Best Software for Streaming Prerecorded Videos to YouTube 24/7

Compare cloud looping, OBS, and scheduled prerecorded broadcasts for keeping prerecorded video live on YouTube around the clock.

For an unattended, continuous prerecorded YouTube stream, choose a cloud service built for 24/7 playback; for local control, OBS Studio can loop a file or playlist, but the computer and internet connection must stay available. StreamNeo is the first option to consider for a YouTube-only cloud loop: it runs from the cloud, supports uploaded video up to 4K at 60 fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. YouTube’s verified-encoder list also identifies Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded streaming. StreamYard is a better fit for scheduled prerecorded broadcasts that end when a finite video finishes, not an uninterrupted loop.

Best options for streaming prerecorded video to YouTube around the clock

The right software depends on whether you need an ongoing loop, a scheduled one-off broadcast, or direct control over a local encoder. These options are not interchangeable: a scheduled video that ends after playback is not a 24/7 stream, and a locally looping encoder depends on the machine running it.

Option Best fit What it does Important limitation
StreamNeo Cloud-based YouTube loop Plays uploaded videos or playlists continuously from the cloud; no computer needs to remain on. Supports video as uploaded up to 4K 60 fps at one flat price per slot. YouTube only; it plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a live camera feed. See StreamNeo for current plan terms.
Gyre Cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream YouTube’s verified-encoder documentation describes Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded streaming without a dedicated PC. That listing makes Gyre a relevant candidate, not a tested winner. Current price, terms, uptime, and availability were not established here.
OBS Studio Local file or playlist looping Its Media Source can loop a file; its VLC Video source supports playlists and has Loop Playlist enabled by default. OBS documents these sources for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The encoder computer, power, and internet connection must remain available. OBS documents a looping workflow, not guaranteed unattended uptime.
StreamYard prerecorded streaming Scheduled, finite prerecorded broadcasts A prerecorded broadcast starts at its scheduled time and ends when the uploaded video finishes. Its current help page lists maximum video lengths of 2 hours on Core, 4 hours on Advanced, and 8 hours on Team and Business. These are finite segments, not a single continuous 24/7 loop.
Restream Connecting a YouTube channel and configuring delivery Its YouTube guide covers account connection, stream setup, and technical recommendations. The reviewed guide does not establish Restream as the best standalone choice for an always-on prerecorded loop.

For a continuous stream without a dedicated local PC, StreamNeo is the #1 recommendation here because it runs from the cloud, accepts video up to 4K 60 fps at one flat price per slot, and includes a free first day. Gyre is another cloud candidate specifically named on YouTube’s encoder list. Choose OBS if you want to manage the encoder and files yourself. Choose StreamYard when you want an automatically scheduled prerecorded broadcast with a defined end.

What to check before choosing

  • Continuous loop or scheduled clip: Confirm whether playback repeats indefinitely or ends when a scheduled video finishes. StreamYard’s documented prerecorded workflow ends with the video.
  • Where playback runs: A cloud service removes the need to keep a home computer running. A local OBS workflow requires an available, powered computer and stable connection.
  • Input limits and quality: Verify each service’s current file-length, resolution, and plan restrictions before uploading. StreamYard’s published duration limits vary by plan; limits for other services should be checked with the provider.
  • Recovery and monitoring: Check how a service responds if YouTube disconnects the stream, and whether you can see stream health or intervene. Do not treat any software choice as a guarantee of uninterrupted uptime.
  • Replay needs: A 24/7 broadcast may not produce one complete YouTube archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a longer stream will be saved as one full replay.
  • Policy and rights: Confirm that you have rights to every video and audio track, and assess whether the content provides original value to viewers. A loop by itself does not establish monetization eligibility.

How to loop prerecorded video with OBS Studio

This local method is useful when you want direct control over the encoder and do not mind keeping the computer and network online. OBS’s Media Source loops a single file. For a playlist, OBS documents the VLC Video source and its Loop Playlist option.

