Compare those tasks alongside mop design, floor clearance, carpet behavior, and dock size rather than treating one feature or suction number as a universal winner.
What “self-cleaning” means on a robot vacuum
The phrase is not a standardized feature. A dock may automate one maintenance task or several, and a robot vacuum and mop combo can still leave you with regular work.

- Dust emptying: the dock transfers debris from the robot’s bin into a larger bag or container. This reduces how often you empty the robot, but does not eliminate bag replacement.
- Mop washing: the dock rinses pads or a roller after cleaning. Some models also wash the dock’s mop-cleaning area.
- Mop drying: warm air helps dry mop components after washing. Drying temperature and method vary.
- Water and detergent handling: some docks refill the robot’s clean-water tank, manage dirty water, or dispense detergent. Others require more manual attention.
- Mop lifting or removal: a robot may lift mop components over carpet or leave them at the dock. These are different strategies, and their usefulness depends on the home’s mix of floors.
Before buying, check the exact model and dock configuration sold in your country. Product names, bundles, and included functions can differ by region.

Compare the cleaning systems, not just the headline claims
Different mop mechanisms suit different preferences, but the available specifications do not establish that one type cleans better in every home.

Spinning mop pads
Two rotating pads scrub the floor as the robot moves. Dreame lists dual spinning discs on the X50 Ultra Complete in TechRadar’s review, while Roborock’s Singapore lineup describes dual spinning mops on the Saros 20. Verify which model and dock are available locally before relying on those details.
Sonic vibrating pad
The Roborock Singapore lineup describes the Saros 20 Sonic as using a vibrating mop at 4,000 vibrations per minute, with a stated 1.75× boosted mopping pressure. Those are manufacturer specifications, not evidence of superior results against the spinning-pad or roller designs.
Continuously rinsed roller
Roborock describes the Saros 20 Flow Complete as using a 270 mm roller that is rinsed as it turns, extends to the edge, and lifts up to 15 mm for carpet. The company lists 63°C drying for this variant. These are regional manufacturer details; confirm the local SKU and its included dock.

| Model | What the cited source reports | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Dreame X50 Ultra | Dreame’s US lineup lists up to 100 days of auto-emptying, a 0.85-gallon dust bag, 176°F mop self-cleaning, and a water hookup kit for automatic refill and drain. TechRadar lists 20,000 Pa maximum suction, dual spinning discs, self-emptying, a 3.2 L dock bin, and 6 cm threshold clearance for the X50 Ultra Complete. | The manufacturer lineup and independent review refer to different bundle names or configurations. Check the exact local package before comparing features. |
| Roborock Saros 20 | Roborock Singapore lists 36,000 Pa suction, a 7.98 cm robot height, dual spinning mops, and a dock that empties dust, refills water, dispenses detergent, washes mops at up to 100°C, dries them with 55°C warm air, and automatically removes the mops. | The compact listed height may help with low furniture, but the specifications are for Roborock’s Singapore lineup and may not match another market’s model. |
| Roborock Saros 20 Sonic | Roborock Singapore lists a 7.98 cm height and a sonic mop operating at 4,000 vibrations per minute with 1.75× boosted mopping pressure. | Consider it if you prefer a vibrating-pad approach; the listed figures do not prove it cleans better than other mop mechanisms. |
| Roborock Saros 20 Flow Complete | Roborock Singapore lists a 270 mm roller mop, up-to-15 mm carpet lift, edge extension, 36,000 Pa suction, 8.98 cm height, and 63°C drying. | The roller and carpet-lift design may appeal to hard-floor homes, but verify the local variant and account for its listed height. |
| Roborock Saros Z70 | Roborock US lists 22,000 Pa suction, 80°C hot-water mop washing, dock self-cleaning, and automatic mop removal. It also claims a 99.99% bacteria-removal rate; the cited product-page excerpt does not show test conditions. | Treat sanitation as a manufacturer claim, not a general or independently verified result. Look for the full test method before giving the percentage weight in a decision. |
| Ecovacs Deebot T30S Combo | TechRadar reports 11,000 Pa, auto-emptying, mop-pad washing and drying, and a bundled handheld vacuum. Its reviewer found the mopping very good but not as good as some competitors and described the base as bulky. | The bundle and reviewer observations illustrate that extra cleaning equipment can come with a larger dock; the primary comparison here is still the robot’s own maintenance system. |
Pa suction ratings are manufacturer-reported specifications, not a standardized cross-brand performance test. A higher published number alone cannot tell you which robot will pick up more dirt on your floors.
Match the robot to your floors and layout
Check furniture clearance and thresholds
Measure the lowest clearance under furniture the robot needs to reach, then compare it with the robot’s height—not the dock’s height. Also check thresholds and transitions between rooms. TechRadar’s X50 Ultra Complete comparison lists 6 cm threshold clearance, but do not assume another configuration has the same capability.
Think about carpets, rugs, and hard floors
For a mostly hard-floor home, focus on the mop mechanism, edge coverage, and how the dock washes and dries it. If you have rugs or carpet, check whether the robot lifts or removes its mop, and consider independent tests of the exact model on your carpet types. Tom’s Guide reports its tested QV 35S picked up an average 84% of debris across three shallow-rug tests in its 2026 review; that is a result for that model and test setup, not a category-wide benchmark. The same review says the QV 35S was weaker on thick carpets and heavy pet hair than pet-focused products.
Account for tasks a robot cannot cover
A robot vacuum does not clean stairs, and it is not a substitute for an upright or handheld vacuum on upholstery. TechRadar notes these limitations in its comparison. If those jobs matter, plan for a separate tool rather than expecting a more automated dock to solve them.

