Use an iPhone or iPad while you look for a replacement
For Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD, an iPhone or iPad can act as a temporary remote from Control Centre. This lets you navigate Apple TV without first buying another physical remote. Apple’s support page explains how to access Apple TV Remote in Control Centre: If you’ve lost your Apple TV Remote.

This phone-control option is separate from the Find feature. Apple’s stated iOS 17 and tvOS 17 requirements apply to locating an eligible physical remote, not to using Control Centre as a general temporary controller.
Try to find the physical remote with your iPhone
Apple says an iPhone can locate a Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote (2nd generation or later) when the iPhone runs iOS 17 or later and the Apple TV runs tvOS 17 or later. Open Control Centre, tap Apple TV Remote, select the device list, then tap Find beside the remote. An on-screen circle and proximity text guide you, changing from “far” to “near” to “here.” The feature is not specified for earlier remotes.

Check your Apple TV generation before buying
Remote compatibility depends on the Apple TV model. Check the model in Apple TV settings or identify the device before ordering; do not assume every remote sold as an Apple TV remote works with every generation.

Apple says replacements are available through the Apple Online Store, an Apple Store, or another retailer. The current US listing for the Siri Remote (3rd generation) was $59 when checked on October 3, 2026; price and availability may differ by region or change. Apple lists it for Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K (1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations). It charges via USB-C; the charge cable is sold separately.

Pair a replacement remote
Apple’s user guide says a remote pairs with one Apple TV at a time. For the current Apple TV Remote, bring it within 3–4 inches (8–10 cm) of Apple TV, then hold Back and Volume Up for two seconds. Apple TV displays a confirmation when pairing succeeds. You can use the remote while it charges. See the Apple TV Remote User Guide for the pairing instructions.

If the remote is damaged or malfunctioning
Do not open the remote or attempt to replace its rechargeable battery yourself. Apple advises that battery service or removal be handled by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Contact Apple or an authorized provider if the remote is damaged, malfunctions, or has been exposed to liquid. Apple also notes network-based remotes as an option, but its support page does not validate a particular third-party model; check compatibility for your exact Apple TV before relying on one.
