Best Streaming Devices for Xbox Cloud Gaming on a TV (2026)

Xbox lists four specific Fire TV devices for Xbox Cloud Gaming on TVs. Select LG, Samsung and VIDAA sets also support the app, with model and software limits.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a TV without a supported Xbox app, Xbox currently lists four Amazon Fire TV devices for Xbox Cloud Gaming: Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen) and Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen). You’ll also need a compatible Bluetooth controller. This is a compatibility-based recommendation, not a performance ranking: Xbox has not published comparative tests showing which device streams best.

Which streaming devices support Xbox Cloud Gaming on a TV?

Xbox’s TV compatibility and FAQ page names these Fire TV models:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen)
  • Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Gen)
  • Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen)
  • Amazon Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen)

That list is model-specific. Do not assume an unlisted Fire TV stick, Roku, Apple TV or other HDMI streamer can run the Xbox TV app. Check Xbox’s current device list before buying, since compatibility may change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do you need a separate streaming device?

Not necessarily. The Xbox app is available on select LG and Samsung smart TVs and monitors, as well as select VIDAA TVs. If you already own a compatible set, you may be able to play without adding a streamer.

LG TVs

Xbox lists LG TVs running webOS 24 or newer, including select 2022 and 2023 models after they receive the required software update. The year alone does not establish compatibility; check the exact model and installed software against Xbox’s current list. Xbox Wire’s LG app announcement provides launch context, but the current compatibility page is the better place to verify a specific TV.

Samsung TVs and monitors

Xbox lists select Samsung smart TVs from 2020 onward and monitors from 2022 onward. There is a time-sensitive qualification for 2020 TVs: Windows Central reported that Microsoft notified users support for the Xbox app on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs would end November 3, 2026. That date is upcoming as of October 7, 2026. Verify the live Xbox compatibility list before relying on a 2020 set, and recheck it after the reported cutoff.

VIDAA TVs

Xbox lists select TVs running VIDAA OS 9.6 or higher. Xbox directs users to VIDAA for details about compatible models, so the operating-system version by itself is not enough to confirm support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What about TCL TVs?

Windows Central reported in September 2026 that Xbox and TCL had announced a future app rollout for select TCL TVs. The report did not provide precise compatible models or launch details, so treat TCL as an announced future option—not a currently verified recommendation.

How to choose between a Fire TV device and a TV app

Option What is established What to check
Supported Fire TV stick or Cube Xbox names four exact models; Amazon describes installing the app, signing in and pairing a controller. Exact generation, controller compatibility, game access and network requirements.
Supported LG TV Select models with webOS 24 or newer, including some 2022 and 2023 TVs after an update. Exact model and installed software.
Supported Samsung TV or monitor Select 2020-and-newer TVs and 2022-and-newer monitors are listed; 2020 TV support has a reported November 3, 2026 cutoff. Exact model and current support status, especially for 2020 TVs.
Select VIDAA TV Xbox lists devices running VIDAA OS 9.6 or higher. Compatible model details from VIDAA and the current Xbox list.

The available sources establish compatibility, not comparative latency, picture quality or value. There is no evidence here to call one supported device the fastest or best-performing.

What else do you need to play?

A compatible controller

A controller is part of the setup. Xbox requires a compatible controller; its TV guidance and Amazon’s Fire TV setup guide give examples including Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, PlayStation DualSense and DualShock 4. Confirm the current verified controller list for your particular device before you buy or pair one.

Game access and subscription

Most games in the Xbox app require an active Xbox Game Pass subscription, though exceptions exist. The games available to you depend on region, plan, platform and time; check that the specific games you want are cloud-playable under your available plan or access option. Xbox describes the service as streaming “hundreds of games,” but that is promotional catalog wording, not a fixed or dated count.

A suitable internet connection

For TV use, Xbox recommends a wired connection or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and lists 20 Mbps download speed. That is Xbox’s published recommendation, not a guarantee of smooth play. Xbox says streaming performance is affected by “internet connection, user location, device, and other factors.” Streaming can also have limitations involving video resolution, audio output, saves, companion-app support and peripherals.
