Choose according to whether you need a private clan or scrim server, a public community server, the location of your players, and whether you need placement in Squad’s primary Server Browser. Among the US-facing plan pages checked on October 13, 2026, FadeHost lists an 8 GB configuration at $9.50 per month, while Shockbyte lists 3 GB for 15 players at $7.99 per month and 6 GB or more for 40-plus players at $18 per month.
Those are published offers, not independent performance rankings. Before paying, confirm the billing term, renewal price, hardware allocation, region, support terms and—especially for a public server—the current licensing requirements from Offworld Industries.

Quick answer: which plan fits your Squad server?
- Small private group: Shockbyte’s published 3 GB, 15-player tier is the lowest-priced US-facing offer in this comparison at $7.99 per month, checked October 13, 2026. Treat it as a private-group starting point, not proof of public-server eligibility.
- Larger community or event: FadeHost publishes an 8 GB Squad configuration and advertises support for up to 100 players at $9.50 per month. Shockbyte lists a 6 GB-or-more tier for 40-plus players at $18 per month.
- Primary Server Browser placement: Do not assume any host plan includes a license. Verify Offworld Industries’ current application and approval requirements for the exact deployment you intend to run.
- Players spread across regions: Select the data-center location that minimizes latency for most players, then confirm that the location is available at checkout and that the plan uses suitable CPU and network resources.
The practical winner is therefore use-case dependent: Shockbyte’s entry tier is aimed at a small private group, while FadeHost’s published 8 GB offer is the clearer fit when you need more memory and a larger stated player capacity. Neither conclusion is an independently tested performance result.
Private, Custom and public servers are different decisions
Private clan, training or scrim server
A server for a fixed group can be kept private and used for practice, events or internal matches. In this case, the decisive checks are enough RAM for your expected player count, a convenient region, reliable restarts, file access, backups and the administrative controls your organizers actually use. You may not need the overhead of a public-community approval process.

Public community server
A public server needs more than a hosting subscription. You must establish whether the deployment can meet Offworld Industries’ current licensing and browser requirements, and whether the provider will support the hardware and network configuration requested by the application. Ask the host to identify how the specific machine is provisioned before purchase.
Custom Servers tab versus the primary browser
The comparison material states that unlicensed servers can run under Squad’s Custom Servers tab. FadeHost’s product page likewise says its unlicensed servers appear in Custom Servers. That is not the same visibility as the primary Server Browser, so do not advertise a plan as primary-browser eligible unless the current policy and your server’s approval have been verified.
What Offworld’s application tells you—and what it does not
Offworld Industries provides an official server-license application portal. The form requests operational details including the provider, available administrators, player slots, CPU, physical memory, disk capacity, network speed, server location and administrator availability. Completing a form is not evidence that every submission is approved, and the portal page reviewed does not state the complete current qualification policy.
A comparison updated in 2026 reports that the policy it reviewed in August 2026 called for at least 8 GB of RAM, 10 administrators per server, public access and approved non-virtualized hardware. The same comparison says it found no current 80-slot minimum. These are secondary-source reports, not independently confirmed statements of the complete official rules. Treat them as questions to verify directly with Offworld before committing money, especially if your chosen plan has 3 GB or 6 GB.

All prices above are monthly plan listings observed on the stated date. They can change with billing term, promotion, tax, location or renewal. The comparison source used for broader provider information checked prices on August 18, 2026 and is UK-focused; its GBP-first values should not be substituted for current US pricing.

RAM and player capacity: compare the pair, not one number
RAM is only one part of a Squad server’s capacity, but it is the clearest difference among the published offers. FadeHost describes 8 GB as its minimum recommended RAM for Squad and states support for up to 100 players. Shockbyte maps 3 GB to 15 players and 6 GB or more to 40-plus players. Those statements are provider specifications, not a guarantee that a server will sustain the stated population in every map, mod set or combat situation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAsk for the CPU model or allocation, whether resources are shared or virtualized, storage type, network capacity, tick-rate expectations and restart policy. A nominally larger RAM tier may still be a poor choice if CPU contention or a distant region causes lag. Conversely, paying for more memory than your private group uses adds cost without solving a different bottleneck.
Operational controls that matter after launch
Administration and live control
RCON, console access and admin-group management determine how quickly moderators can warn, kick, ban, change layers or restart a crashed process. FadeHost lists RCON, admin groups and layer rotation. Shockbyte lists console access and setup assistance. Confirm whether access is available through a web panel, a standard RCON client, or both, and whether permissions can be separated among organizers.
Mods and file management
Mod installation and direct file access reduce the time needed to deploy workshop content, edit configuration files and troubleshoot failed updates. Shockbyte lists mod installation and file access; FadeHost lists a file manager and SFTP. Ask whether you can download a complete copy of the configuration and whether a migration export is available if you leave.
Backups and restore
Both published offers list backups. Confirm their frequency, retention period, storage location and whether you can trigger and restore a backup yourself. A backup that cannot be restored without a support ticket is less useful during a live incident.

