Best Storage Mods for ARK: Survival Ascended Servers (2026 Guide)

A practical 2026 comparison of ARK: Survival Ascended storage mods, covering cryopod replacements, resource sorters, stacking options, CurseForge installation, load order, compatibility and safe testing.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For creature storage, start by comparing Dino Storage v3, Dino Depot, Super Cryo Storage and Pelayori’s Cryo Storage. For physical resources, use an auto-sorting storage mod such as CS Auto Storage or a larger-stack mod. These solve different problems: cryopod replacements hold tamed creatures, while item-storage mods organize materials. ARK: Survival Ascended mods are distributed through CurseForge, and the numeric IDs circulating in community lists can change or be incorrect, so verify the current CurseForge project page before putting a mod on a live server.

For a hosted ARK: Survival Ascended server, Godlike.Host offers game hosting with a built-in mod installer and updater, SFTP/FTP access and up to three free backups a day.

Which storage mod should you choose?

There is no single “best” storage mod for every ARK: Survival Ascended server. The right choice depends on whether your bottleneck is a crowded dino terminal, overflowing resource boxes, or the number of item entities created by large bases. The table below separates the main options by the problem they address.

Mod or group Primary job Reported features Important qualification
Dino Storage v2/v3 Creature storage Stores creatures as soul balls; stored creatures are reported as not actively simulated and may no longer count toward the server’s active tame count. Community lists identify an ASA entry as Dino Storage v3, ID 927085, but that ID and the version relationship are unverified. Check CurseForge.
Dino Depot Creature storage Dinoballs with stat tooltips, newborn auto-capture, passive-production tracking and search across stored creatures. One community list gives ID 942024. Treat the ID and feature list as unverified until confirmed on the current project page.
Super Cryo Storage Creature storage Expanded cryopod-style storage with sorting and search. A community list gives ID 928549; verify the current listing and compatibility.
Pelayori’s Cryo Storage Creature storage A cryopod-focused option recommended in a community guide for players who want easier access and configurable behavior. Specific version and ID were not established in the available material.
CS Auto Storage Item and resource storage Automatically sorts resources into chests. Listed as part of Cybers Structures QoL+, with ID 940975 in one list. Verify whether the project is currently bundled or separately published.
HG Stacks and similar stacking mods Item and resource storage Raises stack sizes, so fewer stacks need to occupy containers or lie on the ground. The practical performance effect depends on your server; no published benchmark was found.
Big Storage Box Item storage Creator videos describe capacity of up to 300 items. No authoritative project page was located for that capacity claim. Confirm the current description before relying on it.

Creature-storage mods: alternatives to ordinary cryopods

Creature storage is the main answer when your problem is a growing breeding program, a crowded base, or the overhead of keeping many tames deployed. These mods generally replace or extend the cryopod workflow by putting a creature into a ball-like item, allowing you to store, search and redeploy it later.

#1 Best Overall
ARK: Survival Evolved Pins - Dodo
  • Official ARK: Survival Evolved licensed merchandise, featuring the Dodo sculpted in textured iron
  • Compact pin measuring about 1.6 in (4 cm) across and 0.5 in (1.2 cm) thick - light enough for caps, denim and tote bags
  • Raised, textured surface gives the design real depth instead of a flat printed look
  • Made in Japan - the pin back attaches securely and sits flat without dragging the fabric down
  • A gift for ARK players, survival game fans, and dinosaur enthusiasts

Dino Storage v2 and v3

Dino Storage is the most frequently cited creature-storage choice in the community guides reviewed for this topic. The reported design stores a dino as a soul ball. Guides also claim that stored creatures are not actively simulated and that storing them can reduce the server’s tame count. Those properties are particularly useful on servers where many idle tames contribute to management limits or unnecessary simulation work.

Be careful with the version label. One ASA list calls its entry “Dino Storage v3” and associates it with numeric ID 927085, while other discussions still refer to v2 and v3 separately. The available evidence does not verify that ID, the current release number, or whether a particular server build requires one branch rather than another. Open the current CurseForge listing, confirm that it targets Survival Ascended, and read its change notes before installing.

