If you want different controls while holding a Nintendo Switch 2, look for a controller designed to attach to the console—not just a wireless gamepad. The Abxylute N6 Deck and NYXI Hyperion 3 are two options with reported Switch 2 attachment, but the available coverage does not establish a controlled head-to-head winner. Check current compatibility, availability and price before buying.
What counts as a handheld Joy-Con alternative?
Nintendo defines handheld mode as holding the Switch 2 with Joy-Con 2 connected to the console. An alternative for this use needs to attach to the system so you can hold the console and play with those controls. A Bluetooth controller can be useful for tabletop or TV play, but it does not by itself replace the attached controls in handheld play. See Nintendo’s play-mode guidance.

That distinction also matters if you already own original Switch Joy-Con. Nintendo says they can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but cannot attach to it; they also need a Switch console or compatible accessory for charging. The original Switch Pro Controller is listed as wirelessly compatible. Check Nintendo’s compatibility information for the specific accessory and game rather than assuming an older product will work in the same way.

How to choose for the way you play
Prioritize fit and longer-session comfort
Grip comfort is personal. The N6 Deck has a reviewer’s positive report after several weeks of use with Switch 2; the Hyperion 3 is described as ergonomic. Neither description proves which will fit your hands better. Consider button reach, overall grip shape and how securely the controls attach, and check the seller’s return policy if you cannot try one first.
Decide whether mouse input matters
If you play games that use Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, the reported lack of an optical sensor on the Hyperion 3 is a meaningful trade-off. The cited coverage does not establish mouse-input support for the N6 Deck, so verify that feature with the manufacturer for the games you play rather than assuming it is included.

Check compatibility before buying older gear
Do not treat “fits Nintendo Switch” as confirmation that an accessory fits Switch 2. The HORI Split Pad Pro manual describes an accessory that attaches to a Nintendo Switch and works only in handheld mode; it does not certify Switch 2 compatibility. It also lists gyroscope, motion IR camera, accelerometer, player LED, HD Rumble, HOME Button Notification LED and NFC as unsupported. That manual is not evidence that the Split Pad Pro will work with Switch 2.

- For a Switch 2-attached setup with a reported long-session comfort assessment, put the Abxylute N6 Deck on your shortlist, while treating the comfort report as one reviewer’s experience.
- Consider the NYXI Hyperion 3 if its reported ergonomic design and controls appeal to you and Joy-Con 2-style mouse input is not essential.
- If you only need a controller for tabletop or TV play, compare wireless gamepads separately; they solve a different problem from attached handheld controls.