Make room for the dock
Measure the dock’s floor footprint and allow practical access for removing bags, filling or emptying tanks, and cleaning the wash area. TechRadar describes the Deebot T30S Combo base as bulky, illustrating why dock size matters even when its automated features are appealing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose by the maintenance you want to avoid
- If dust-bin emptying is the main nuisance: prioritize a clearly specified auto-emptying dock and check its bag capacity and replacement requirements. Treat any “up to” hands-free interval as a manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee for every household.
- If you mop frequently: look for mop washing and drying, then check whether the dock also handles clean water, dirty water, detergent, and its own wash area.
- If your home mixes rugs and hard floors: check the robot’s carpet response—mop lift, mop removal, or another documented method—and look for independent tests on comparable surfaces.
- If low furniture is a priority: compare the robot’s published height with your measured clearance. A dock can automate more tasks without making the robot itself shorter.
- If you have pets or thick carpet: give more weight to model-specific debris and hair tests than to a suction rating alone. Robot vacuums also leave stairs and upholstery to other cleaning tools.
- Before ordering: confirm that the model name, dock functions, included accessories, replacement supplies, and any water hookup kit match the package sold in your market.
Manufacturer claims versus independent tests
Specifications help identify what a product is designed to do, but they should not be mistaken for independent comparative results. Dreame’s US page says listed models can provide up to 100 days of auto-emptying and lists a 0.85-gallon bag and 176°F mop self-cleaning for the X50 Ultra. Roborock Singapore lists up to 100°C mop washing for the Saros 20 dock and notes standard atmospheric pressure. These figures describe vendor claims for specific products and configurations.
Likewise, Roborock US’s 99.99% bacteria-removal claim for the Saros Z70 should not be generalized: the cited excerpt does not include the conditions or test protocol. For real-world cleaning, independent reviews offer observations and test results, but their methods and tested models vary. Use them to answer specific questions—such as performance on rugs or pet hair—rather than treating different outlets’ scores as directly interchangeable.
Plan for ongoing upkeep
Automation shifts maintenance; it does not remove it. Depending on the robot and dock, supplies can include dust bags, filters, brushes, mop pads, and cleaning solution. A water hookup kit can also add installation and compatibility considerations. Check the manufacturer’s current replacement guidance for the exact model and dock before buying consumables or assuming one accessory fits another version. The cited sources do not establish comparable long-term failure rates or repair costs, so they cannot support a reliability or lifetime-cost ranking.
