Choose OBS if you want to send a scheduled LinkedIn Live event through a custom RTMP/RTMPS encoder; choose Restream if you want LinkedIn’s partner workflow for connecting an existing event in Restream Studio. Neither route removes LinkedIn’s eligibility and scheduling requirements. LinkedIn ended spontaneous live broadcasting on June 22, 2026, so schedule an event before setting up either tool.
What OBS and Restream do for LinkedIn Live
LinkedIn Live requires a streaming tool; it does not provide a direct in-LinkedIn camera broadcast workflow. Eligible members and Pages can broadcast to a profile, Page, or Event. LinkedIn names OBS as an example of an encoder for advanced broadcasters and professional producers using a custom stream. It lists Restream among its preferred partners and documents a workflow for connecting an existing scheduled LinkedIn event in Restream Studio.

That distinction is the useful one: OBS is the encoder route, while Restream uses a LinkedIn account connection and event-selection workflow. The official guidance establishes that both workflows are supported; it does not establish that one has better picture quality, latency, or reliability.

OBS vs Restream at a glance
| Decision | OBS custom stream | Restream partner workflow |
|---|---|---|
| How it connects | Paste the event’s LinkedIn Stream URL and Stream Key into OBS. | Connect the LinkedIn account in Restream Studio and select an existing scheduled event. |
| Best fit | Broadcasters comfortable configuring an encoder and managing the event’s ingest details. | Broadcasters who prefer linking an account and choosing the event within a partner studio. |
| Event requirement | Schedule the event, then use its event-specific ingest details in Live Studio. | Schedule an event first; the Restream workflow connects that existing event. |
| Feature certainty | LinkedIn says feature availability varies by the tool selected; verify any feature you need. | LinkedIn identifies Restream as a preferred partner, but check Restream’s current documentation for exact feature behavior. |
| Simulcasting | LinkedIn says some third-party tools can stream to LinkedIn and another platform; verify the current OBS setup and destinations. | LinkedIn says some third-party tools support simulcasting but does not identify them in its FAQ; verify Restream’s current support and plan terms. |
Before choosing either workflow
Confirm eligibility and permissions
Access is required to broadcast. LinkedIn’s custom-stream guidance directs broadcasters to check the Page or Profile’s access criteria. Confirm that you have the necessary Page or event permissions before configuring an encoder or linking an account.

Schedule the LinkedIn event
As of June 22, 2026, spontaneous live broadcasting is no longer available. LinkedIn’s overview says an event can still be scheduled minutes before going live for a short-notice broadcast. Make the event first, then prepare the custom stream or connect the event in Restream.
Check tool-specific features
Do not assume a feature is available just because it exists in another streaming tool. LinkedIn says feature availability varies by tool. If captions, simulcasting, or another capability is important, confirm support for the exact tool, destination, and current plan before the event.

Set up LinkedIn Live with OBS
- Schedule a LinkedIn Live event. Confirm the event destination—profile, Page, or Event—and make sure the account is eligible to broadcast.
- Open LinkedIn Live Studio and find the event’s ingest details. In the event’s Manage streams area, retrieve the Stream URL and Stream Key. Treat the key as private; use the details for the event you are preparing.
- Enter the details in OBS. Configure OBS to use LinkedIn’s RTMP or RTMPS ingest, using the Stream URL and Stream Key from Live Studio. LinkedIn names OBS as an example custom-stream encoder.
- Use LinkedIn’s encoder guidance for settings. The supplied LinkedIn guidance in this article does not specify bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval values, so do not rely on a generic preset as though it were a LinkedIn requirement. If a stream will not process, LinkedIn recommends trying the Baseline video profile rather than High or Main because higher profiles can introduce B-frames and timestamp problems.
- Start the encoder and check the LinkedIn preview. Confirm that Live Studio receives the feed before selecting LinkedIn’s Go live control. The encoder sending video does not itself mean the audience broadcast has started.
- Go live from LinkedIn Live Studio. When the preview is ready and the event is in the correct state, click LinkedIn’s Go live control.
Allow for the custom-stream preview window
LinkedIn’s documented custom-stream workflow says verified Pages may prepare up to two hours before the event and preview for up to two hours. Unverified Profiles and Pages may prepare one hour beforehand and have a 10-minute preview. These are workflow-specific windows and may change; check Live Studio for the event’s available controls.

Connect Restream to a scheduled LinkedIn event
- Create or open a stream in Restream Studio.
- Enable the LinkedIn Page or profile as a destination and connect the LinkedIn account if prompted.
- Connect an existing LinkedIn event. Select the scheduled event in Restream Studio and save the selection.
- Start the broadcast when ready. LinkedIn recommends not initiating the Restream workflow more than 10 minutes before the event. Use the event’s preview and go-live controls as presented in the current interfaces.
Restream’s interface can change. If a control has moved, consult its current product documentation rather than assuming the LinkedIn event connection has been removed.

Which should you choose?
- Choose OBS when you want the custom encoder workflow and are comfortable managing a URL, key, encoder settings, and LinkedIn’s separate go-live control.
- Choose Restream when you prefer LinkedIn’s documented preferred-partner path of linking an account and selecting an existing scheduled event in a studio.
- Choose neither until you verify details if a required feature, destination combination, caption option, or plan capability has not been confirmed in the current tool documentation.
LinkedIn says one LinkedIn destination can be selected per stream. Some third-party tools may also send a stream to another platform, but support depends on the tool. Do not treat LinkedIn’s general statement as confirmation that a particular OBS or Restream configuration supports the destinations you need.
Preview, monitor, and troubleshoot
Before the event
- Check eligibility, Page or Profile permissions, and the event’s destination.
- Test the encoder or partner workflow early enough to resolve access, ingest, and configuration problems within the event’s allowed preview window.
- Plan to monitor the event from a separate device or browser. LinkedIn recommends dedicating at least one person to moderation.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | What to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Live Studio does not receive the OBS feed | Eligibility, Page/Profile permissions, network ports, and the encoder configuration. | Confirm the event’s URL and key in Live Studio and check LinkedIn’s encoder troubleshooting guidance. |
| The stream reaches LinkedIn but will not process | Video profile and potential B-frame or timestamp issues. | Try the Baseline video profile instead of High or Main, as LinkedIn recommends. |
| The event is unavailable in the selected workflow | Whether the event was scheduled and whether the correct LinkedIn account and destination are connected. | Schedule or open the intended event, verify permissions, then select that existing event in Restream or retrieve its ingest details in Live Studio. |
| A feature is missing or behaves differently than expected | Whether the selected tool supports that feature for LinkedIn and for the current account or plan. | Check current documentation for both LinkedIn and the tool; feature availability varies. |
| Viewers cannot be monitored while producing | Whether a separate device or browser is available for the event. | Use a second device or browser to watch the stream and comments, with a moderator assigned if possible. |
Duration, captions, and recordings
LinkedIn’s FAQ says a stream may last up to four hours and recommends at least 10 minutes to gain an audience. A separate older content guideline advises at least 15 minutes; treat those as differing recommendations, not a technical minimum. LinkedIn currently says real-time automatically generated captions are supported for livestreams created through API partners with English audio; confirm that the chosen tool and language qualify. Organizers can download the event recording after it ends.

Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is not an OBS or Restream alternative for LinkedIn Live: it streams uploaded videos to YouTube only, not LinkedIn, and it does not broadcast from a camera. If your separate goal is keeping a YouTube channel live with prerecorded video, StreamNeo runs that stream from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and gives the first day free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
