The right route depends on whether you want a subscription catalog, access to games you already own, or a simple way to try games on a screen you have. Each option needs a supported device and a reliable internet connection; some also require a paid plan or compatible controller.
How can you play games without a console?
Cloud gaming runs a game on a remote server and streams its picture and sound to your device. Your controller inputs travel back over the internet. That lets you play without owning a console, but it is not the same as installing a game locally: you need an internet connection, a supported device, and access to the game through a service or account.

Can you play Xbox games on a TV without an Xbox?
Yes, if your TV or streaming device is supported and the game is available to stream in your region and plan. Xbox lists select Samsung smart TVs and monitors, select VIDAA TVs, and specific Fire TV models. Its compatibility page also covers computers, phones, tablets, and other devices. Most games streamed through the Xbox app require an active Game Pass subscription; cloud play is not included with PC Game Pass, and limits vary by plan.
Xbox says you can start with a controller and the Xbox app, but not every controller, TV, or game works with every setup. Check the compatibility list for the exact TV or Fire TV model and confirm your controller is supported. If your TV does not support the app, a compatible Fire TV device may be an option; check the model and software requirements before purchasing one.

Can you play games you already own on another device?
GeForce NOW: stream eligible PC games
GeForce NOW is the clearest choice among these services for streaming supported games from a PC library. You must own or purchase a compatible paid game through a supported store and connect the relevant account; having a game in a store does not guarantee it is eligible. NVIDIA also supports hundreds of free-to-play games. Its FAQ lists over 4,500 supported games, but that figure does not mean every title is playable on every membership, in every region, or at all times.

NVIDIA offers a free membership as well as paid tiers. Device support and performance features differ by membership. On a TV, you need a supported gamepad. Check the game’s store and NVIDIA’s current compatibility information before relying on access to a particular title.

PlayStation Plus Premium: stream eligible PlayStation titles
PlayStation Plus Premium includes cloud streaming for eligible games on supported PlayStation consoles and PC, according to the US catalog and support pages. Not every PlayStation game is streamable, and availability depends on the title and region. Premium is the cloud-streaming tier; PlayStation Plus Extra includes a game-download catalog but not cloud streaming. Check the current catalog for the specific game and device you want to use.
Xbox Cloud Gaming and Luna: use their catalogs
Xbox Cloud Gaming and Luna are primarily catalog-based routes rather than ways to stream any game you already own. Xbox’s available games and features depend on plan, region, and platform. Amazon says more than 60 games are available to Prime members at no additional cost, but that is Amazon’s stated selection as of its September 21, 2026 update—not a permanent guarantee. Luna’s catalog and Prime benefits vary by country.

What devices and internet connection do you need?
Start by checking the official device list for the service you plan to use. A service may support a computer or phone but not your particular TV model. For TV play, also confirm that your controller is supported. A compatible controller is often the only extra hardware needed; an Xbox wireless controller is one searchable product category, but verify compatibility with both your device and chosen service before buying.

A speed test only tells you part of the story. Latency, Wi-Fi stability, household network use, and the route to a service’s data center affect how responsive play feels. If a stream stutters, try Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, reduce competing network activity, and check whether the service offers a lower-resolution setting.
Which option should you choose?
- Choose Xbox Cloud Gaming if you want a console-style subscription catalog and your device, region, and plan support the games you want.
- Choose GeForce NOW if your priority is streaming PC games you already own in supported stores, or trying its free membership.
- Choose PlayStation Plus Premium if you want eligible PlayStation games streamed to a supported PlayStation console or PC and the Premium plan makes sense for you.
- Try Luna if you are a Prime member and want to see whether its current selection works on a compatible device in your country.
Before paying, check the current catalog, your exact device and controller, regional availability, and the plan’s limits. Do not assume a named game is included just because it appears in an older list. Cloud streaming is convenient, but a weak or unstable connection can make fast-action games less responsive than local play.
