A band that mainly needs a press kit, show dates, and a way for fans to sign up has different needs from an artist who sells vinyl and merch directly. Start by listing those jobs, then compare builders on them. Wix, Bandzoogle, Squarespace, Music Glue, and WordPress each suit a different mix of jobs, and no single one wins for every musician.
This guide compares the builders using vendors’ published feature descriptions and independent coverage, not hands-on trials. Plan names, prices, and transaction terms change often, so confirm them on each provider’s current pricing page before you subscribe.

Do musicians still need a website?
Social profiles are good for discovery, but they are rented space. Show dates, a press kit, booking contact details, and a mailing-list form all need a place that stays put when a platform changes its rules. Bandzoogle’s vendor guide makes the case this way: “Social media platforms come and go, but your fans and the industry will always be able to find you at your official website address.” That is the company’s own position, not an independently proven guarantee, but the practical point is sound: a site you own is the one place you control the address, the content, and the contact list.

The five jobs a musician site has to do
Before comparing features, decide which of these jobs matter to you. Most builders handle the first two well. The last two are where plans and fees start to differ.
#1 Best Overall
- Create a mix using audio, music and voice tracks and recordings.
- Customize your tracks with amazing effects and helpful editing tools.
- Use tools like the Beat Maker and Midi Creator.
- Work efficiently by using Bookmarks and tools like Effect Chain, which allow you to apply multiple effects at a time
- Use one of the many other NCH multimedia applications that are integrated with MixPad.
- Showcase music and visuals. A player for your tracks, embedded streams, photos, and video, presented well on phones.
- Publish show information. A tour or gig calendar, ticket links, and event promotion.
- Capture fan contacts. Sign-up forms and email tools that you can export or use for campaigns.
- Provide booking and press information. A contact or booking form, an electronic press kit (EPK), and clear licensing contacts.
- Sell music, tickets, or merchandise. Optional, but if you sell directly, the commission and fee structure matters as much as the design.

Builder by builder
Wix
Wix is a general website builder with a music layer. Its musician page lists Wix Music, SoundCloud and Spotify players, electronic press kit creation, event promotion integrations, email and subscriber tools, contact forms, social features, and a merchandise store. Its comparison guide adds drag-and-drop editing, music-oriented templates, Wix Events, SEO and marketing tools, blogging, and hosting. It fits a musician who wants one tool for the website, the mailing list, and light selling, and who is comfortable with a general builder rather than a music-only one. Check which features your plan includes before relying on them.
Rank #2
- Mix an audio, music and voice tracks
- Record single or multiple tracks simultaneously
- Intuitive tools to split, trim, join, and many other editing features
- Loaded with audio effects including EQ, compression, reverb, and more.
- Load an audio file and export to all popular audio formats from studio quality wav to high compression formats
Bandzoogle
Bandzoogle is the most specialized option in this group. Its own guide walks through choosing a musician template, building pages, setting up music and merchandise sales, adding an EPK, connecting a domain, and handling basic SEO. MusicRadar describes it as purpose-built for musicians and reports commission-free ecommerce and mailing-list support. Choose it when a ready-made music-site workflow matters more to you than unlimited layout freedom. The sales claims come from the vendor and from MusicRadar, so confirm the current commission and payment terms on the pricing page.
Recommended Free Tools
Squarespace
Squarespace is the choice for a musician who puts visual design first and wants a conventional site with a blog, a booking option, and marketing tools. MusicRadar notes its appointment booking and marketing and email features. Site Builder Report describes fan mailing-list forms, email marketing, social integration, and blogging. Music-specific features such as dedicated players or ticketing are not established in these sources, so it is not a feature-for-feature match for a music-specialist builder.
Rank #3
- Full-featured professional audio and music editor that lets you record and edit music, voice and other audio recordings
- Add effects like echo, amplification, noise reduction, normalize, equalizer, envelope, reverb, echo, reverse and more
- Supports all popular audio formats including, wav, mp3, vox, gsm, wma, real audio, au, aif, flac, ogg and more
- Sound editing functions include cut, copy, paste, delete, insert, silence, auto-trim and more
- Integrated VST plugin support gives professionals access to thousands of additional tools and effects
Music Glue
Music Glue is built around selling. Wix’s comparison describes it as focused on music and merchandise e-commerce, with marketing and print-on-demand services. MusicRadar calls it sales-focused and covers tickets, music, and print-on-demand merchandise. It makes sense when the storefront is the main job. Because it is a commerce platform rather than an all-purpose site builder, plan it alongside a separate site for press, bio, and contact details if you need them.
WordPress
WordPress is an open-source platform that MusicRadar describes as strongly customizable through code or plugins. It suits a musician who wants full control and is willing to manage plugins, updates, and hosting. Hosting providers, plugin choices, and maintenance costs vary and are not covered here, so budget for them separately from any builder subscription.
Rank #4
- Transform audio playing via your speakers and headphones
- Improve sound quality by adjusting it with effects
- Take control over the sound playing through audio hardware
Other specialist options
Wix’s comparison also lists BandVista, which offers musician-oriented templates, a music player, and video embedding, and Tunebud, which offers music-oriented components and digital sales or subscriptions. Both are worth a look if the main builders above do not fit, but confirm that each is still active and check its current plans before you commit.
Sales terms: what “commission-free” does and does not mean
Selling directly is where musicians most often misread the cost. MusicRadar’s coverage makes three points that apply across builders:
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Easily cross fade between tracks, apply real-time pitch and tempo adjustment
- Auto-play mode for hands-free, seamless music mixing
- Supports mp3, wav and all other popular audio formats
- Automatic beat detection and beat synchronization between the decks
- Apply effects in real-time, including all popular effects like distortion and reverb
- Commission-free is plan-dependent. For Wix, MusicRadar says commission-free selling requires more than the cheapest subscription.
- Payment processing still costs money. MusicRadar notes that payment-processing fees apply even where a platform takes no commission.
- Bandzoogle is described as taking no commission. That is MusicRadar’s description; confirm the current terms before you price a store around it.
Checklist before you subscribe
- Confirm which plan includes the store, ticketing, or email features you need.
- Find the current subscription price and billing period on the provider’s pricing page. The sources reviewed do not state prices, and they change.
- Check the commission, if any, and the payment-processing fee on each sale.
- Check whether a domain is included, and what it costs if it is billed separately.
- Test the mailing-list export: you should be able to take your fan list with you if you switch later.
- Confirm integrations for event listings, such as Bandsintown or Songkick, on your current plan.
