Recommended Free Tools
The best video conferencing software for live streaming depends on whether you need a two-way meeting, a webinar, or a produced broadcast with guests. For browser-based guest interviews and social multistreaming, consider StreamYard; for a webinar with event tools, compare Zoom Webinars or Riverside; for an organization already using Microsoft 365, Teams live events may fit a controlled, encoder-produced event. These are workflow-based recommendations from vendor documentation, not a tested ranking.
Choose the kind of live stream you need
“Live streaming” can mean a live conversation that viewers join, a webinar with registration and audience interaction, or a broadcast produced in a studio and sent to social platforms. The products below cover different parts of that range; a production studio is not necessarily a replacement for two-way conferencing.

- Meeting or webinar: The event runs inside a conferencing platform, with its own attendee and interaction workflow.
- Studio broadcast: A host brings guests into a production interface, arranges scenes, and sends the show to one or more destinations.
- Encoder-fed event: A separate software or hardware encoder produces the video and sends it into an event platform using RTMP or RTMPS. Check whether the platform supports the direction of RTMP you need: receiving an encoder feed is different from sending a platform event to an external destination.
Best options by live-streaming workflow
| Software | Best fit | Production and audience workflow | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamYard | Browser-based guest interviews and multistreaming | Vendor documentation describes streaming to Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Twitch, and other destinations; separate local audio and video recordings on participants’ devices; and On-Air as a webinar platform that can be embedded on a website. | Confirm current plan details and which destinations and recording features are included. Feature descriptions are vendor claims, not independent quality tests. |
| Zoom Webinars / Zoom Events | Webinar-centered events using Zoom’s event workflow | Zoom documents an incoming RTMP option for bringing scenes from third-party streaming software into its single-session lite Livestream flow. | Zoom’s support documentation accessed October 3, 2026, specifies app version 6.2.0 or later for incoming RTMP. Check that this flow, event format, and plan match your needs. |
| Microsoft Teams live events | Organizational events for teams already using Microsoft 365 | Microsoft describes events produced with an external RTMP-capable hardware or software encoder. Its Learn documentation says Teams can receive a single-bitrate RTMP or RTMPS feed and transcode it for adaptive-bitrate delivery. | Microsoft’s cited creator guidance lists eligible licensing, administrator permission, and full team membership among requirements. Confirm current licensing and tenant settings with your organization. |
| Riverside | Live production alongside recording and webinar workflows | Riverside’s pricing documentation distinguishes live streaming and multistreaming on Grow from Webinar-plan features such as registration, Q&A, polls, automated reminder emails, HubSpot integration, and webinar analytics. | The vendor says the Webinar plan is needed for those webinar functions. Verify current plan inclusions and billing on its pricing page. |
How to decide between them
Start with where viewers will watch
If viewers should join an event with registration, questions, or polls, start with a webinar or conferencing platform. If the broadcast should appear on several social destinations, look at a production studio that supports multistreaming. For an event restricted to an organization, check whether your existing collaboration platform supports the audience and access controls you need.
Check the production path
A browser studio, conferencing app, and external encoder are different ways to make a show. Confirm whether you need to send a feed into the platform, send the platform’s output elsewhere, or simply broadcast from a built-in studio. RTMP support alone does not establish that both directions are supported.

Compare interaction and guest handling
Write down whether you need attendee registration, moderated Q&A, polls, chat, access controls, guest roles, or a panelist workflow. Then verify each feature on the exact plan and event format. A multistreaming studio may make guest production convenient without offering the same webinar administration as an event platform.
Plan recording and reuse
Decide whether you need separate local recordings from participants, a cloud recording, an on-demand replay, transcripts, captions, or editing. These are not interchangeable: local participant files can support post-production, while event-platform transcripts and replay tools serve different needs. Microsoft Learn’s live-events overview describes speech-to-text, captions, transcript search, and time codes after an event.

Compare billing terms and how the tool fits your existing Microsoft 365, CRM, or other workflows; do not assume a feature listed generally is included in the plan you intend to use.