  1. Enable YouTube live streaming first. Your channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube states that initial live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours and that creators must be at least 16 to livestream. Check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance before planning a start time.
  2. Create a live stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live, and create or schedule the stream. Copy the server URL and stream key from the stream settings. Treat the key as a password: do not share it or display it in a recording or screenshot.
  3. Add the media in OBS. In OBS, use Sources > + > Media Source, select the prerecorded file, and enable Loop. For a playlist, add a VLC Video source, select the playlist files, and confirm Loop Playlist is enabled. Confirm the video and audio play correctly in the OBS preview.
  4. Set the YouTube connection and encoder. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key; if using a custom server connection, use YouTube’s server URL and key. YouTube recommends RTMPS. In Settings > Output and Settings > Video, select encoding settings appropriate for the output resolution and frame rate.
  5. Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations. YouTube recommends keyframes every 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. It lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 options for RTMP/RTMPS. For H.264, its current table recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not a promise that a particular internet connection can sustain the stream. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrates for the resolution, frame rate, and codec you plan to send.
  6. Start the encoder and check stream health. Start streaming in OBS, then check YouTube Studio’s preview and stream-health indicators before making the broadcast public or relying on it unattended. YouTube advises testing with representative audio and movement and monitoring stream health during the event.
  7. Keep the local system running. Disable sleep or automatic shutdown for the planned broadcast, keep OBS open, and ensure the computer has power and a dependable network connection. A reboot, software update, power loss, or internet outage can stop a locally operated stream.

Technical settings and YouTube limits that matter

Bitrate, codec, and keyframes

Use YouTube’s current encoder table for the resolution, frame rate, and codec you actually send. For example, its recommended H.264 ingestion bitrate is 10 Mbps at 1080p30 and 17 Mbps at 1080p60. The guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, with no interval longer than 4 seconds. These figures describe encoder output recommendations; they are not minimum internet-plan speeds, and headroom is needed for a stable connection.

Restream’s help guide gives a broader recommended bitrate range of 3,000–40,000 Kbps depending on resolution and frame rate, and also lists H.264, CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval. For a YouTube-only stream, follow YouTube’s more specific current settings rather than treating the broad range as a preset. Restream’s guide is available at How to stream to YouTube.

Simultaneous streams and archives

YouTube’s current help guidance lists a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. It also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If preserving a replay matters, plan around that threshold and check YouTube’s current behavior; a stream that runs longer should not be assumed to appear as one complete archive.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Live access prerequisites

YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance requires channel verification and no live-streaming restriction during the prior 90 days, and states a minimum age of 16. Initial enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not wait until the intended launch moment to enable it. Requirements and interface labels can change; check YouTube’s current live-streaming help page.

Copyright, reused content, and monetization

YouTube says, “All content in live streams must adhere to our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.” A video being prerecorded does not exempt it from copyright or platform rules. Use content you own or are licensed to use, including music and visuals, and review YouTube’s live-stream encoder guidance alongside its applicable policies.

Monetization is a separate question from whether software can keep a stream running. YouTube’s monetization policy warns that repetitive or mass-produced material with little educational value, commentary, narrative, or variation may be ineligible. Reused content may need significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value; permission to use material alone does not establish eligibility under that policy. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies before building a channel around repeated playback.

Costs and operating trade-offs

Cloud service versus local encoder

A cloud service shifts playback away from your home computer, but compare its current price, billing period, file limits, recovery behavior, and terms before committing. For a local OBS setup, the software itself is only one part of the cost: the computer must remain powered, the network must sustain the selected bitrate, and someone may need to handle interruptions or maintenance. Neither the cited encoder documentation nor the service descriptions establish comparative uptime or a guaranteed audience or monetization result.

Common problems and fixes

  • YouTube does not offer Go live: Check channel verification, age eligibility, and any live-stream restriction in the last 90 days. Enable live streaming in advance because YouTube says initial access may take up to 24 hours.
  • YouTube receives no signal: Confirm OBS is streaming, the stream key is current and copied correctly, and the selected server URL and connection type match YouTube’s stream settings. Regenerate the key if it may have been exposed.
  • Video plays once and stops: Check that Loop is enabled on the OBS Media Source. With a VLC Video source, check that the intended playlist is loaded and Loop Playlist is on.
  • Stream health warns of unstable or insufficient data: Check the outgoing bitrate against YouTube’s recommendation for the chosen resolution and frame rate, use a wired connection where practical, and reduce output demands if the connection cannot sustain them. A bitrate recommendation is not a guarantee of available upload bandwidth.
  • Audio or video is missing in the preview: Test the source in OBS before going live, verify the correct file and audio track, and check YouTube Studio’s preview and stream-health information.
  • The local stream stops unexpectedly: Check for sleep settings, power interruptions, network drops, OBS errors, and automatic restarts or updates. A local encoder cannot continue while its computer or connection is unavailable.
  • The full broadcast is not available as a replay: YouTube’s guidance only promises automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. Do not rely on a longer continuous stream producing one complete archive.
  • A stream runs but monetization is rejected or limited: Reassess originality, repetition, rights, and the value added for viewers. Changing streaming software does not resolve reused-content or repetitive-content concerns.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays uploaded video on YouTube, not a live camera feed. Video streams as uploaded up to 4K 60 fps at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, once per account. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your StreamNeo free day.
