For smooth, responsive PC sports games, prioritize consistent frame delivery, then reduce input-to-display delay without creating tearing you dislike. There is no universal best preset: the right settings depend on the game, hardware, monitor refresh rate, and your preference for latency versus image stability.
What “smooth” and “responsive” mean
Smoothness is about consistent frame delivery: evenly paced frames tend to look steadier than a high but erratic FPS counter. Responsiveness is the delay between an input and its appearance on screen. Average FPS alone cannot tell you whether either feels good. Frame-time behavior and the actual feel of controls matter too.

Start with a measurable target: note your display’s resolution and refresh rate, then check performance during demanding gameplay—not only in menus or quiet scenes. Aim for stable delivery at a rate your PC can sustain. If the frame rate swings, test a cap and compare how play feels; the right cap depends on your game, hardware, and display, so there is no universal value.
Reduce stutter by changing demanding graphics settings
If performance is uneven or below your target, lower visual demands in a controlled order. Begin with a lower preset, then adjust individual options so you can see which changes help and how much image quality they cost.
#1 Best Overall

- Lower the overall graphics preset and check a demanding gameplay scene again.
- If needed, reduce or disable demanding antialiasing or ambient occlusion.
- Lower render scale or resolution if performance still falls short. These changes can make the image less sharp.
- Change one option at a time, then compare frame-time behavior and image quality before making another change.
AMD’s Game Advisor can show frame-time graphs, average FPS, and 95th-percentile frame processing time, and may recommend adjustments such as a lower preset, render scale, or resolution. Its recommendations must be applied manually; available options and support vary by game, hardware, API, and display mode. AMD’s Game Advisor documentation describes the monitoring and recommendation features.
Set Windows and the display up correctly
Use the display’s maximum supported refresh rate
Check the operating system’s display settings and select the monitor’s highest supported refresh rate. NVIDIA notes that higher refresh rates reduce scanout latency. The benefit depends on the display and whether the game can deliver frames at a useful, consistent rate. See NVIDIA’s system-latency guide.

Try Windows 11 windowed optimizations where compatible
Windows 11’s Optimizations for windowed games applies to compatible DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 games running windowed or borderless. It moves supported games to flip-model presentation, which can reduce frame latency and enable features such as variable refresh rate (VRR) on supported displays. It does not apply to every game or mode. Microsoft also documents choosing a high-performance GPU for an individual game on systems with more than one GPU. Details and steps are in Microsoft’s Windows 11 guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChoose latency features only when your game and hardware support them
NVIDIA Reflex and driver Low Latency Mode
If the game offers NVIDIA Reflex and your system supports it, NVIDIA recommends enabling it. Reflex is integrated by game developers and synchronizes work across the rendering pipeline to reduce system latency. If Reflex is not available, NVIDIA’s latency guide describes driver Ultra Low Latency Mode as an alternative. These are conditional options, not universal switches; check the game’s settings and the relevant NVIDIA guidance before relying on them.

- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
AMD Radeon Anti-Lag
AMD Radeon Anti-Lag dynamically adjusts frame timing to reduce input-to-display latency on supported systems and games. Its availability depends on the GPU, software, and game. AMD also documents interactions and incompatibilities among Radeon features, so avoid enabling overlapping options blindly; consult AMD’s Radeon feature guidance for compatibility details.

V-Sync can remove screen tearing, but it involves a latency tradeoff. Variable refresh rate can reduce tearing by matching display refresh to frame delivery when supported, though behavior depends on the monitor, connection, game mode, and system configuration.

NVIDIA describes using VRR with V-Sync and Reflex—or Ultra Low Latency Mode when Reflex is absent—as a way to avoid tearing while keeping latency low in the conditions covered by its guide. That combination has slightly higher latency than uncapped Reflex, according to NVIDIA. Treat this as a configuration option to compare, not a guarantee for every display or game. Fullscreen and borderless behavior can also vary; on Windows 11, compatible windowed games may benefit from the optimizations described above.

A practical tuning loop
- Record your monitor’s resolution and refresh rate, and confirm the operating system is set to the maximum supported refresh rate.
- Choose a demanding gameplay situation and check whether frame delivery stays consistent.
- If it does not, lower the graphics preset, then tune demanding effects, render scale, or resolution one at a time.
- Test a frame cap if performance swings, comparing consistency and control feel rather than assuming a particular cap is best.
- Enable a supported game-level latency feature such as Reflex or Radeon Anti-Lag; use vendor-specific driver alternatives only where applicable.
- Compare V-Sync, VRR, and presentation modes according to whether tearing, latency, or compatibility is your priority.
- Recheck the same gameplay situation after each meaningful change. Use frame-time graphs or the game’s performance tools when available, and keep settings that improve consistency without an unacceptable image-quality loss.
