On the A380, both Qantas and Emirates offer 14 First Class suites, lie-flat beds and a shared upper-deck lounge. The clearest practical difference is that Emirates advertises an onboard First Class Shower Spa, while Qantas highlights companion dining in the suite and pre-flight spa treatments at Sydney and Melbourne. Neither airline’s published details prove an overall winner: the better fit depends on which features matter to you and what is operating on your specific flight.
What is the clearest difference between Qantas and Emirates A380 First?
The products overlap in several basics but emphasize different parts of the journey. Qantas describes an upgraded cabin with refurbished suites, Sheridan bedding, Neil Perry-designed à la carte dining and an upper-deck lounge shared by First and Business passengers. Emirates describes private suites with closing doors, dining on demand, an onboard lounge and a First Class Shower Spa.

How do the suites and privacy features compare?
Qantas: refurbished suites and cabin details
Qantas’s upgraded A380 factsheet lists 14 refurbished First Suites and describes new cushioning, a brighter colour scheme, an 18-inch entertainment screen and high-powered USB and power outlets. Its First product flyer describes an expansive armchair, in-seat massage and controls for entertainment and lighting. These details describe the upgraded A380 product; check that the aircraft assigned to your flight has that configuration.

Emirates: doors and a specified layout
Emirates’s 14 May 2025 announcement specifies 14 flat-bed suites on the upper deck in a 1-2-1 arrangement, with automatic doors. Its A380 product page also describes private suites with closing doors and ambient lighting. That gives Emirates a clearly stated door feature in the cited materials; it does not establish that its suite is larger or more comfortable than Qantas’s.
What do the airlines offer for sleeping?
Qantas names Sheridan bedding, a pillow menu and a memory-foam mattress. Emirates describes a mattress, pillow and duvet with its fully flat bed. The published descriptions make it possible to compare the listed components, but not to determine which bed will feel better to you. Personal preference, sleep position and the specific flight experience all matter; no independent head-to-head comfort measurement is established by these product sources.

How do dining and service differ?
Qantas: à la carte and companion dining
Qantas says its international First menu is à la carte, designed by Neil Perry and made to order. Its flyer also lists complimentary snacks and light meals at any time, and says a passenger can dine with a companion in the First Suite. The menu available can depend on the route.
Emirates: dining on demand and caviar
Emirates describes personal dining and on-demand menu service. In a release dated 14 May 2025, it announced unlimited caviar in First Class, alongside changes such as caviar bowls and gloved service. Treat these as Emirates’s published service descriptions, not a guarantee of a particular menu or service on every departure; check current details for the flight if a specific item matters to you.

Which airline has an onboard shower and shared lounge?
Emirates has the A380 Shower Spa
Emirates lists a First Class Shower Spa on the A380, and its 2025 announcement refers to two First Class Shower Spas on the aircraft. Its product page qualifies availability by route, aircraft type, model and configuration and warns that operational requirements can lead to last-minute aircraft changes. Do not assume the shower will be available without confirming the aircraft assigned to your itinerary.
Qantas’s cited spa treatments are on the ground
Qantas’s First flyer lists complimentary LaGaia spa treatments in Sydney and Melbourne, subject to the locations and services specified in its flyer. These are pre-flight airport treatments, not an onboard shower. The flyer also lists priority boarding and lounge access; confirm eligibility and availability for your departure airport.

Both airlines list a shared onboard lounge
Qantas describes an upper-deck lounge for First and Business passengers, with booth seating for up to 10. Emirates describes an upper-deck Onboard Lounge also shared by First and Business passengers. A shared lounge may be valuable if you want to move around or socialize, but neither airline’s description establishes how busy it will be on a particular flight.
What should you check before booking?
- Confirm the aircraft and cabin configuration. Check the aircraft shown for the exact flight and verify it again before departure. Qantas’s cited details apply to its upgraded A380; Emirates explicitly says features depend on route, aircraft type, model and configuration, and operational changes can affect the aircraft.
- Verify the feature you care about. If an onboard shower is decisive, confirm the A380 and its configuration rather than relying on a general Emirates First Class description. If you want a Qantas spa treatment, check that it is offered at your departure airport and that your itinerary qualifies.
- Compare the full itinerary. Departure time, connection, airport lounge and ground-service eligibility can change the practical value of an otherwise appealing cabin. Emirates lists airport lounge access and chauffeur-drive among First Class benefits, but confirm airport and itinerary eligibility; Qantas lists priority boarding, lounge access and selected spa access in its flyer.
- Compare actual fares or award options. Availability, price, schedule and redemption terms are itinerary-specific. A feature advantage may not justify a less convenient or substantially more expensive trip for your priorities.
Which First Class is better for a long-haul flight?
There is no evidence-based overall winner in the published materials cited here. Emirates has the stronger published case if an onboard shower and suite doors are top priorities. Qantas stands out if you value dining with a companion in the suite, its stated bedding details, or the possibility of a pre-flight spa treatment in Sydney or Melbourne. Both list lie-flat beds and an upper-deck lounge shared with Business passengers.
Best Value
- Officially licensed by the airline
- Die cast metal with plastic parts
- Makes a great souvenir or gift
Make the decision at the flight level: verify the operating aircraft and configuration, then weigh the features, airport arrangements, schedule and price you would actually receive. Product descriptions can establish what an airline says it offers, but they cannot tell you which bed, meal or service you will personally prefer.
