Services such as GeForce NOW run supported games on remote computers and stream them to your phone or tablet. Xbox Cloud Gaming is another no-local-PC option, but it streams supported games from its Xbox catalog rather than acting as a general Windows PC launcher. Check that your specific game is available before choosing a service.
Choose the option that fits your game and setup

For a true no-PC setup, start by checking GeForce NOW or Xbox Cloud Gaming. Availability, supported games, and membership terms vary; check the services’ current official pages for your region before paying.

GeForce NOW: stream supported PC-store games
GeForce NOW is the closer match if you want to play PC games tied to a storefront account. NVIDIA lists Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, EA app, GOG, Epic Games Store, Steam, and Xbox among the connected stores in its GeForce NOW FAQ. That list describes storefront connections, not blanket compatibility: search for your exact game in the current catalog before buying a game or membership for this purpose.
Check Android and connection requirements
NVIDIA’s current GeForce NOW system requirements specify Android 7.0 or later, OpenGL ES 2.0 or higher, and 1 GB of available memory for Android phones and tablets. NVIDIA’s published bandwidth targets are 15 Mbps for HD up to 60 fps, 25 Mbps for FHD at 60 fps, and 35 Mbps for QHD at 120 fps. It recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet and specifies latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center. These are service requirements and recommendations, not guarantees of smooth play; results depend on the connection, distance to a data center, and device support. Higher resolution or frame-rate features may also depend on membership tier.

Pair a controller for longer sessions
NVIDIA lists Xbox and PlayStation controllers among its recommended gamepads. Its Android app also has an on-screen virtual gamepad, but NVIDIA says it does not recommend that option for long-term gameplay. A Bluetooth controller is a practical choice; a compatible phone clip can hold the phone while you play.
Xbox Cloud Gaming: use the supported Xbox catalog
Xbox Cloud Gaming streams supported titles from Microsoft’s Xbox cloud catalog; it does not give Android a Windows desktop or access to every PC game you own. Xbox’s mobile page describes cloud gaming at xbox.com/play. Its December 19, 2025 getting-started guide says Android cloud streaming works through a web browser and lists Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate as eligible memberships. Plans and access terms can change, so check Xbox’s current information for your location.

Xbox says touch controls are available for select games. A controller is not necessary for every title, but it gives you more input options. Do not confuse cloud gaming with Xbox Remote Play: Remote Play streams games installed on your own Xbox console, so it still requires a console.

Steam Link: useful only if you have a host computer
Steam Link streams from a computer running Steam; it does not replace the computer with a cloud server. Valve’s Android Steam Link instructions say the app supports Android 5.0 and newer and requires a computer running Steam. For initial setup, Valve directs users to turn on the host, launch and sign in to Steam, then connect the Android device to the same network.

Valve recommends a 5 GHz wireless router. Its listed supported controllers include Steam Controller, Xbox One S Controller, DualShock 4 on Android 9.0 or newer, and Razer Kishi/Raiju Mobile. Steam Link can be useful if a non-gaming computer can run your game, or if you can access a gaming PC elsewhere, but it is not the choice when no host computer is available.

Set up a cloud-gaming session
- Pick the service by title. Search for your game in GeForce NOW’s catalog, or confirm it appears in the Xbox cloud catalog. Do this before buying a game or subscribing based on an assumption of compatibility.
- Check access in your region. Review the service’s current official page for availability, membership requirements, and catalog terms where you live.
- Check your network and device. For GeForce NOW on Android, compare your device with NVIDIA’s minimums and your connection with its published targets. Prefer stable 5 GHz Wi-Fi when available.
- Install or open the Android access point. Use the GeForce NOW app for GeForce NOW. For Xbox Cloud Gaming, open xbox.com/play in a supported browser, as described in Xbox’s December 2025 guide.
- Sign in and connect accounts as required. GeForce NOW uses supported storefront accounts; Xbox Cloud Gaming requires an eligible membership under the cited December 2025 Xbox guide.
- Choose an input method. Use touch controls where a game supports them, or pair a compatible gamepad for broader control and longer play.
What to check if play is unavailable or feels poor
- The game does not appear: Confirm that the exact title, not just its store, is supported by the service. A game in your library may not be playable through cloud streaming.
- The service or catalog is unavailable: Verify current regional access and membership terms on the provider’s official page; availability can vary and change.
- The stream stutters or looks soft: Check connection stability and latency, and compare available bandwidth with the provider’s guidance. NVIDIA’s targets are not a promise of a particular result on every network.
- Controls are awkward: Check whether the particular Xbox game offers touch controls. Otherwise, pair a compatible controller; NVIDIA specifically cautions against relying on its virtual gamepad for long-term play.
- You are using Steam Link without a PC: Steam Link needs a computer running Steam as its host. Switch to a cloud service if you have no host computer.