Choose this family when your priority is straightforward creature storage and reducing the number of animals left active in the world. Before a production rollout, test imprinting, inventories, saddle handling, breeding status and any passive resource production that matters to your tribe. The summaries available for this guide do not establish how every creature state is preserved.

Dino Depot

Dino Depot is presented as a newer alternative. The reported feature set is broader than simple capture and release: Dinoballs can show stat tooltips, newborns can be captured automatically, passive production can be tracked, and a search system can find a creature among stored animals.

Those features make Dino Depot attractive to breeding-heavy tribes and farms where locating a specific parent or production dino takes longer than capturing it. A community list assigns ID 942024, but both the ID and the attribution are low-confidence in the available material. Treat the feature list as a checklist to verify in the current project description, not as a guarantee for every release.

If you use automatic newborn capture, decide which creatures and locations are eligible before enabling it. An overly broad rule can move babies into storage before a player has checked their stats, claimed them or transferred items. Test the rule on a small breeding batch first.

Super Cryo Storage

Super Cryo Storage is described as an expanded cryopod system with sorting and search. It is a sensible fit when you want the familiar cryopod concept but need better organization than a collection of unlabelled pods in storage boxes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

One list gives the project ID as 928549. That number is not verified here, and the summary does not establish which settings, creature restrictions or server versions apply. Confirm the project page, install it on a test server, and check that a stored creature can be found, withdrawn and returned without losing its inventory or status.

Pelayori’s Cryo Storage

A ScreenRant guide recommends Pelayori’s Cryo Storage for players who want cryopods that are easier to access and can be tuned to their playstyle. The available summary does not provide a verified ID, release number or detailed feature matrix, so it should be treated as a configuration-oriented alternative rather than a fully documented equivalent to the other entries.

It may suit a tribe that wants to adjust cryopod behavior instead of adopting a complete storage-and-automation system. Read the current configuration instructions carefully: a setting that is convenient for a solo world may be undesirable on a competitive or shared server.

Item and resource storage mods

Creature-storage mods do not solve overflowing metal, stone, wood or crafting components. For those materials, you need sorting, larger stack sizes or containers with more capacity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

CS Auto Storage

CS Auto Storage is described as a resource sorter that moves materials into chests automatically. It appears in a list as part of Cybers Structures QoL+, with numeric ID 940975. The relationship between the named feature and the current package is not independently verified, so confirm whether you are installing a standalone project, a component of a larger mod, or a renamed release.

Automatic sorting is most useful when your base has a fixed storage layout: for example, separate destinations for ingots, ammunition, building materials and organic resources. Plan the destination containers before enabling the system. If a chest is removed or renamed, check where the sorter sends unmatched items and whether it can leave materials in a general overflow container.

Stacking mods such as HG Stacks

Stacking mods increase the number of identical items that fit in one stack. The direct benefit is fewer stacks in boxes and fewer dropped item entities around a busy base. One community guide describes that reduction as a convenience and a possible performance gain, but no published benchmark or adoption statistic was found. Do not present a larger stack size as a measured server improvement.

Stack changes affect the whole economy of a server. Review spoil timers, crafting recipes, weight limits, transfer rates and loot balance before enabling one. A stack multiplier that feels helpful in a cooperative PvE world can undermine a server’s intended scarcity or make existing storage blueprints unsuitable.

Big Storage Box

Creator videos describe Big Storage Box as holding up to 300 items. No authoritative page was found to verify that capacity, the definition of “items,” or the current ASA release. If you consider it, treat 300 as a claim to check rather than a guaranteed specification. Place one on a test server, fill it with different item types, restart the server and confirm that its capacity and contents remain correct.

Storage-adjacent mods worth pairing

Structures Plus (S+)

Structures Plus is described as the most-installed ASA mod in one community list, but it is primarily a building overhaul, not a dedicated storage mod. It is commonly paired with storage systems because a building overhaul can provide more flexible placement, larger or differently shaped containers and a base layout that makes automated sorting easier.

