Which star should you use?
- Want the standard filled five-point shape? Choose ★.
- Prefer an outline? Choose ☆.
- Need a more ornamental shape? Try ✦, ✧, ✪ or one of the geometric forms.
- Want an emoji-style appearance? Try ⭐, 🌟 or ✨, then check the result in the destination app.
The practical differences are shape, visual weight and whether you want an emoji-style presentation. Unicode charts establish a character’s name and code point, but do not guarantee identical rendering across devices, fonts or apps.

How to find a symbol when you know its appearance
If you can see the character but do not know its name, paste it into a character lookup tool or search by an English name. Unicode CLDR documentation describes searching by pasted character or name, and explains its short-name and keyword data: CLDR short names and keywords for characters. A common way people phrase the lookup is “How to make that ★ symbol,” as in this Reddit discussion.
