Google Labs’ Doppl was designed for experimenting with outfit photos from elsewhere, but Google’s current help material signals that the app is shutting down, so check whether it is still available before relying on it. Neither tool can tell you how a garment will actually fit.

Google’s documentation describes Shopping Try-On for tops, bottoms, and dresses; merchant guidance also includes shoes. Lingerie, swimwear, and accessories are excluded. Doppl’s launch announcement describes outfit-image experimentation rather than a catalog of eligible merchant listings. Its present access status is uncertain, so it is not a dependable alternative unless you confirm it is available in your region.

How to use Google Shopping Try-On
- Search Google Search, Shopping, or Images for an eligible top, bottom, or dress. Open a product listing and look for the Try it on control. If it is absent, that listing is not eligible. Sponsored Shopping Ads do not offer the control.
- Select Try it on and upload a photo of yourself, or a photo you have permission to use. Google says a selfie or full-body photo can work.
- For a clearer preview, use good lighting, a clean background, visible hands, and fitted clothing. The result is a visual approximation, not a fitting-room measurement.
- Review the product listing, merchant size chart, and customer reviews before buying. The preview does not establish that your size is available or predict how the garment will fit.
Google says US users can also create a digital version from a selfie using Nano Banana and may choose their usual clothing size during creation. Choosing a usual size does not turn the image into a fit recommendation. Google’s Shopping Try-On help page explains eligible listings and photo use at Google Shopping Help; its December 11, 2025 update describes the digital-version option at Google’s Shopping update.

What each tool can—and cannot—tell you
Google Shopping Try-On: preview a listed item
This is the more direct option for comparing a specific listed garment with your own appearance. Whether you can use it depends on the item displaying Try it on, your country, and Google account eligibility. Merchant image quality also affects the generated result; Google Merchant Center recommends high-resolution source images, ideally 1024 pixels or higher. That recommendation is for merchants’ product images, not a requirement for the shopper’s selfie.

Google warns that the visualization can contain mistakes and does not indicate fit, suggest a size, or show merchant size availability. Garment details or body appearance may differ from reality. Use it to imagine a look, not to decide that an item will fit. See Google Merchant Center’s explanation of how the try-on tool works.
Doppl: experiment with an outfit image
At launch, Doppl let users upload an outfit photo or screenshot—from a shop, social media, or another source—and generate images and animated video on a digital version of themselves. Google described it as an early-stage experiment and cautioned that fit, appearance, and garment details could be inaccurate. Its broader image-input approach differs from Shopping Try-On’s eligible product listings, but current access is uncertain because of Google’s shutdown-related help page.

Photo privacy and account controls
Google Shopping Try-On
Google says photos uploaded for Shopping Try-On are used to create the generated try-on image, are not used to train models, and are not shared with other Google products or third-party affiliates. You can delete your original photo and generated images. Check the current Google Shopping Help privacy details before uploading a photo.

Google’s Doppl privacy information says the service collects uploaded images, generated outputs, usage information, and feedback. It says this data may be used to provide, improve, and develop Google products and machine learning. By default, data is stored until you delete it; samples may be reviewed by people for quality, with account-disconnection precautions. Google says users can switch off Product improvement, and deleted data may remain associated with an account for up to 30 days. Consult the current Doppl Help and privacy information before using the service.

How to make a sensible buying decision
- Want to visualize a product you can buy? Start with Google Shopping Try-On when an eligible listing in your region shows the control.
- Want to try an outfit screenshot or social-media look? Doppl was designed for that use, but verify that the app still works and is available where you live.
- Need a dependable fit or size answer? Neither generated preview provides one. Use the retailer’s size chart, product measurements, and return terms.
- Concerned about using a personal photo? Read the applicable service’s current privacy terms and deletion controls first; the stated practices differ between the two Google tools.
The available official documentation does not establish a reliable comparative accuracy score, independent user-outcome statistic, or evidence that either tool reduces clothing returns. Treat both as visualization features, not substitutes for garment measurements or a retailer’s sizing guidance.
