This is a practical first export to try—not a format CameraFi officially certifies. CameraFi’s public guides confirm that prerecorded video can be added as a source and broadcast with its overlay and Picture-in-Picture features, but the guides reviewed do not specify supported containers, codecs, resolution limits, or file-size limits.
What format does CameraFi Live support?
CameraFi’s published guides confirm that users can add video files and broadcast prerecorded video through the app’s overlay feature. They do not provide an input-format compatibility table. In particular, the material reviewed does not establish which containers, video codecs, audio codecs, resolutions, frame rates, or file sizes CameraFi Live accepts.

That means MP4/H.264/AAC is a sensible compatibility-minded starting point, not an official CameraFi requirement. CameraFi describes video as an available overlay and source, and its audio-sync manual refers to a recorded video file source called VIDEO3. Neither confirms a specific codec.

How to prepare and test a prerecorded video
- Export a short sample. Choose MP4 as the container, H.264/AVC for video, and AAC for audio. Treat this as a first attempt rather than a guaranteed profile; the app’s accepted specifications are not published in the guides reviewed.
- Open CameraFi Live and add the file. Use the app’s video source or overlay controls to select the sample. CameraFi’s beginner guides document adding video files, but menu names and placement may differ by app version.
- Check both picture and sound. Play the source in the intended broadcast layout, including Picture-in-Picture if that is how you plan to use it. Confirm that the video displays, audio is present, and the two remain in sync before setting up a longer stream.
- Test the actual phone and destination. Confirm playback stability on the device and destination you will use. CameraFi’s destination list includes services and protocols such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, OBS Studio, RTMP, and SRT; this identifies output destinations, not supported input codecs.
- Only then prepare the full-length file. If the sample fails, use a conversion or remuxing tool to create a new file and test it again. Changing the filename extension alone does not convert the underlying container or codecs.
Check audio sync if the sound drifts
CameraFi’s audio-sync manual says its adjustment also applies to audio in the recorded video file source identified as VIDEO3. The manual dates from 2020, so check that the relevant control is present in your installed version and verify the result with playback before going live. The manual does not specify which audio codecs are accepted.

What to compare when a file plays inconsistently
CameraFi’s reviewed documentation does not establish alternative supported profiles, so there is no confirmed list of codecs to compare. If you test different exports, keep the checks consistent and note:
- Whether the file imports and plays through to the end.
- Whether both image and audio are present and remain synchronized.
- How the resolution and frame rate appear in the broadcast.
- Whether playback stays stable on your specific phone.
- Whether the file size is reasonable for the visual quality you need.
These are practical user-side checks, not CameraFi-published benchmarks.

Copyright and prerecorded-video disclosure
Use material you own or have permission to broadcast. CameraFi’s FAQ warns that streaming someone else’s content can create copyright problems. For Facebook, CameraFi’s FAQ says its guidance requires prerecorded material to be labeled clearly as prerecorded. Check the current rules of your destination platform before streaming, since platform requirements can change.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded video live on a YouTube channel around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option rather than a CameraFi file-format solution: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
