For remote interviews with separate participant tracks, compare Riverside and Zencastr; for a talk show that also needs live production, consider StreamYard; for a familiar, meeting-style workflow, Zoom can record separate participant audio files when configured. Choose based on whether you need separate audio, separate video, live production, easy guest access, and enough recording time—not on a universal quality ranking.
How to choose recording software
First decide what you are making: an audio-only episode, a video interview, a live talk show, or a recording that needs separate files for editing. Separate participant tracks let an editor work on each speaker independently. Local recording captures participant media on their devices and uploads it; that can preserve source files when the live connection has problems, but it still depends on a usable connection and a successful upload.

Riverside: separate audio and video for remote interviews
Riverside’s official podcast page describes separate participant audio and video tracks, 48 kHz WAV audio, video up to 4K, progressive upload, and up to eight participants. It is a strong fit to investigate when the edit depends on individual speaker files, especially separate video as well as audio. These are Riverside’s published specifications, not an independent quality assessment. See Riverside’s podcast recording details.

Zencastr: remote recording with an audio-only option
Zencastr describes separate participant tracks and supports several workflows: audio and video recording, audio recording with live video on the call, or audio-only recording. Its FAQ states up to six participants including the host and unlimited recording time, and lists desktop Chrome, Edge, and Brave plus iOS support. This makes it worth considering for audio-first shows or teams that want a choice of recording modes. Check current browser, device, and plan details before scheduling a long session. Read Zencastr’s FAQ and review its recording modes.
StreamYard: live production alongside local recording
StreamYard combines a browser-based live-production studio with local participant recording. Its documentation describes separate local audio and video files for participants and guest links that work in a browser. The help page states that free local recording is limited to two hours per month, while paid plans have unlimited local recording. Keep that allowance distinct from any live-stream recording allowance, and confirm local recording is enabled for your intended mode. See StreamYard’s local recording details and review its studio features.

Zoom: a familiar fallback for separate participant audio
Zoom’s desktop app supports local computer recording and a setting to create a separate audio file for each participant. Enable the relevant setting before the interview. The cited guidance establishes separate audio files; it does not establish separate local video files for each participant, so verify that distinction if your edit needs individual video. Follow Zoom’s instructions for separate audio files.
Pick by the show you are making

Prepare guests for a clean recording
Good capture starts with the room and microphone, not a postproduction fix. Zencastr recommends headphones to reduce echo and audio bleed. StreamYard’s setup guide recommends a microphone for each speaker and suggests a USB microphone when available; these are setup suggestions, not comparative gear tests.

The editor receives one mixed file instead of separate tracks
Check whether separate-track recording was enabled and whether the selected mode creates separate files for the media you need. In Zoom, use the desktop app’s local recording setting for a separate audio file per participant; do not assume this produces separate video files.

A participant’s local file is missing or incomplete
Local capture does not eliminate upload risk. Give uploads time to complete, check the service’s session and file status, and confirm the guest had a usable connection for upload. If the recording is important, establish a backup plan before the session rather than assuming software can recover a file that never uploaded.
Echo or audio bleed makes the conversation hard to edit
Ask participants to wear headphones, check microphone selection, and reduce nearby speakers or competing audio. These steps address common causes identified in the setup guidance; they cannot guarantee that poor source audio can be repaired afterward.
