There is no single best V Rising host for every group in 2026. The right choice depends first on whether you play on PC or PS5, then on PvE or PvP rules, expected peak players, wipe and backup requirements, configuration access, region, mods and the full renewal price. For a managed server, PocketHost is the clearest starting point in Stunlock Studios’ own documentation; Stunlock’s December 1, 2025 PS5 FAQ also names G-Portal for private PS5 hosting. Neither statement proves universal superiority, and neither establishes cross-play.
Use the comparison below to match a host to your group instead of choosing by slot count or a “best” badge. It also covers the official self-hosting route, because renting is optional.

Quick answer: which V Rising host fits your group?
Choose in this order: platform, ruleset, peak activity, administration needs, backups, region and total recurring cost. A 10-slot plan is not automatically better than an 8-slot plan if its CPU allocation, location or configuration tools do not suit your players.

Stunlock’s official material establishes two routes: rent and manage a server through PocketHost, or install the dedicated-server application from Steam’s Tools section. The choice is operational, not merely financial: a rental shifts maintenance to a host, while self-hosting gives you direct control over the machine and files.

Confirm the platform before comparing plans
PC: rentals and self-hosting are both documented
PC players can rent a managed instance or run the dedicated-server application themselves. Stunlock’s “How to Host a Server” guide, updated November 27, 2024, describes the rental-management route and points to the V Rising Dedicated Server application in Steam’s Tools section. It also directs administrators to the official GitHub instructions for installation and operation.
Do not expect clicking the Steam library entry to launch a running server. Stunlock says that opening the library entry displays the detailed GitHub instructions; the executable must be started from its installation directory. A newly launched server uses default game settings until you change its configuration. Players can connect by the server name or external IP, and a new server may take a few minutes to appear in the public list.

Stunlock’s PlayStation 5 FAQ, dated December 1, 2025, names PocketHost and G-Portal as providers supporting private PS5 hosting at that time. That is the strongest platform-specific evidence in this comparison, but it is still a dated statement. Check the provider’s current product page and checkout flow immediately before purchase.
The FAQ excerpt does not establish mixed-platform cross-play. Do not assume that a PS5 server accepts PC players, or that a PC rental can be joined from PS5, unless both Stunlock and the provider explicitly document that exact arrangement. Confirm the supported client platforms for every member of your group before committing to a billing term.
Define the world you are buying
Hosting cannot rescue a ruleset that does not fit your community. Write down the intended settings before looking at prices.
Player-versus-environment or player-versus-player
PvE groups usually prioritise dependable access, building and progression settings, and a backup that can be restored after a configuration mistake. PvP communities additionally need clear raid windows, castle and territory rules, clan limits, moderation permissions and a wipe schedule that players understand.
Access and moderation
- Decide whether the server is private, password-protected or publicly listed.
- Set the maximum clan size and any house rules before launch.
- Confirm that the administrator can grant permissions to trusted moderators.
- Plan how bans, appeals, chat abuse and abandoned castles will be handled.
Rates, decay and wipes
Resource, crafting, blood essence and progression rates change the amount of time a world remains engaging. Castle decay and inactive-player cleanup matter especially on persistent servers. A wipe is a rules decision, not a backup: it intentionally starts a new season, whereas a backup preserves a recoverable copy of the existing world.
Compare capacity with resources, not slots alone
Concurrent slots tell you how many connections a plan permits. They do not constitute a performance test. Compare the advertised CPU or resource allocation, expected peak activity and player geography together. A small private group online for a few hours each evening has a different requirement from a public server with a full weekend peak.

