Best Wired Headphone Options for Android: USB-C, 3.5mm, and Adapters

Android phones can use wired audio over USB-C or a 3.5 mm headset jack. Learn when to choose USB-C headphones, when a DAC adapter is needed, and what to check for microphone and button support.

The best wired headphones for an Android phone depend first on its ports: use a 3.5 mm headset if it has a headphone jack, a USB-C headset if you want a direct connection, or keep your 3.5 mm headphones with a USB-C adapter that includes a DAC. Before buying, check support for your exact phone and whether you need a microphone or inline controls.

Which wired connection works with your Android phone?

Android supports wired audio through a 3.5 mm headset jack or a USB connection, but manufacturers do not give every phone the same ports. The Android platform documentation describes support for audio over a wired 3.5 mm jack and USB, as well as Bluetooth (Android audio and peripherals documentation).

  • Your phone has a 3.5 mm jack: A compatible 3.5 mm headset can plug in directly.
  • Your phone has USB-C but no headphone jack: Use USB-C headphones or connect a 3.5 mm headset through a compatible USB-C-to-3.5 mm DAC adapter.
  • Your phone has both: Either connection may work; choose based on the headphones and controls you want, and verify compatibility if using an adapter.

For example, Samsung says the Galaxy S25 family does not have a traditional 3.5 mm jack, so using 3.5 mm headphones with those phones requires a USB-C adapter (Samsung Galaxy S25 audio FAQ). That is specific to the S25 family, not a rule for all Android phones; check your own model’s specifications.

Can you use 3.5 mm headphones with a USB-C Android phone?

Yes. You need a USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter that converts digital audio to analog. Android’s adapter specification says, “Only digital-to-analog adapters are allowed,” and describes support for stereo output, optional microphone input, headset detection, and translation of headset button presses into input events (Android USB-C audio adapter specification).

#1 Best Overall
Apple USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter | USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter with white finish for audio, music and calls
  • The USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter lets you connect devices that use a standard 3.5mm audio plug - like headphones or speakers - to your USB-C devices
  • Works with all devices that have a USB-C connector and support iOS 10 or later.

Do not assume a passive adapter—one that does not perform digital-to-analog conversion—will work with an Android phone. When comparing adapters, look for an explicit DAC or digital-to-analog conversion description, and check that the product supports the features you need, particularly microphone input and inline buttons.

Compare the three wired options

Option What you need Advantages Check before choosing
3.5 mm headset A phone with a 3.5 mm headset jack, or a compatible USB-C DAC adapter Can plug directly into phones with a jack; gives you more choice of 3.5 mm headphones Whether your phone has a jack; adapter compatibility if it does not; microphone and remote support
USB-C headphones A compatible USB-C audio port Direct connection without carrying a separate adapter Whether the specific phone supports the headset and its microphone and buttons
3.5 mm headphones plus USB-C DAC adapter A compatible USB-C phone and an adapter with digital-to-analog conversion Lets you keep using existing 3.5 mm headphones with a phone that lacks a jack DAC support, microphone input, headset detection, and inline-control compatibility

A connector alone does not establish sound quality. The headphones, playback device, and audio source all matter; TechRadar likewise cautions against treating USB-C or 3.5 mm as an automatic sound-quality advantage (TechRadar’s wired headphone guide).

What to check before buying

  • Exact phone compatibility: Confirm the port and audio support for your handset rather than relying on the Android brand or USB-C connector alone.
  • Microphone and controls: If you make calls or use play, pause, or volume buttons, verify those functions for the specific phone-and-headphone combination.
  • Comfort and fit: Choose a shape you can wear comfortably for the time you expect to listen.
  • Cable and isolation: Consider cable durability, tangling, cable noise, and how much outside sound you want to hear.
  • Adapter burden: A direct USB-C headset avoids a separate adapter; a DAC adapter lets you use existing or preferred 3.5 mm headphones.
  • USB-C audio hardware: For a USB-C model, check whether the headset includes its own digital audio hardware and whether your phone supports its features.

Named wired headphone examples

TechRadar’s roundup, updated 1 September 2026, names the House of Marley Smile Jamaica USB-C as a cheaper USB-C wired-earbud pick and the 1MORE Triple Driver In-Ear Earphones as its wired-earbud pick for most people. The publication says it evaluated sound, comfort, cable design, cable noise, and noise isolation; those are its reported editorial assessments, not a guarantee that either model will suit every listener (TechRadar’s wired headphone guide).

How to choose

  1. Check your phone’s ports. Look up the exact model’s specifications or support page to see whether it has a 3.5 mm jack and how it handles USB-C audio.
  2. Choose the connection. Use a 3.5 mm headset for a direct jack connection, USB-C headphones to avoid a separate adapter, or your 3.5 mm headphones with a USB-C DAC adapter.
  3. Verify call and control features. Confirm microphone and inline-button support for the exact combination you plan to use.
  4. Compare the headphones themselves. Consider comfort, fit, cable construction, isolation, and sound rather than assuming the connector determines quality.