- 【Quad 4K Display Support for Productivity】The mini desktop computer supports up to four 4K displays via HDMI, DisplayPort, and dual USB-C ports. Ideal for multi-screen workflows such as coding, trading, or content creation with improved efficiency.
DDoS protection and support
Both providers list DDoS protection. “Protection” does not describe a guaranteed mitigation capacity or response time, so request the service limits and escalation route. Compare ticket response targets, live-chat availability, status notices and the process for emergency restarts.
Choose the region from your player map
Put the server near the largest concentration of players rather than near the organizer’s home by default. If a community is split between continents, test representative routes or choose the location that gives the main event audience the lowest and most consistent latency. Ask whether the region is a real deployment location for the selected tier, not merely a location shown in a general marketing list.
Availability changes. Confirm the current US region, IP address type, network provider, transfer limits and any relocation fee at checkout. A UK-focused comparison can provide useful provider leads, but its location details and August 2026 prices should not be generalized to a US purchase.

- Define the audience. Record the usual and peak player counts, whether the server is private or public, expected mod usage and the countries where players connect.
- Set a memory target. Use the published 3 GB/15-player, 6 GB+/40-plus-player and 8 GB/up-to-100-player figures only as starting points. Leave headroom for mods, logs and map changes.
- Verify hardware. Get the CPU allocation or model, physical versus virtualized hardware status, storage type, network speed and whether resources are shared.
- Check region inventory. Select the actual location offered for the plan and confirm latency, IPv4 or IPv6 needs, transfer limits and migration options.
- Audit controls. Confirm RCON or console access, admin groups, layer rotation, mod installation, SFTP or file-manager access, scheduled restarts and log retrieval.
- Test recovery terms. Ask how often backups run, how long they are retained, how restoration works and whether you can export files before cancellation.
- Confirm price details. Record the billing interval, renewal price, taxes, setup fees, add-on RAM charges, cancellation deadline and refund policy. Recheck the checkout total because plan pages change.
- Handle licensing before advertising. For public use, submit or confirm the Offworld Industries requirements using the exact provider, hardware, location, player-slot and administrator details.
- Run a pre-opening test. Invite a representative group, test mod downloads, layer changes, RCON permissions, restarts and backup restoration before publishing the server widely.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Choosing only by monthly price
The $7.99 Shockbyte entry tier is attractive for a 15-player private group, but a low price does not establish public-browser eligibility, CPU quality or support performance. Compare the complete resource and recovery package.
Assuming a provider supplies a license
Hosting and licensing are separate. A provider can rent a server that runs in Custom Servers while your community still lacks approval for the primary browser. Obtain written clarification for the actual deployment.

Equating advertised slots with guaranteed performance
“Up to 100 players” and “40-plus players” are published capacity descriptions. They are not independent load tests. Ask what workload, map, mod set and hardware assumptions underlie the figures.
Ignoring renewal and migration
Promotional or initial prices may not equal renewal totals. Save your configuration, workshop list, ban list and permissions outside the host, and verify that cancellation does not immediately delete backups.
Using a distant region because it is cheaper
Latency affects hit registration, voice communication and player retention. Confirm the location before paying rather than relying on a generic provider map.
How the two observed offers map to real scenarios
| Scenario | Starting choice | Why | What to verify first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clan or friend group up to about 15 players | Shockbyte 3 GB tier | Published at $7.99/month with a stated 15-player fit | Region, CPU allocation, mod needs, backup restoration and private use |
| Community expecting 40 or more players | Shockbyte Commander or FadeHost 8 GB configuration | Shockbyte lists 6 GB or more for 40-plus players; FadeHost publishes 8 GB and up to 100 players | Actual hardware, peak-load behavior, support response and public licensing |
| Public server targeting the primary browser | No automatic winner | Eligibility depends on Offworld Industries’ current policy and approval, not only on the host name | Official requirements, non-virtualized hardware status, administrators, public access and exact deployment details |
| Mod-heavy training or event server | Whichever provider offers the needed file and mod workflow | Shockbyte lists mod installation; FadeHost lists file manager/SFTP and layer controls | Workshop update process, permissions, backup retention and export capability |
Other providers mentioned in comparisons
A UK-focused comparison updated in 2026 also names LOW.MS, Host Havoc, G-Portal and 4NetPlayers, among others, and reports that LOW.MS, Host Havoc and G-Portal appeared on a trusted-provider list. That comparison also says trusted-provider status does not itself grant a community a server license. Because current US plan pages, hardware terms and the official trusted list were not verified here, treat those names as leads for separate checking rather than definitive US recommendations. Their August 2026 GBP/USD figures are not US pricing.
What to document before opening the server
- Provider, plan name, billing term and renewal amount
- RAM, CPU allocation, storage, network speed and virtualization status
- Data-center location and expected player geography
- Player-slot target and whether the server is private, Custom Servers or intended for the primary browser
- Administrator list, RCON or console permissions and layer-rotation controls
- Mod installation method, configuration export and migration procedure
- Backup schedule, retention, restore steps and deletion timing after cancellation
- Support channels, incident escalation and DDoS-protection limits
- Offworld Industries application status and any written clarification about eligibility
Bottom-line decision
For a small private group, Shockbyte’s published 3 GB plan is the lowest observed monthly entry point. For a larger group that wants more stated memory and capacity, compare FadeHost’s $9.50 8 GB configuration with Shockbyte’s $18 6 GB-or-more tier, then choose on hardware, region, controls and recovery—not price alone. For a public server, the best host is the one whose exact deployment meets the current Offworld Industries requirements and gives your admins dependable access, backups and support. Recheck every figure and licensing condition at checkout because the verified pages and policies can change.
