Samsung did not announce a base Galaxy Tab S12. Its September 30, 2026 launch named only the Galaxy Tab S12+ and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra, and Samsung’s US lineup currently shows those two models rather than a base S12. If you wanted a smaller premium Samsung tablet, the Galaxy Tab S11 is the closest fit; the Galaxy Tab S10 FE is a more affordable-tier choice for everyday notes and study, while the older Galaxy Tab S10+ suits buyers who want a larger premium screen.
Which Galaxy Tab should you get instead?

Samsung’s September 30, 2026 announcement specifies 12.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays for the S12+ and 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X for the S12 Ultra. Those are larger tablets, not a base-model substitute. Samsung lists an 11,600 mAh battery and 45W charging for the Ultra, and a 10,600 mAh battery and 45W charging for the S12+; these are manufacturer specifications. Samsung also claims up to 23 hours of video playback for the Ultra and up to 21 hours for the S12+, not independent test results. Samsung’s S12 announcement identifies the two models and says an S Pen is bundled with each.

Best compact premium alternative: Galaxy Tab S11
Choose the Galaxy Tab S11 if you wanted a smaller, premium Samsung tablet with a high-end screen and pen support. TechRadar describes an 11-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, 12GB of base RAM, and an included S Pen. Samsung’s US tablet lineup includes the S11 alongside the S12 models. That makes it the closest choice here for a reader who wants the compact flagship-style experience rather than the larger S12+ or Ultra. Its reviewed starting price was premium, so compare the current offer in your country before buying.

Best lower-tier option for studying: Galaxy Tab S10 FE
The Galaxy Tab S10 FE is worth considering for handwritten notes, sketching, and ordinary productivity if you do not need flagship-level performance or an AMOLED screen. TechRadar lists a 10.9-inch LCD, Exynos 1580, and included S Pen. The LCD and lower performance tier are meaningful compromises compared with the premium S11, so it is not a like-for-like replacement for someone choosing the S12 family for its top-end display or performance.
TechRadar reported launch/review-context prices of US$549.99, £539, and AU$849 for the Wi-Fi model, and US$649.99, £639, and AU$1,049 for the 5G model, in the respective markets. Those are historical launch figures, not current offers. Check whether the configuration sold in your region includes the storage, connectivity, and pen you need. Best larger-screen alternative: Galaxy Tab S10+
If a compact tablet is not the priority, Samsung’s US comparison listing shows the Galaxy Tab S10+ with a 12.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and an IP68 rating. It is an older model, so do not assume it is still readily available or a better deal: check local stock and compare its current price with newer models. Samsung’s listing does not establish a directly comparable processor, memory configuration, or S Pen inclusion in the cited material, so verify those details for the exact regional model before purchase. See Samsung US’s tablet comparison.

How to choose between them
- Pick the S11 for a compact premium Samsung tablet, AMOLED display, and included S Pen.
- Pick the S10 FE if notes, sketching, and everyday tasks matter more than flagship performance and an AMOLED panel.
- Consider the S10+ if you want a larger premium display and can find suitable local stock at a sensible price.
- Compare the exact configuration: screen and panel type, storage and RAM, Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity, current local price and stock, pen inclusion, and any included accessories.
Configuration and availability can vary by country. Samsung’s S12 announcement says the S Pen is bundled with the S12 models, but that does not establish accessory inclusion for every older tablet or regional package. Buy a case, keyboard cover, or screen protector only after checking compatibility with the exact tablet model; S12 accessories should not be assumed to fit an S11 or S10.
