There is no objectively best-sounding gaming keyboard: some listeners want a low, muted keystroke, while others prefer a crisp, clacky one. These five models offer distinct sound-related design choices, but the available evidence does not support a controlled head-to-head sound ranking. Treat manufacturer descriptions and reviewer impressions as clues, then listen to a recording of the exact model and build you might buy.
Five gaming keyboards to consider for their sound
The picks below are a shortlist, not a first-to-fifth acoustic ranking. Their sound can vary with the specific edition, keycaps, case, and recording setup. Where a source describes sound, that description is attributed rather than presented as a measured result.

| Keyboard | Sound character described | Construction or sound evidence | Layout and gaming use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wooting 80HE | Designed for a softer, lower-frequency character. | Wooting says its silicone gasket absorbs impact and its polycarbonate plate mutes more high frequencies. The board has screw-in stabilizers. The manufacturer’s description is design intent, not a controlled comparison. The source does not provide a stock sound sample. | Compact 80% layout; wired. Wooting lists Lekker L60 V2 switches and PBT, ABS, and dye-sublimated keycap options. Case material is ABS or zinc alloy, depending on build. |
| Razer Huntsman V3 Pro TKL 8KHz | Razer describes the stock sound as clean and muted. | Razer says the switches are individually lubricated and sit above dense foam. Its product page includes a typing clip explicitly identified as recorded on a stock, unmodified Razer Huntsman V3 Pro 8KHz. Listen to that clip on the Razer product page. | Tenkeyless; wired. The product page identifies this as the 8KHz model; do not assume its recording or specifications apply to other Huntsman versions. |
| SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 | Dampened, with reduced noise and vibration as a stated design goal. | SteelSeries says its foam reduces noise and vibration and per-key lubrication makes presses smoother and quieter. These are manufacturer claims, not comparative sound measurements. | Tenkeyless; magnetic switches with adjustable actuation from 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm. This is the TKL Gen 3, not another Apex Pro size or generation. |
| Keychron K2 HE | PC Gamer describes a clacky character, associated with its keycaps, lubricated switches, and casing. | The guide discusses the sound and build, but a sound-only controlled comparison is not established. Confirm the exact edition before relying on a sound sample or specifications. | Wireless 75% layout; Gateron Hall effect switches. A compact option if you want wireless connectivity and more keys than a 60% board. |
| Razer Huntsman V3 HE | Windows Central’s 2026 review says the sound is cleaner than the Huntsman Analog Keyboard and V3 Pro. That is a reviewer’s listening assessment, not a standardized measurement. | The review describes an aluminum top plate, doubleshot PBT keycaps, dense internal foam, and additional lubrication. Check whether you are looking at the TKL or Mini variant. | Available in TKL and Mini variants according to the review. Verify the exact version and regional listing; the variants should not be treated as interchangeable. |
How to choose the sound you actually want
For a lower, softer keystroke
The Wooting 80HE is the clearest fit if you are seeking a softer feel and reduced high-frequency emphasis. Wooting says its gasket absorbs impact and its polycarbonate switch plate mutes more high frequencies and emphasizes “thock.” That word is a vendor’s description, not a sound-quality score. Case material and keycap choice can change what you hear, so identify the exact build when comparing clips.
For a muted stock sound
The Huntsman V3 Pro TKL 8KHz has the most useful documented sound check in this shortlist: Razer provides a sample and identifies it as stock and unmodified. Its foam and lubricated switches are also described by the manufacturer as part of a clean, muted acoustic design. The clip is a starting point, not a guarantee of how the keyboard will sound in your room.

For a clackier wireless 75% board

For sound damping alongside magnetic gaming features
The Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 combines stated sound-dampening foam and per-key lubrication with adjustable magnetic-switch actuation. The Huntsman V3 HE is another magnetic option; Windows Central reports a cleaner sound than two other Razer models in its 2026 review. Neither acoustic description establishes a universal winner.

Why the same keyboard can sound different
Sound is the result of the whole keyboard, not just its switch. The sources for these models specifically document differences in mounting, plates, cases, foam, lubrication, stabilizers, and keycaps. A softer mount or dampening can reduce some impact or higher-frequency sound; lubrication can affect the sound and feel of moving parts. These design choices do not guarantee that every listener will prefer the result.
Recommended Free Tools
- Mount and plate: Wooting describes a silicone gasket and polycarbonate plate on the 80HE. Those construction choices are intended to soften impact and reduce higher-frequency emphasis.
- Foam and lubrication: Razer and SteelSeries cite foam and lubrication as ways to dampen sound or smooth presses on their respective models.
- Case, keycaps, and variant: Wooting lists different case and keycap options; PC Gamer ties the K2 HE’s clacky character partly to its keycaps and casing. Check the exact configuration rather than assuming all versions sound alike.
- Stabilizers: Wooting says its screw-in stabilizers are intended to reduce rattle, which matters most on larger keys such as the space bar.
How to compare sound samples fairly
- Match the exact model and build. Check the full model name, layout, edition, case, keycaps, and any modifications. A TKL recording is not evidence for a Mini variant, and a modified board is not a stock reference.
- Prefer clearly identified, unprocessed recordings. Razer explicitly labels its Huntsman V3 Pro 8KHz clip as stock and unmodified. For other clips, look for the model and recording conditions; if they are missing, treat the sample as an illustration, not a direct comparison.
- Listen to the same keys and typing pattern. Compare ordinary typing and larger keys such as the space bar. Different typing force, microphones, room acoustics, and audio processing can make recordings misleading.
- Use headphones or speakers you know. Playback equipment and volume affect perceived bass and sharpness. A clip cannot reproduce the feel of the keyboard or guarantee the sound at your desk.
- Separate sound from speed features. Adjustable actuation or magnetic switches can matter for gameplay, but those features do not prove that a keyboard sounds better.
Sound is only one part of the gaming fit
Choose a layout and connection that suit your desk and use, then narrow the options by sound preference. The 80HE and the two Huntsman V3 Pro and Apex TKL models keep a compact tenkeyless-style footprint; the K2 HE is a wireless 75% alternative. The Huntsman V3 HE comes in TKL and Mini variants. For competitive controls, the SteelSeries model offers 0.1–4.0 mm actuation adjustment, while the other models’ gaming features should be checked against the precise version you intend to buy. A fast or adjustable board is not automatically a quieter or better-sounding one.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The sources establish several manufacturers’ sound-related design claims and one clearly labeled stock recording, plus published reviewer impressions for the Keychron K2 HE and Huntsman V3 HE. They do not provide a standardized sound-quality score or a controlled acoustic comparison across all five keyboards. PC Gamer’s guide, last updated August 6, 2026, names the Wooting 80HE its best gaming keyboard overall and discusses the K2 HE, but that is gaming context rather than proof of a sound-only winner. Pick by the sound profile you prefer and verify the specific variant and sample.
