If you want the closest follow-up to Splinter Cell’s tactical infiltration, start with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. For disguise-driven social stealth, choose Hitman: World of Assassination; for WWII missions built around sneaking and sniping, try Sniper Elite 5. These games share stealth with Sam Fisher’s series, but they differ in mission structure, setting, and what happens when you are spotted.
What makes a game feel like Splinter Cell?
The original Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell is a useful baseline: its Xbox listing emphasizes espionage infiltration, intelligence gathering, interactive environments, strategic flexibility, and lethal or non-lethal approaches. It is listed as playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. That combination—not simply having a crouch button—is what the recommendations below compare.

None is a direct replacement for every part of Splinter Cell. Some favor open-ended missions, social disguise, survival systems, or squad planning instead of a lone operative moving through the dark. Choose by the kind of stealth you want, and check the platform and local storefront listing before buying.

Closest tactical infiltration
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
This is the strongest match if what you value is assessing a situation, choosing an approach, and adapting when conditions change. Konami describes huge open-world environments, changing weather, and day/night cycles that affect tactics, with non-linear play. That gives missions more room for improvisation than a tightly scripted stealth corridor.
#1 Best Overall
- Incredible real movement and control - you can even shift Sam's weight when preparing him for a split jump between two walls
- Exciting new moves maximize Sam's lethal fighting skills -- spin out of the shadows and kill silently
- All-new moves and levels - fight in jungles, on rooftops, on top of(and under) a moving train
- Advanced AI makes it harder than ever to get past enemies - if you reveal yourself they'll get reinforcements and put on armor
- Weapons now have secondary functions that can be equipped on the fly - be amazed at the advantage you get from the red dot of the laser sight
Konami’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience bundles The Phantom Pain, its prologue Ground Zeroes, and their DLC. Its European product page lists PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a collection release date of 14 October 2016. Treat that as the listed edition and platforms, not a guarantee of current availability in every regional store.
Best for other kinds of stealth
Hitman: World of Assassination: social stealth and open missions
Choose this if you like planning routes, blending in, and turning a detailed environment to your advantage. PlayStation describes IO Interactive’s trilogy as a freeform sandbox stealth experience built around guile and deception, with brute force also possible. Its focus is not staying unseen in the shadows throughout: disguises and improvisation are central to its assassination missions.

Sniper Elite 5: infiltration with long-range shooting
Sniper Elite 5 suits players who want stealth to lead into a carefully chosen shot. GameSpot’s guide describes large maps where you infiltrate enemy camps, sneak to a sniper position, and exfiltrate. The stealth loop is therefore paired with long-range combat rather than being an end in itself. GameSpot lists its release date as May 26, 2022 and platforms as PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and iOS.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater: jungle survival
Pick Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater for camouflage and survival in a jungle setting rather than the open-ended mission structure of The Phantom Pain. PlayStation describes a stealth-survival adventure with camouflage and close-quarters combat. GameSpot lists an August 28, 2025 release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is the more survival-focused option of the two Metal Gear recommendations.

- To achieve your mission you'll kill from close-range with your combat knife, shoot with a high-tech rifle, and use radical suppression techniques like the inverted neck break
- Intelligent enemies making your mission more risky as you have to get much, much closer to them
- Completely replayable -- Totally open level design with multi-paths and optional secondary objectives
- Strive for ultimate stealth and rank yourself with the all new post-mission statistics and scoring system
- Extend the game with intense content you can download through Xbox Live
Dishonored 2: supernatural stealth choices
Dishonored 2 is a fit if you want stealth woven into a fantasy immersive sim, not a grounded spy story. PlayStation describes complex stealth scenarios in which you can shape the protagonist and your approach. Consider it for a more ability-driven take on navigating guarded spaces.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided: sci-fi equipment and non-lethal options
For a science-fiction setting, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided puts you in the role of an augmented agent. PlayStation highlights customizable equipment and the choice between stealth-oriented, non-lethal gear and deadly force. It offers a useful fit when gadgets and build choices matter as much as avoiding detection.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun: plan as a team
This is the tactical-planning choice, but it is not a third-person spy simulation. PlayStation describes a team-based stealth game with sandbox maps, traps, poison, and the option to avoid contact. Choose it if you enjoy coordinating a group and solving a level through timing and positioning.

Mark of the Ninja Remastered changes the perspective to 2D. GameSpot highlights its use of light and shadow, sound management, and line of sight. It is a strong alternative for stealth built around reading what enemies can see and hear, rather than simulating a spy’s equipment and movement in 3D.
