Starfield’s command console is a PC feature. Press the tilde key (~) on a US English keyboard, type a command, and press Enter. The Xbox console version has no in-game command console. Before you type anything, know the cost: Bethesda says achievements do not unlock while console commands are enabled, and your progress gets flagged.
Read this first: achievements and saves
Bethesda Support states it plainly in its achievements guidance for Steam: “Achievements do not unlock when console commands are enabled.” Bethesda also says command use creates a separate save file from saves where commands were not enabled.

Its Developer Mode article goes further. Pressing ~ to activate the command console flags later progress as developer-only, including progress on old saves, even if you never run a command during that session. Some third-party guides say only specific commands disable achievements. Follow the stricter official warning.

- Treat command-enabled progress as separate. Don’t continue your achievement run on it.
- Don’t count on a reboot. Bethesda says restarting typically re-enables achievements in the game, but it also distinguishes the command-enabled save file. A restart does not clean a flagged save.
- Save before experimenting. Commands can cause glitches or crashes, especially ones that change quests, NPCs or world state.
Whether credits added on PC and then synced to an Xbox Series X save would affect achievements there is unanswered in the sources reviewed. Don’t assume either outcome.

How to open the console
- Start Starfield on PC and load a save (back up first).
- Press
~(tilde). PC Gamer reports an achievement warning appears the first time you open it in a session. - Type the command and press Enter.
- Press
~again to close the console.
On non-US keyboard layouts the key may sit elsewhere or not respond. GamesOMG says console access can be changed in the keybindings.

Items and credits
The syntax is player.additem [item ID] [quantity]. Credits use the ID f, so this adds 5,000 credits:

PowerPyx’s example uses the long form, player.additem 0000000F #100000000. The shorter form with a modest amount is easier to read and safer to try. For other items and perks you need the item ID. Type help in the console to search for IDs, or use the ID lists from GamesOMG and StarfieldDB.
Replace the bracketed placeholders with real values and don’t type the brackets.
Returning to unmodified play
Bethesda’s Developer Mode guidance describes this Steam procedure. Do it only after you’ve preserved the clean backup you want to keep:

- Move your existing save to a different folder.
- Temporarily turn off Steam Cloud saves so an unwanted backup doesn’t replace your files.
- Delete saves that progressed with a command active.
- Relaunch the game.
