Choose among four 2026 soundbar picks based on whether you need rear speakers, a subwoofer, a simple standalone bar, or a compact setup.

If your budget is under $200, the right soundbar depends on whether you want rear surround speakers, stronger bass, clearer dialogue, Atmos format support, or a compact bar. RTINGS’ guide, updated August 25, 2026, names the Hisense HS5100 as its overall pick, with the TCL S55H, Sony HT-S100F, and Roku Streambar SE serving different needs. These are RTINGS’ recommendations, not hands-on tests by this publication; check live price and stock before buying.

Best soundbars under $200 at a glance

Model Best for What stands out Main trade-off
Hisense HS5100 A surround package with rear speakers and a subwoofer 5.1 setup, discrete satellites and center channel, bass and treble adjustment, Bluetooth No native Dolby Atmos support according to RTINGS
TCL S55H A subwoofer without rear satellites 2.1 setup, punchy bass, clear dialogue and instruments, EQ presets, Night mode, Atmos format support Produces stereo rather than a genuinely immersive surround field
Sony HT-S100F A simple standalone bar 2.0 configuration, Bluetooth, optical input, HDMI ARC No subwoofer; limited low-end impact
Roku Streambar SE Very limited space Under 10 inches wide, Dolby Digital support, app EQ and bass/treble adjustment No included subwoofer, subdued bass, lower maximum loudness than larger picks

RTINGS says it considers price, visitor feedback, and availability in its guide and reports having tested more than 250 soundbars. That count is RTINGS’ own figure, not an independent audit or a measure of performance.

Which soundbar should you choose?

Hisense HS5100: the most complete surround setup

RTINGS names the HS5100 its overall pick. Its 5.1 arrangement includes a dedicated subwoofer, discrete center channel, and satellite speakers that can place effects behind the listener. It also offers bass and treble adjustment and Bluetooth streaming. Choose it if a fuller physical surround setup matters more than native Atmos compatibility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

RTINGS says the HS5100 does not natively support Dolby Atmos. Atmos content is downsampled unless a compatible Hisense TV processes it in TV mode; RTINGS says that result is not as natural as native support.

TCL S55H: a subwoofer without rear speakers

The 2.1-channel S55H is RTINGS’ pick for shoppers who want a subwoofer but not satellite speakers. RTINGS highlights punchy bass, clear dialogue and instruments, EQ presets, Night mode, and Dolby Atmos format support. It renders stereo, however, rather than creating the same physical surround arrangement as rear speakers. RTINGS also says its stereo soundstage and center-channel performance fall short of the HS5100.

Atmos format support is not the same as height effects or an immersive surround presentation. Consider the whole speaker arrangement, not just the format label.

Sony HT-S100F: a straightforward bar without a subwoofer

RTINGS names the HT-S100F its standalone-bar pick. It has a 2.0 configuration, Bluetooth, optical input, and HDMI ARC. Tom’s Guide reviewer Erin Bashford described dialogue as clear in her test account: “I could hear all the headset dialogue clearly. There was no muffled speech, and I wasn’t straining to hear even over the radio crackling sound effect.” That is Bashford’s experience, not a test by this publication.

The bar has no subwoofer, so it cannot deliver the same deep-bass impact as a system with one. RTINGS notes limited treble detail. Surround sound is downmixed to stereo, and the bar lacks DTS, an HDMI input, Wi-Fi playback, and AirPlay.

  • 【Smart Standby Mode】The soundbar's red indicator light indicates safe standby mode. It consumes minimal power and will not affect the product's lifespan. You do not need to unplug it when not in use.

Roku Streambar SE: for a tight space

RTINGS’ compact pick is under 10 inches wide and supports Dolby Digital, with app controls for EQ, bass, and treble. It has no included subwoofer, so bass is subdued, and its maximum loudness is lower than that of the larger picks. Surround content is downmixed to stereo, and DTS is not supported. A subwoofer is sold separately.

Choose by room, bass, and connections

Decide whether you need real rear speakers

Discrete satellites such as those in the HS5100 can deliver surround effects from behind the listener. A bar without rear speakers takes less room, but it does not reproduce that same physical arrangement. RTINGS’ general guidance is that a separate subwoofer and wireless satellites matter for cinematic content; a standalone bar may suit smaller rooms or dialogue-heavy viewing with fewer effects.

Match bass expectations to the hardware

A dedicated subwoofer supports more low-end impact. The HS5100 and TCL S55H include one; the Sony HT-S100F and Roku Streambar SE do not. If deep bass is a priority, the standalone and compact options involve a clear compromise.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check the TV connection before buying

The Sony HT-S100F offers HDMI ARC and optical input, but no HDMI input. Match the soundbar’s actual ports to the outputs available on your TV and any other equipment. For any model, check the exact product listing and manufacturer specifications for dimensions and connection compatibility before ordering.