No controlled cross-provider performance test is available here. Treat claims about smoothness, uptime or “low latency” as provider marketing unless accompanied by a reproducible methodology.
Provider evidence available for 2026
PocketHost
Stunlock’s hosting guide specifically describes renting and managing a server through PocketHost. The documented management functions include viewing status, changing basic settings, reading logs and configuration files, restarting and updating the server, and granting permissions to other users. That makes it the clearest officially documented starting point for buyers who want a managed workflow.
Official documentation does not establish that PocketHost is cheapest, fastest or best for every ruleset. Confirm current PS5 availability, PC plan sizes, locations, backups, restore controls, mod policy and renewal price on the live offer.
G-Portal
Stunlock’s December 1, 2025 PS5 FAQ lists G-Portal as a private-hosting provider. The FAQ does not, by itself, specify every plan’s CPU allocation, regions, file access, backup retention or mod policy. Verify those details for the exact product you intend to buy, especially if your group needs admin-level configuration or a scheduled wipe.
NitroServ and Minestrator
An August 27, 2026 third-party comparison lists NitroServ from €12.99 per month for 10 players and Minestrator from €13.99 per month for 8 players. These are dated starting prices, not guaranteed current rates, and the comparison page discloses affiliate links. It also makes larger-tier and platform claims that should be checked against each provider’s own current documentation.
Use those numbers only to establish an initial budget range. Before ordering, record the billing period, renewal price, taxes, setup fees, storage, backups, cancellation rules and the cost of increasing slots.

A Supercraft page reviewed September 2, 2026 describes 8-, 16- and 32-slot tiers with corresponding CPU-priority levels. It also advertises settings access, backups, DDoS protection and four regions. Those are operator-published offer claims, not independent measurements or a neutral award. Ask what “CPU priority” means in practice, how backups are retained and restored, and whether the listed regions match your players.
Administration and configuration controls
Two plans with the same slots can feel completely different to an administrator. Check these controls before purchase:

- Settings access: Can you edit the game settings required for PvE/PvP, rates, clan limits, raids and castle decay?
- File access: Can you inspect or download configuration and save files, or are you limited to a web form?
- Logs: Can you diagnose failed starts, connection problems and moderation incidents?
- Restart and update controls: Can you schedule maintenance and see whether an update completed?
- Delegated permissions: Can a second administrator manage the server without sharing the owner account?
- Migration: Can you export the world if you later change hosts?
Stunlock’s PocketHost description explicitly mentions status, basic settings, logs and configuration files, restart and update actions, and permission management. Require equivalent evidence from any other provider rather than assuming that every control panel is interchangeable.
Backups, restores and seasonal wipes
Ask six separate questions: how often a backup runs, how many copies are retained, whether you can download one, how a restore is initiated, whether restoring causes downtime, and whether the host protects backups from an accidental wipe.

A rented private server may have its own wipe process, but the principle is the same: a seasonal reset is destructive. Keep an independent copy whenever the host allows downloads.
Write the backup schedule and wipe date into your community rules. Test a restore on a non-production instance if the provider offers that option. A backup that cannot be located or restored is not a usable recovery plan.
Region, price and renewal
Select the region closest to the majority of players, not necessarily the administrator. If players are split across continents, ask whether the host can offer a central location and whether moving regions requires a new server or migration.

- Recurring monthly or longer-term price after any promotion.
- Taxes, currency conversion and payment fees.
- Slot changes, extra storage, backups and dedicated-IP charges.
- Cancellation timing and whether unused time is refunded.
- Renewal date and what happens when payment fails.
The €12.99 NitroServ and €13.99 Minestrator figures above are examples from a dated comparison, not market averages. Supercraft’s tier descriptions and any current PocketHost or G-Portal prices should likewise be read as offer details for a specific date and region.
Version updates and mods
V Rising updates can require the server and client to be on compatible versions. Confirm how the host announces updates, whether it offers scheduled restarts, and how long it takes to make a new server build available.

Community BepInEx mods are version-sensitive. A mod that works after one game update may fail after the next, and support may differ by plan. Ask whether you receive the file access and startup controls required by the mod, whether the host permits third-party binaries, and how a rollback is performed. Never assume that “mod support” means every mod is safe or maintained for the current client/server version.

