does not show that one adapter connects faster or more reliably than another.
Check phone requirements and vehicle caveats
Phone support varies by product. Motorola says most phones shipped with Android 11 work with MA1; Carsifi says Android 9 and newer work out of the box. Those are vendor claims, not a guarantee for every phone or vehicle combination. Check the current requirements from Google and your phone manufacturer as well as the adapter maker’s compatibility information.

- Compatible with wired-only Android Auto systems
- Requires Android 11+
- Multifunctional button for easy phone pairing and switching
- Connects unlimited phones, perfect for road trips
- Plug & play setup, no tech skills needed
Vehicle implementation can matter even when wired Android Auto works. Motorola’s MA1 page specifically calls out Mitsubishi Motors as a known incompatibility and notes that automakers implement the system differently. Treat compatibility claims as a shortlist, not a promise that every trim, head unit or software version will work.
Set up the adapter while parked
- Confirm the basics: Check that the vehicle and phone are compatible, wired Android Auto works over USB, and the phone has mobile data service.
- Prepare the phone: Turn on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location Services. Google Android Auto Help says, “For best results, keep your phone’s Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services turned on while you complete the setup.”
- Prepare the car: Put the vehicle in Park and turn on its infotainment system before starting wireless setup.
- Follow the adapter’s pairing instructions: Wireless adapters use Bluetooth during setup; AAWireless says it exchanges credentials over Bluetooth before operating over Wi-Fi.
These setup recommendations come from Google Android Auto Help and the cited adapter pages. Motorola’s additional setup guidance is specific to MA1: check for Android Auto updates and confirm Wireless Android Auto is enabled in the phone’s settings.

- Important Compatibility Check - PLEASE READ: This adapter is ONLY compatible with cars equipped with Factory Wired CarPlay or Android Auto (Model Years 2016-2025). ❌ NOT compatible with BMW, Tesla, or vehicles without a wired system. For Android Users: Requires a phone running Android 11 or later with "Wireless Android Auto" enabled. Includes USB-A to USB-C adapter for wider port compatibility.
Troubleshoot the connection without guessing
- Android Auto never starts: Recheck the wired connection by plugging the phone directly into the vehicle USB port. If wired Android Auto does not start, the adapter cannot supply the missing capability.
- Pairing or wireless setup stalls: Confirm Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location Services are enabled, mobile data is available, and setup is being done with the car in Park and infotainment on, as Google recommends.
- MA1 will not connect: Motorola’s support directions advise checking Android Auto updates and ensuring Wireless Android Auto is enabled in phone settings. These steps are MA1-specific guidance, not a universal fix for every adapter.
- Hands-free calling does not reconnect as expected: Motorola says the phone typically needs to re-establish its Bluetooth connection to the vehicle for hands-free calling when using MA1.
- MA1 disconnects near a toll point: Motorola says 5 GHz wireless projection can disconnect around some e-toll gates. This is a stated MA1 caveat, not evidence that every adapter or toll location behaves the same way.
What the published information cannot tell you
The manufacturer and Google pages cited here provide setup instructions, compatibility statements and hardware specifications. They do not provide comparable independent measurements of speed, latency, connection reliability or market share. Choose based on eligibility, phone and vehicle caveats, controls and warranty terms rather than treating Wi-Fi band or Bluetooth version as a performance ranking.
