For most players, start with the current game build and its Normal launch mode. If Hearth and Hamlet crashes or shows graphical glitches, try Vulkan; the developer recommends it for those problems, not as a guaranteed frame-rate boost. There is no published, controlled comparison establishing a best graphics preset or resolution, so treat performance tweaks beyond the developer’s advice as experiments.
Start with the current build and Normal mode
Install available updates before changing settings. Phorust Studios said Patch 1.0.07, released September 5, 2026, reduced the game’s VRAM use by about 1.1 GB to improve stability, especially on lower-spec hardware. That is a developer-reported change, not a promise of a particular frame rate on every PC. Read the developer’s Steam community posts.

A third-party settings guide recommends Normal as the expected first-launch choice for most systems. The official developer guidance reviewed here does not establish a universally best renderer, but it does specifically recommend Vulkan when crashes or graphical glitches occur. The guide’s launch-mode advice is secondary guidance, not an official compatibility guarantee.
Which launch option should you choose?
| Option | When to try it | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Use it as the starting point if the game launches and runs without problems. | A third-party guide calls it the expected choice for most systems; the official posts reviewed do not compare its performance with other renderers. |
| Vulkan | Try it if the game crashes or has graphical glitches. | The developer’s pinned Steam notice says Vulkan resolves or greatly improves stability in 95% of cases. This is the developer’s reported figure, not an independently verified test or an FPS measurement. |
| DirectX 12 | There is no specific reason in the reviewed evidence to prefer it for performance or stability. | The third-party guide mentions it among launch options, but the developer posts reviewed do not single it out. |
Change one launch option at a time so you can tell whether the issue changes. If Vulkan does not help, return to Normal and check for game updates before trying unrelated tweaks.

Check RAM and VRAM expectations
In Patch 1.0.06 on August 28, 2026, the developer raised recommended system RAM from 8 GB to 16 GB. The developer also said, “8GB can still work flawlessly, but leaves little room for multitasking.” Treat 16 GB as the updated recommendation, not a minimum requirement: the stated distinction is that 8 GB may work with less room for other apps. The patch notes are on the developer’s Steam community page.
The later Patch 1.0.07 VRAM reduction of about 1.1 GB is intended to improve stability; it does not establish that every player needs a GPU upgrade. The sources reviewed do not provide a tested graphics-quality preset, a recommended resolution for a particular frame rate, or evidence for a general-purpose hardware upgrade.
Should you uncap the frame rate?
A third-party guide reports a 60 FPS cap and suggests the launch argument --max-fps 0 to remove it on a high-refresh display. The official developer posts reviewed here do not confirm either the cap or the argument, and the guide does not verify its result across GPUs. Consider it an optional experiment rather than a guaranteed setting.

- Keep the default cap if you mainly leave the game idle or do not have a specific reason to seek a higher frame rate.
- If you want to test the guide’s suggestion, add
--max-fps 0through the game’s Steam launch options, then check whether your current build recognizes it and behaves as expected. - If the game becomes unstable or the argument has no effect, remove it and return to the default launch configuration.
The argument and its claimed effect come from the third-party guide, not confirmed official documentation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If performance is still poor
- Crashes or graphical glitches: try Vulkan, following the developer’s troubleshooting advice.
- Limited memory while multitasking: close unnecessary apps and compare the system’s RAM with the developer’s 16 GB recommendation. The developer says 8 GB can still work, but offers less multitasking headroom.
- Trying visual changes: lowering resolution or graphics quality can be a general PC troubleshooting experiment, but no game-specific controlled tests in the sources establish which setting is best or how much performance it gains.
- Considering a GPU purchase: the available evidence does not support recommending a new GPU to all players. First check the current Steam system-requirements panel for the game’s stated hardware floor; the independent guide’s requirements should not be treated as a substitute for that live listing.
For the current store listing, see Hearth and Hamlet on Steam. The game released on Steam on August 19, 2026, and settings or requirements may change with later updates.