Renting versus self-hosting
Renting a managed server
- Advantages: A control panel, hosted network connection, provider-maintained hardware, documented restarts and fewer operating-system tasks.
- Trade-offs: Recurring cost, provider limits, possible migration restrictions and dependence on the host’s update and backup process.
Renting is usually the simpler fit for a private group that wants to play rather than maintain a machine. It is also the practical route when the administrator cannot keep a PC or virtual machine online reliably.
Running the official dedicated-server application
- Advantages: Direct control of files, configuration, update timing, backups, firewall rules and hardware.
- Trade-offs: You maintain the process, operating system, network access, saves, monitoring, security and recovery.
Stunlock’s official guide says the dedicated-server application is available in Steam’s Tools section and points administrators to detailed GitHub instructions. Follow those current instructions rather than relying on an old walkthrough. The application entry itself opens the instructions; start the executable from its installation directory.
Self-hosting checklist for a PC administrator
- Install the V Rising Dedicated Server tool from Steam’s Tools section.
- Open the installation directory and read the current official GitHub instructions.
- Start the server executable from that directory instead of launching the library shortcut as if it were the game.
- Let the first launch create its default files, then stop the process before editing configuration.
- Set the server name, password, rules, rates, clan limits and wipe-related settings deliberately.
- Configure the firewall and router according to the current official instructions. A community-maintained V Rising Wiki lists UDP 9876 for game traffic and UDP 9877 for Steam queries, and notes TCP for RCON on the game port; verify these values against Stunlock’s current GitHub documentation before opening ports.
- Preserve your customized settings outside example files that an update may overwrite, and establish a separate save-backup location.
- Start the server, connect locally, then test an external connection before inviting the whole group.
- Document who can administer the machine, how updates are applied and where the latest backup is stored.
Self-hosting is not “free hosting”: electricity, a continuously available machine, bandwidth, administration time and troubleshooting are real costs. It is appropriate when those responsibilities are acceptable and direct control matters more than convenience.
Launch procedure for a rented server
- Choose PC or PS5 first and confirm that every intended player uses a supported client platform. Do not infer cross-play from a provider’s generic V Rising listing.
- Select PvE or PvP, maximum clan size, raid rules, rates, password policy, castle decay and the intended wipe cadence.
- Estimate the highest simultaneous population, including weekend events, and select capacity with the advertised CPU or resource tier.
- Pick the region closest to most players and check whether the provider permits later relocation.
- Read the backup schedule, retention, download and restore procedure before uploading a valuable world.
- Review update, restart, logs, settings-file and delegated-permission controls.
- Check current price, renewal, taxes, add-ons and cancellation terms for the exact billing period.
- Set a strong administrator password, create only the permissions other moderators need, and avoid sharing the owner login.
- Apply settings, restart if required, and verify the displayed server name and password from a second player account.
- Schedule a routine backup and write the restore steps where moderators can find them.
Common failure modes and fixes
The server does not appear in the list
Stunlock notes that a recently launched server may take a few minutes to appear. Wait, confirm that the process is running, and try connecting by server name or external IP. For self-hosting, recheck firewall, router forwarding and the current official port guidance.
Players can connect but the world lags at peak time
Compare the actual peak population with the plan’s slot ceiling and CPU/resource allocation. Reduce unnecessary simultaneous load, move to a higher resource tier or relocate nearer to the player majority. Do not treat a larger slot number as proof that the underlying machine is faster.
A game update breaks a modded server
Stop the server, confirm client and server versions, review the mod maintainer’s compatibility notes and restore the last known-good files. If the host cannot provide the required file or startup access, run an unmodded test or choose a plan with documented mod controls.
A wipe removed the wrong world
Stop further changes, contact the provider immediately, and use the documented restore process if a retained backup exists. A reset that deleted vampires, castles and other server data cannot be reversed without a separate recoverable copy.
The administrator is unavailable
Use delegated permissions where available, create a second trusted administrator and store recovery details securely. Stunlock’s PocketHost description specifically includes granting permissions to other users; ask other providers for an equivalent feature.

Bottom line
For most groups, begin with platform and ruleset rather than a universal ranking. PocketHost has the clearest official managed-server documentation, and Stunlock’s December 1, 2025 FAQ names PocketHost and G-Portal for private PS5 hosting at that time. NitroServ, Minestrator and Supercraft provide additional dated offers worth checking, but their prices and feature claims require current provider-level verification. If you need complete control and can maintain the machine, Stunlock’s dedicated-server application is a legitimate alternative. Whichever route you choose, verify platform compatibility, compare resources as well as slots, protect saves with independent backups and treat wipe policy as a separate decision from routine recovery.