Install it for construction features, not because it replaces a creature vault or an item sorter. Check interactions between S+ containers and any auto-storage mod you add, especially when both alter inventories, snap points or structure behavior.

Awesome Teleporters!

Awesome Teleporters! is storage-adjacent rather than a storage solution. The listed function is a teleport network for players, items and dinos. It can reduce the need to keep duplicate resource caches at distant outposts, but it does not organize a chest inventory or replace a cryopod system. Consider it when travel and moving stored creatures are the larger logistical problem.

How to choose for your server

  1. Define the bottleneck. Choose a creature-storage mod if you need to hide or search tames. Choose CS Auto Storage or a similar sorter if players cannot find resources. Choose a stacking mod if the number of stacks and dropped entities is the problem.
  2. Check the server type. A private self-hosted server can control its launch arguments. A hosted or console server may expose a different installation workflow and may have additional moderation or compatibility constraints.
  3. List non-negotiable features. Search, stat tooltips, newborn capture, passive-production tracking and sorting are separate features. Do not assume that one cryopod replacement includes all of them.
  4. Verify the current project. Match the CurseForge page to ARK: Survival Ascended, read the supported game version, inspect the latest update date and confirm the numeric project ID. Community lists are useful for discovery, not proof of a current ID.
  5. Test data handling. Capture representative creatures, including breeders and animals with inventories, then restart the server and retrieve them. For item mods, test ordinary resources, perishables and unusual stackable items.
  6. Roll out one major storage change at a time. Installing a cryopod replacement, a sorter and a stack overhaul together makes it difficult to identify which mod caused a transfer or inventory problem.

Installing an ASA mod on a self-hosted server

The community installation guides reviewed for this topic describe CurseForge as the distribution channel for ASA mods, not Mod.io. Because official Studio Wildcard dedicated-server documentation was not located in the available material, treat this as the commonly documented self-hosted workflow and verify it against your server host’s current instructions.

  1. Open the mod’s current CurseForge project page. Confirm that it is an ASA project, copy the numeric project ID shown there and check the release notes. Do not rely on an ID copied from an old list.
  2. Back up the server. Stop the server cleanly and copy the saved world, configuration files and any tribe or player data that your host exposes. A storage mod can alter how creatures or inventories are represented, so a rollback is more useful than a screenshot of the launch line.
  3. Add the IDs to the launch arguments. Use the -mods= parameter with comma-separated numeric IDs and no spaces. For example: -mods=927085,942024. Replace those example numbers with the IDs confirmed on the current project pages.
  4. Start the server and wait for the download. The guides state that the server downloads listed mods automatically on its first startup. Allow the process to finish before players connect; a partial download can look like a load-order or connection failure.
  5. Connect with a matching client. Players may be prompted to download the same mods. Keep the client and server on compatible releases, and restart after a mod update rather than assuming a hot reload.
  6. Test in a controlled area. Capture a disposable creature, move a small set of resources through the sorter and restart. Only after those checks pass should you migrate valuable breeders or the main stockpile.

Load order and passive mods

The installation summaries state that load order follows the order of the IDs in the launch list. A map or total-conversion mod should come first. Storage mods normally follow it, ordered according to each project’s compatibility notes.

Some servers also support -passivemods=, which loads a second tier of mods after the active mods. Use that parameter only when the mod’s documentation says it is passive and your server build supports the argument. Do not move a storage mod into the passive list merely to work around an error; a mod that changes inventories or structures may need to load actively.

When two mods change the same container, structure or cryopod behavior, read both authors’ compatibility notes. A later entry in the list can override an earlier change, but the summaries available here do not establish a universal priority rule for every pair.

Console and cross-platform considerations

CurseForge’s ASA moderation guidance distinguishes console releases from PC releases: PlayStation and Xbox versions go through additional moderation review. That does not mean every PC mod is immediately available on console, nor that a console-approved version has identical features. Check the platform availability shown on the current project page before promising a mod to players.

