DraftKings could be a long-term growth investment if it can keep customers engaged, expand where it is legally permitted, and convert revenue growth into durable earnings and cash flow. That outcome is not established: first-half 2026 revenue increased year over year, but the company swung from a net profit to a net loss. Whether DKNG is attractive also depends on the price paid, regulatory and competitive risks, and the company’s governance structure. This is an analytical framework, not individualized investment advice.
What does DraftKings do, and where can it grow?
DraftKings Inc. is a digital sports entertainment and gaming company. Its products include mobile sports betting, iGaming (online casino), daily fantasy sports, lottery products, and prediction markets. Its 2025 Form 10-K identifies Sportsbook and iGaming as its principal revenue engines. The business must attract and retain customers, encourage them to use multiple offerings, and operate at attractive economics after gaming taxes, promotions, payment processing, and marketing.

In its August 2026 Q2 results release, DraftKings reported mobile sports betting was live in 27 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, representing approximately 53% of the U.S. population. Its iGaming offering was live in five states, representing approximately 11%. These are company-reported figures for those products and jurisdictions at that time; laws, licenses, and market access can change.
In March 2026, management described a $55 billion to $80 billion 2030 industry gross-revenue opportunity, including expansion of sportsbook and casino markets and DraftKings Predictions. It also announced plans for an integrated “DraftKings Sports & Casino” super app. The market-size range is management’s estimate, not realized DraftKings revenue or a guaranteed return to shareholders. The app and Predictions are growth initiatives, not proof that the company will capture the opportunity profitably.

Is DraftKings profitable?
The answer depends on the period and measure. DraftKings reported a narrow GAAP profit for fiscal 2025 after a large loss in 2024, but the first half of 2026 returned to a net loss. Revenue growth by itself does not show whether the business is improving its economics.
| Period and source | Revenue | GAAP net income (loss) | Other reported result |
|---|---|---|---|
| FY2024, DraftKings 2026 Form 10-K | $4.8 billion | $(507.3) million | — |
| FY2025, DraftKings 2026 Form 10-K | $6.1 billion, up 27.0% from 2024; Sportsbook and iGaming revenue was $5.6 billion, up 27.7% | $3.7 million | — |
| Six months ended June 30, 2025, DraftKings Q2 2026 Form 10-Q | $2.921 billion | $124.1 million | — |
| Six months ended June 30, 2026, DraftKings Q2 2026 Form 10-Q | $3.089 billion, up 5.8% year over year | $(46.5) million | — |
| Q2 2025, DraftKings August 2026 results release | $1.513 billion | $157.9 million | Adjusted EBITDA: $300.6 million |
| Q2 2026, DraftKings August 2026 results release | $1.443 billion | $(67.6) million | Adjusted EBITDA: $114.6 million |
Adjusted EBITDA is a non-GAAP measure, not a substitute for GAAP earnings or cash flow. DraftKings says its calculation excludes items including stock-based compensation, litigation and advocacy-related costs, depreciation and amortization, interest, and taxes. Investors should read the company’s reconciliation to GAAP results when evaluating the headline figure.

What to watch in costs and margins
In the first half of 2026, cost of revenue rose 8.4%, faster than revenue’s 5.8% increase, and sales and marketing expense rose 25.6%. Cost of revenue was 59.6% of revenue, compared with 58.1% in the first half of 2025. DraftKings cited gaming taxes, platform costs, promotional reinvestment, customer acquisition, and major sports events among the drivers. These figures make the central operating question whether scale can improve margins and control expenses, rather than whether customers are simply spending more.
Can DraftKings fund growth and meet its obligations?
At June 30, 2026, DraftKings reported $983.9 million in cash and cash equivalents, excluding restricted cash and funds reserved for users. It also reported approximately $1.260 billion of net convertible notes, which mature in March 2028, subject to earlier conversion, redemption, or repurchase. Management said it believed cash on hand would cover current working-capital and capital-expenditure needs for at least twelve months. That is a company assessment made at a point in time, not a guarantee about future financing conditions.
For a long-term investment case, track operating cash flow alongside GAAP earnings and adjusted EBITDA. Also watch how the company handles debt repayment or refinancing, share-count changes and dilution, stock-based compensation, and any share repurchases. Expansion that requires sustained investment may benefit the business, but its value to shareholders depends on the returns generated relative to that spending.
What is management forecasting?
In its August 2026 Q2 results release, DraftKings maintained its FY2026 guidance:
Rank #4
| FY2026 measure | Company guidance as of August 2026 | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $6.5 billion to $6.9 billion | Forward-looking management range |
| Adjusted EBITDA | $700 million to $900 million | Non-GAAP measure, not GAAP net income |
The company’s February guidance release said the ranges assumed state tax rates remained at current levels and excluded potential variance from sports outcomes. The August release retained the ranges, so they represent management’s outlook at that time, not an independently verified forecast. CFO Alan Ellingson said, “Our core business remains on track to generate approximately $1 billion of Adjusted EBITDA this year, providing us with financial flexibility to invest behind the significant opportunity that we are seeing in Predictions.” That is a company statement about an adjusted measure and a planned investment, not confirmation of GAAP profitability or the investment’s eventual returns.

Is DKNG stock attractively valued?
A strong business and an attractive stock are different propositions. Valuation asks how much future growth and profitability the current share price already assumes, and how much room remains for disappointing results.
Best Value
At the October 6, 2026 close, Stock Analysis listed DKNG at $19.75 per share, a $9.80 billion market capitalization, and a $10.74 billion enterprise value. Its page showed a 1.57 price-to-sales ratio and a 37.12 forward P/E; trailing P/E was unavailable because trailing earnings were negative. These are time-sensitive third-party calculations, not fixed company facts, and change with the share price and reported results.
Because trailing earnings were negative in that snapshot, sales multiples and forward earnings estimates deserve particular scrutiny. Consider enterprise value relative to sales, the assumptions behind forward earnings, expected cash generation, and how the price would look under slower growth or lower margins. Analyst targets or broad market consensus alone do not establish fair value.

- Regulation, market access, and taxes: Growth depends on laws, licenses, and operating permissions in each jurisdiction. Higher tax rates can pressure margins; the company’s guidance assumed state tax rates remained consistent with current levels.
- Competition and customer-acquisition costs: DraftKings competes with established gaming businesses and other entertainment options. Its 2026 filing also identifies competition in emerging prediction markets. Promotions and marketing can help acquire users while reducing current margins.
- Sports-outcome variability: Betting outcomes can cause revenue and profitability to fluctuate between periods. The company cautions that historical results are not necessarily indicative of future performance.
- Prediction-market uncertainty: DraftKings warns that expansion in prediction markets can involve heightened legal, regulatory, compliance, reputational, and operational risks, as well as significant investment.
- Execution and spending: The super app, Predictions, and launches in new markets may broaden reach, but could require sustained technology, marketing, compliance, and promotional spending before producing attractive returns.
- Governance and volatility: DraftKings’ dual-class structure concentrates voting power with its CEO and chairman, limiting other shareholders’ influence over important decisions. The 2025 Form 10-K warns: “The trading price of our Class A common stock has been, and will likely continue to be, volatile, and you could lose all or part of your investment.”
