If you need to transfer without internet or cloud storage, use a compatible external drive as a relay. Quick Share and AirDrop are not documented as direct sharing routes between these two platforms.
Choose a transfer method

There is no supported speed comparison for these methods. Choose based on internet access, file size, privacy, whether the transfer is occasional or repeated, and whether your hardware is compatible.

Use Google Drive for the easiest general-purpose transfer
Drive works in both directions if you can access the internet and sign in to the same Google account on the iPhone and Chromebook. Google says Drive accepts documents, images, audio, and video; uploaded files use Drive storage. See Google’s iPhone and iPad upload instructions.

- On the iPhone, open the Google Drive app. Tap Add, then File upload.
- Select the file or files. Choose an upload location if prompted, then tap Upload.
- On the Chromebook, sign in to the same Google account. Open the Files app, select Google Drive, and find the uploaded file. Google’s Chromebook file instructions explain how to open and manage Drive files.
Move files from Chromebook to iPhone
- On the Chromebook, open drive.google.com, select New > File upload, and choose the file. You can also drag a file into a Drive folder. See Google’s computer upload instructions.
- On the iPhone, open Drive and find the file. Tap its More menu.
- Choose the destination that fits the file: Download, Open in > Save to Files, or, for an image or video, Send a copy > Save image or Save video. Google’s iPhone and iPad download instructions cover the available actions.
For private files, verify which Google account you are using and review the file’s sharing settings before creating or sending a link. A link shared too broadly can give access to people beyond the intended recipient; see Google’s Drive sharing guidance.

Transfer offline with external storage
An external drive can act as a relay: copy the file from the iPhone to the drive, safely eject it, connect it to the Chromebook, then copy the file to the Chromebook or another destination. Apple’s iPhone storage-device and file-transfer guide covers external storage and other transfer destinations. For USB-C iPhone models, Apple says an external drive can be formatted as APFS, ExFAT, or MS-DOS (FAT).
Chromebooks support a range of external-drive formats, including FAT, FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, and NTFS; some supported formats are read-only. Check Google’s Chromebook external-device and file-type guidance before choosing a drive.

- Check the iPhone model and connector, and whether you need a compatible adapter or USB-C drive.
- Confirm that the drive works with both devices and uses a format both can access for the actions you need. A format that is read-only on the Chromebook will not work for copying files onto it.
- Safely eject the drive before disconnecting it.
A USB-C flash drive may be convenient for a USB-C iPhone, but it is not a universal solution: connector and format compatibility depend on the iPhone, Chromebook, and drive.

Other options for occasional transfers
Another cloud service or a file server
Apple lists iCloud, Box, and Dropbox as cloud-storage examples and also documents connecting to a file server. If you can access the same cloud service or server from both devices, it can bridge them. Apple’s transfer guide describes these options. The available storage, setup, and terms depend on the service; no single option is established here as the best choice.

Email or Messages
For one document or image, sending it as an attachment through Mail or Messages may be enough. Apple documents these options in its guide to transferring files between iPhone and other devices. Check the limits and settings for your email provider or messaging service; there is no universal attachment-size limit.

Google’s Chromebook Quick Share guidance describes sharing with nearby Android and Chromebook devices and lists ChromeOS 91 or later and Android 6.0 or later requirements. It does not list iPhone as a supported sharing peer. Apple’s AirDrop guidance covers nearby Apple devices, not a direct Chromebook-to-iPhone transfer. Use Drive, another service, external storage, or an attachment instead of relying on Quick Share or AirDrop across these platforms. The official instructions cited here do not establish a universal direct USB-cable workflow between an iPhone and a Chromebook. For a transfer that does not use cloud storage, external storage is the documented alternative; check your iPhone model, connector, and drive compatibility first.
