Which kind of freebie are you looking for?
These services do different jobs. Directories point you towards sample offers and promotions; community networks connect people giving items or food away; surplus-food apps sell food that participating venues have left over. A listing is not a guarantee of stock, and “free” does not always mean there is no postage, purchase or other condition.

Where can you find free samples by post in the UK?
Start with Latest Free Stuff or Freebie Supermarket, which collect sample and offer listings. These are directories, not the companies supplying the samples: use them to discover an offer, then check the original provider’s page before submitting details or claiming it. Confirm whether delivery is genuinely free, whether a purchase is required, and whether the offer is still open. [c005][c006]
Some offers have limited quantities and disappear quickly. Freebie Supermarket warns that limited-stock promotions can run out, so treat a listing as a lead rather than a promise of availability. [c006]

How do you find free stuff near you?
Use Freecycle, Freegle or Olio for local items, then search or browse within your own area. MoneySavingExpert’s guide, updated 21 April 2026, recommends joining both Freecycle and Freegle because local groups differ, and checking regularly because popular posts can be claimed quickly. [c001]
These are community listings, not national catalogues with guaranteed stock. Check whether the post is still available and arrange collection promptly if you want it. For food, Olio describes sharing from local shops and neighbours; whether there is anything nearby depends on local participation. [c001][c002]

Which UK apps give away free food?
Olio is the free-sharing option described here: food from local shops and neighbours is shared with recipients, with volunteers helping collect surplus food from businesses. Availability depends on what is being shared locally. [c002]
Too Good To Go is different: you pay for a surprise bag of surplus food from a participating venue. Buckinghamshire Council describes the app as free to download and says each bag costs a third of the retail price. That is a council-reported description, not a guarantee of the contents or a universal price comparison. [c004]

How to tell whether a freebie or discount is genuine
A directory can help you discover an offer, but the provider’s terms determine what you actually get and what it costs. Before claiming, check the offer page itself rather than relying on a headline or an old listing.
- Check the full cost. Look for postage, a required purchase, referral conditions or any other payment. A “free” sample may not be free to receive.
- Check eligibility and availability. Read the dates, location restrictions, age or account requirements, quantity limits and any approval process.
- Check recurring charges. If an offer involves a trial or subscription, find the renewal price, billing frequency and cancellation method before entering payment details. The UK government warns that a discount can be misleading if the promotional price is the same as the price before the promotion. [c003]
- Use the official provider page. London for Cheap’s guide, with offers last checked 3 October 2026, advises checking renewal terms, reviewing optional marketing boxes and not paying unexpected delivery or prize-release fees. [c007]
- Be cautious with “discounted” prices. Compare the current price with the usual price and, where possible, check the same product elsewhere. A discount label alone does not establish a saving. [c003]
The Prime Minister’s Office reported on 9 August 2026 that Citizens Advice had found more than 13 million people—26% of UK adults—accidentally took out a subscription in a year. The release does not state which year that finding measured, so the figure should not be read as a specific year’s rate. [c003]

Some products are not legitimate public freebies: UK government guidance says businesses must not offer free samples or promotional giveaways of vaping and nicotine products to members of the public, including through third-party promotions. [c008]
