OBS Studio is the best no-cost starting point if you want to run a continuous YouTube stream from a low-cost PC and are willing to configure and test it. It is flexible, but it cannot guarantee that a particular computer, internet connection or power supply will stay live around the clock. Start with a simple scene, test at a modest output such as 720p30, and monitor YouTube’s stream health before relying on it for a long broadcast.
If you would rather not leave a computer running at home, StreamNeo is the cloud alternative: upload prerecorded video, add your YouTube stream key and go live.

Which software should you choose?
OBS Studio for a no-cost local-PC setup
YouTube lists OBS among its free, open-source encoder software. It is a sensible first choice when the PC is available, you want control over the broadcast and you can spend time testing the setup. OBS’s system requirements caution that compatibility does not guarantee that a computer can stream or record successfully; workload varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. Keep the first scene simple and use OBS’s Auto Configuration Wizard as a starting point, not as proof that the PC is ready for a 24/7 stream. YouTube’s encoder directory and OBS’s system requirements describe the software and its limits.

Other options when OBS is not the right fit
YouTube also lists other software encoders, cloud services and hardware encoders. A listing does not establish that another encoder is faster, cheaper or more reliable on a low-cost PC in India. Check current availability, price, supported continuous-stream format and any content limits before committing. A cloud service can remove the need to encode continuously on your local PC; a hardware encoder can separate encoding from the computer, but no low-cost or India-specific price comparison is established here.

| Option | Best suited to | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio | No-charge local streaming with configurable scenes and settings | Uses the local PC and connection continuously; actual performance depends on settings and hardware. |
| Other software encoders | A particular interface or production workflow | Compare current features and cost; YouTube’s directory alone does not prove they suit a low-cost PC better. |
| Cloud continuous-stream service | Keeping a prerecorded stream running without encoding on the home PC | Verify provider availability, price, content limits, network requirements and support for your intended stream. |
| Hardware encoder | Separating encoding from a PC when suitable equipment and budget are already available | Hardware and India-specific cost suitability are not established by the encoder listing. |
Check YouTube eligibility before setup
Confirm the channel is allowed to go live before spending time configuring a long-running broadcast. YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Its encoder guidance explains that an encoder converts video to a digital format for YouTube. Review YouTube’s current encoder and live-streaming guidance for account requirements and setup details.
Set a conservative video and connection baseline
Choose resolution and bitrate together
For a low-cost PC, test at 720p and 30 fps before attempting a higher output. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance lists 720p30 at 8 Mbps recommended and 3 Mbps minimum. If the PC or upload connection cannot sustain it, lower the output and test again. The figures are YouTube platform recommendations, not a promise about the capacity of an Indian broadband or mobile connection. A brief speed test does not establish that an upload rate will hold for a continuous broadcast.

| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
Codec changes the recommendation: at 720p30, YouTube lists 6 Mbps recommended and 2 Mbps minimum for AV1 or H.265, rather than the H.264 figures above. At 480p30, it lists 3 Mbps recommended and 0.3 Mbps minimum for AV1 or H.265. Use the row for the codec actually selected; do not confuse a minimum with the recommended bitrate. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions, checked 2026-10-03.
Use YouTube’s encoder settings as the baseline
- Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS is supported; YouTube recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1.
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Audio: AAC or MP3.
In OBS, connect the channel using the stream key provided in YouTube’s live control room, and keep that key private. Menu labels can change between software versions, so use the current YouTube and OBS setup screens rather than relying on an old screenshot. YouTube recommends testing with audio and motion similar to the real broadcast and checking stream health and messages.

Prepare OBS for a long test
- Confirm live access. Enable live streaming on the YouTube channel and wait for activation if this is the first time; YouTube says that can take up to 24 hours.
- Run the OBS Auto Configuration Wizard. Use its result as an initial configuration, then set a modest target such as 720p30 and a bitrate the connection can sustain.
- Build a simple scene. Add only the sources the broadcast needs. Extra animated or complex scenes can increase the load; OBS says CPU requirements vary with scene complexity, encoder, resolution and frame rate.
- Configure the encoder and key. Choose a supported protocol and codec, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, AAC or MP3 audio, and enter the YouTube stream key in OBS.
- Test the actual workload. Stream the real scene with representative sound and movement at the intended resolution and bitrate. Check OBS output and YouTube’s stream-health messages throughout the test.
- Only then plan a longer broadcast. A test can reveal problems but cannot guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 operation; the PC, network and power must remain available.
Keep the connection and PC from becoming bottlenecks
Prefer wired Ethernet where practical
OBS notes that Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming and recommends a wired connection. Ethernet can remove one source of wireless variability, but it cannot fix weak service, ISP congestion or inadequate sustained upload capacity. Test the actual route and connection you intend to use.
Respond to dropped frames
OBS says dropped frames indicate an unstable connection or a connection unable to keep up with the configured bitrate; enough dropped frames can disconnect a stream. Its troubleshooting guidance suggests lowering bitrate to match stable upload and gives 75% of total upload speed as a starting heuristic. That is not a universal guarantee for every provider or a 24/7 connection. Reduce bitrate, retest, and if needed lower resolution or frame rate. If network performance still varies, investigate the connection with the ISP rather than assuming an encoder change will fix it.

Account for the whole always-on system
A local stream depends on the computer, encoder, internet connection and power staying operational. The available documentation does not establish a low-cost PC specification or an Indian home connection that guarantees a particular uptime duration. For continuous use, consider how the machine will handle heat, updates, restarts, power interruptions and network failures, and test those conditions before depending on the stream.

Troubleshoot before committing to continuous streaming
| Symptom | Likely area to check | First response |
|---|---|---|
| Dropped frames or stream disconnects | Upload instability or bitrate beyond what the connection can sustain | Lower bitrate, test again, try Ethernet, and check YouTube stream health. |
| PC struggles while streaming | Encoder workload, resolution, frame rate or scene complexity | Simplify the scene and lower resolution or frame rate; retest the actual broadcast. |
| First broadcast cannot start | Live streaming may not yet be enabled for the channel | Check channel eligibility and allow for YouTube’s stated activation period of up to 24 hours on first enablement. |
| Picture or sound differs from the test | Test did not match real motion, audio or sources | Repeat the test with representative content and check the encoder output and YouTube messages. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded YouTube stream, StreamNeo avoids keeping a home computer and connection running as the encoder. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud. Nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. YouTube only; it plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.
