OBS Studio is the best starting point for a Windows-based 24/7 4K 60fps YouTube Live setup if you need local control over scenes and encoding. YouTube lists OBS in its verified encoder directory, but neither OBS nor any other encoder can guarantee uninterrupted operation: the PC, encoder workload, upload connection, power, Windows behavior, monitoring and recovery plan all matter. For prerecorded videos that should loop without an always-on PC, a cloud playout service may fit better. StreamNeo is one option: it runs uploaded videos on YouTube from the cloud, with one flat price per slot for any quality up to 4K 60fps and a free first day.
Which Windows software should you choose?
| Option | Best fit | What the available evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio | Windows operators who want local scene and encoder control, including live cameras, games, events or other changing sources. | YouTube includes OBS in its verified encoder directory. OBS publishes Windows requirements, but warns that meeting them does not guarantee a system can handle a given stream. YouTube’s encoder directory · OBS system requirements |
| Streamlabs Desktop | Creators who prefer guided setup and integrated creator features. | Its published requirements make it a relevant Windows alternative. The cited material does not establish that it is more reliable than OBS for unattended 24/7 streaming. Streamlabs system requirements |
| StreamNeo | Uploaded videos or playlists that should play continuously on YouTube without a Windows PC staying on. | StreamNeo runs prerecorded uploads in the cloud. It is not a camera or live-event encoder; see the cloud option below. StreamNeo |
| Gyre | Prerecorded continuous playout managed in the cloud. | YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded streams, including Full HD and 4K at 30/60 FPS. That listing does not establish independent uptime, pricing or suitability for arbitrary live sources. YouTube’s encoder directory |
For a local Windows workflow, start with OBS and validate your actual workload rather than choosing software based on a promise of continuous uptime. If the source is a camera, game or live event, local encoding gives you control of the live input; a prerecorded-video playout service is a different category.

What does YouTube require for 4K 60fps?
YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265 or AV1 video, up to 60 frames per second, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Use the codec that your encoder and PC can produce reliably, and confirm that the encoder’s output resolution and frame rate are actually 2160p and 60fps. |---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
| H.264 | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s encoder-ingest figures, not a guarantee that a connection with the same nominal upload speed will hold a stable stream. Leave upload headroom for network variation and other traffic, then test the real connection and stream route. If you choose a higher bitrate than the recommended figure, ensure the encoder and available sustained upload can support it; do not treat the listed minimum as a sensible target for a demanding continuous stream.

Latency and audio
YouTube says its low-latency optimization is unavailable for 4K/2160p; 4K is optimized for quality at normal latency. For stereo audio, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends 128 Kbps; its advanced settings list 44.1 kHz stereo. YouTube encoder settings
Can a Windows PC run OBS 24/7 at 4K60?
Possibly, but there is no universal minimum PC specification that proves a machine can encode every 4K60 scene continuously. OBS lists Windows 10 or 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU among its basic requirements, then cautions: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” OBS says workload depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. Streamlabs Desktop’s requirements page, last updated April 8, 2026, lists Windows 11 and 8 GB RAM minimum, and recommends 16 GB or more with stronger CPU/GPU and SSD resources. Those requirements likewise do not certify a computer for continuous 4K60. Streamlabs system requirements
- For a static prerecorded scene, the encoding workload may differ substantially from a scene with multiple animated sources, filters, transitions, browser overlays or fast-moving game footage.
- Hardware encoding can reduce CPU workload when supported, but the cited requirements do not specify a universal encoder or GPU that guarantees 4K60.
- Consider the full continuous-running system: sustained encoding, stable upload, cooling, power, operating-system behavior, monitoring and a recovery plan. These are operational factors, not a published guarantee from an encoder vendor.
Set up and test a local YouTube stream
- Create or configure the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Open the stream settings, copy the stream URL and key into your encoder, and keep the key private. YouTube’s settings include options such as DVR, auto-start and auto-stop. Reset the key if it is exposed or compromised. YouTube: Manage your live stream settings
- Select ingest and output settings. Choose RTMPS where available, configure CBR, set a two-second keyframe interval, and select the codec and bitrate appropriate to your encoder. For 2160p60, use YouTube’s codec-specific recommended bitrate values above as a starting reference, not as a connection-speed guarantee.
- Match resolution and frame rate. Set the encoder output to 3840 × 2160 at 60fps if that is the intended stream. YouTube says its default is to detect resolution and frame rate; manual selection is available with a custom stream key. Check both the encoder output and YouTube’s preview rather than assuming the source file’s settings determine the live output.
- Configure audio. For stereo, use AAC or MP3; YouTube recommends 128 Kbps and lists 44.1 kHz stereo in advanced settings.
- Run a representative private or unlisted test. Include movement and audio similar to the real broadcast. Inspect the Live Control Room preview, stream health and messages, and verify playback on the devices your audience uses. YouTube specifically recommends testing before going live and monitoring the stream. YouTube encoder settings · YouTube live streaming tips
- Exercise recovery before relying on unattended operation. YouTube recommends testing failover for encoder workflows. Check what happens if the encoder, PC or connection drops, and establish how you will detect and restore the stream.
Keep a 24/7 channel stable and compliant
Continuous streaming is a system operation, not just an encoder setting. An ordinary successful test establishes that the setup worked under those test conditions; it does not prove long-run reliability. Monitor stream health and audio/video quality, and plan how you will respond to a dropped stream, power interruption, Windows restart or loss of upload. The cited vendor and platform materials do not supply a controlled long-duration comparison showing that OBS or Streamlabs is inherently more reliable.

- Test the real content. YouTube recommends audio and video movement similar to what the actual broadcast will contain; static menus or a brief idle test may not represent a demanding scene.
- Check rights before looping content. Use content you own or are authorized to broadcast, including music and embedded material. A stream that stays technically online can still be interrupted or restricted if it violates copyright or YouTube policies.
- Consider the audience and originality of a continuous channel. A live stream’s technical availability does not by itself establish eligibility for monetization or compliance with YouTube’s reused-content and other channel policies. Review current YouTube policy for the specific content and channel rather than assuming that looping footage is automatically acceptable.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password; do not put it in a public recording, screenshot or shared configuration. Reset it through YouTube’s stream settings if necessary.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your channel plays prerecorded videos or playlists rather than a live camera or event, StreamNeo can keep that YouTube stream running without a home computer, OBS or home connection staying on:
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded content from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home; there is automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. What does a local 24/7 setup cost in practice?
OBS Studio is software, but a reliable local channel also depends on the Windows PC and its sustained encoding headroom, internet service, power and the time required to monitor and recover it. The cited sources do not establish a representative hardware budget, electricity cost or long-run reliability figure, so a meaningful total depends on equipment you already own and your local rates. Compare those ongoing costs with a cloud playout service only if your source is prerecorded content; camera and event streams require a workflow that supports a live input.
