Use a playout system to schedule the videos, and use YouTube as the destination for one continuous live feed. YouTube Studio can schedule and start the broadcast; a separate playout calendar decides what plays in each recurring block. For a low-maintenance hosted option, StreamNeo is #1 for keeping a prerecorded YouTube stream running: it loops from the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and includes a free first day.
Separate the video schedule from the YouTube broadcast
A 24/7 stream has two distinct jobs: deciding what video plays now and delivering a live feed to YouTube. YouTube Studio handles broadcast setup and scheduling, but the recurring calendar for rotating media belongs in a playout layer. That separation is the key to changing content blocks without treating every change as a new YouTube stream.

YouTube Studio: the destination and live event
In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create a stream or schedule a future one, then connect an encoder using the YouTube server URL and stream key. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s documented workflow is to wait for the preview and select Go live. Scheduling also lets you promote the stream and gives viewers the option to receive reminders. See YouTube’s encoder live-stream guide.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe playout calendar: the rotating content
A playout service or custom playout system chooses which video or playlist is sent to the encoder at each time. Calendar features to look for include recurring daily or weekly blocks, loop-versus-play-once behavior, and fallback content for unfilled time. One documented example, playout.video, supports videos, playlists, or compositions, recurrence, and fallback choices such as a playlist, single video, or black slate. Those are vendor-documented features, not independently verified performance results. See its calendar guide.

Broadcasts and streams in Google’s API
If you build a custom integration, Google distinguishes a liveBroadcast—the event that becomes a YouTube video—from a liveStream, which describes the incoming audio-video feed. A stream can be reused for broadcasts at different times. Google also documents a 24/7 arrangement in which a second broadcast is started for an interview that is part of the ongoing feed; completing that interview broadcast does not stop the continuous feed. The API lets you create, bind, and transition broadcasts, but its documented resource model does not provide a recurring media-block calendar. See Google’s broadcasts and streams explanation and Live Streaming API reference.
Choose the scheduling workflow
Hosted playout for a recurring calendar
Choose a hosted playout system when you want calendar-based rotation without maintaining your own always-on server. Check that its calendar supports the recurrence you need, how it handles gaps, and what happens when you edit the schedule during a live slot. playout.video says edits made while live take effect at the next slot transition and that its calendar preserves progress across restarts; treat those as the vendor’s claims, not independently verified uptime findings.

OneStream Live for a scheduled 24-hour session
OneStream Live’s Help Center page, updated September 3, 2026, says its 24/7 feature is exclusive to YouTube, requires an Enterprise plan, and allows a maximum duration of 30 days. Its documentation describes selecting videos from a device, its library, or cloud storage and scheduling a 24-hour stream. Confirm the current plan and limits before buying; these are vendor-published terms, not an independent comparison. See OneStream Live’s 24/7 streaming guide.

Custom API integration
Use the YouTube Live Streaming API to manage broadcast creation, stream binding, and broadcast state transitions. You still need a separate playout component to choose and switch media on a timetable. The API’s broadcast/stream model is useful for managing the YouTube side, not a substitute for a content calendar.

Local encoder and automation
A local encoder can give you direct control over source files and switching, but the operator must keep the host computer, media, power, network, and automation running and handle restarts. YouTube’s guide supports software and hardware encoders and explains how to supply the stream URL and key. That operational burden follows from running the encoder locally; the cited sources do not quantify its cost or reliability against hosted services.
Design the rotation before connecting it
- Choose the schedule’s time zone. Record it explicitly and use it consistently so recurring blocks do not drift between local time and the calendar’s configured time.
- Prepare and label assets. Use clear, consistent filenames and confirm you have the rights needed to stream each video. Keep a record of which file belongs to which block.
- Define every block. For each entry, specify its start time, duration, source video or playlist, and whether it loops to fill the block or plays once. If a video ends early and no loop rule is set, the following behavior depends on the playout system.
- Choose gap behavior. Decide what plays when no scheduled block is active: a fallback playlist, a standby video, or another intentional slate. Calendar systems may offer different fallback options, so verify the exact behavior in the service you select.
- Plan special events. Decide whether an event replaces the normal slot or is represented as a separate broadcast associated with the continuous feed. Google’s API documentation describes the latter pattern for an interview included in a 24/7 feed.
- Connect the playout output to YouTube. Create or schedule the YouTube broadcast, configure the encoder or hosted service with the server URL and stream key, and confirm the incoming preview before starting a scheduled broadcast.
- Check the rotation after changes. Verify the preview and live output after configuration changes, then confirm that the next scheduled transition selects the intended asset. Keep a recovery plan for interruptions rather than assuming every service behaves the same way.
- Decide how to handle archives. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not treat that statement as a guarantee that a continuous 24/7 broadcast will be archived automatically; plan separate recordings or shorter broadcasts if an archive is essential.
What to verify before choosing a service
- Calendar controls: Can you set the daily or weekly recurrence and define a start and duration for each block?
- Playback rules: Can each item loop or play once, and what happens if playback ends before the block does?
- Fallbacks: What appears during unscheduled gaps or if a scheduled source is unavailable?
- Live edits and recovery: When does a schedule edit take effect? What does the provider document about resuming after a restart or a dropped YouTube connection?
- Duration and plan: Is the maximum session length compatible with your schedule, and which plan includes the required 24/7 features?
- Event handling: Can a special broadcast be made from a portion of the ongoing feed, or does the workflow interrupt the normal rotation?
- Costs and evidence: Compare current plan terms directly. The available product documentation does not establish an independent head-to-head reliability benchmark or verified comparative prices.