The same guidance says mods must not appear official or endorsed by Studio Wildcard. It permits use of Survival Evolved and DLC assets with stated exceptions, including Aquatica and ATLAS assets, and prohibits assets from other Studio Wildcard games. Those rules concern publishing and approval; they do not guarantee that a particular storage mod will work with your map, platform or other installed mods.

Performance: what is known and what is not

Storage mods are often promoted as performance helpers because inactive creatures and fewer item stacks could reduce simulation or entity overhead. In the material available for this guide, no published statistic measured storage-mod performance, server tick rate, memory use or adoption. There is therefore no defensible percentage improvement to quote.

You can still measure the effect on your own server. Record restart time, memory use, server FPS or tick-time information available from your host, and the number of dropped item entities in a repeatable test area. Compare a baseline with one mod enabled under similar player and creature counts. Keep the test conditions and mod versions in your notes; a result from a small private world should not be generalized to a heavily populated cluster.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Large stacks may reduce the number of physical stacks in containers and on the ground, while creature storage may keep stored animals from being actively simulated. Those are plausible mechanisms, not verified benchmarks. If a mod introduces auto-capture, constant scanning or a global search index, it may add its own workload. Measure rather than assuming that every convenience feature is free.

Troubleshooting common failures

The server will not start after adding a mod

  • Recheck every numeric ID against the current CurseForge page; an old or mistyped ID can request the wrong project.
  • Remove the newest ID, start the server, and add it back after confirming the download completed.
  • Check that the map or total-conversion mod remains first in the active list and that comma separation contains no spaces or stray characters.
  • Compare the mod’s supported ASA version with the server build. A valid project can still be incompatible with an outdated server.

Players are kicked or asked to download repeatedly

  • Stop the server, let its mod download finish, then restart it cleanly.
  • Ensure clients are connecting to the same mod set and compatible versions.
  • Do not mix an old client cache with a newly updated server release; have affected players refresh the mod through the game’s normal CurseForge workflow.

A stored creature cannot be found

  • Use the mod’s search or sorting interface if available, rather than checking every container manually.
  • Verify that the creature was captured by the storage mod and not left in an ordinary cryopod or another mod’s container.
  • Restore the pre-install backup before testing further if a valuable creature or inventory appears missing. Avoid uninstalling the mod from the live world while its items are still stored.

Automatic sorting sends resources to the wrong place

  • Check the destination container’s name, category and access permissions.
  • Look for an overflow or unmatched-items container and temporarily disable automatic transfers while you rebuild the layout.
  • Test one resource at a time after changing a rule. Stacking mods can change whether an item is recognized as a matching stack.

Stack sizes disrupt crafting or balance

  • Review server settings and recipes that assume default stack limits.
  • Test perishables, weight-restricted items and loot tables before applying the change to an established season.
  • If the mod cannot be tuned to your ruleset, remove it only after following its migration instructions and recovering items from affected containers.

Updating, changing or removing a storage mod

Mod IDs and versions change, and the available guides do not establish a universal migration procedure for these projects. Before updating, read the current change notes, back up the world and test the new release on a copy. Pay special attention to creatures inside soul balls, Dinoballs or cryopod replacements and to resources inside custom containers.

Do not remove a creature-storage mod while creatures remain inside its storage items. First withdraw or export every creature using the mod’s documented method, then stop the server and take another backup. Apply the same caution to auto-sorted inventories: move valuable items into ordinary game containers before disabling a sorter. If an author provides a conversion tool or a required update order, follow that project-specific instruction rather than a generic uninstall routine.

Bottom line for 2026 ASA servers

For a cryopod replacement, compare Dino Storage, Dino Depot, Super Cryo Storage and Pelayori’s Cryo Storage by the features your tribe will actually use. For materials, evaluate CS Auto Storage, a stacking mod or a high-capacity box separately; none of them is a substitute for creature storage. Install through the current CurseForge listing, use verified IDs in -mods=, preserve map-first load order, test on a backup and treat performance benefits as hypotheses until your own server measurements confirm them.
